mine is stuck in 4 n thelight is on on the switch and that light has been going off from time to time any ideas on what to do?or how to get it into 2 all wheel again
Mine is stuck in 4lo. The motor has been glitchy and it finally locked down. Switch wont work since the shifting motor has a mind of it's own. What can I do to get it back to 2wd?
Well really it seems like the motor needs to be replaced, but I'm guessing if you remove the motor, you might be able to switch it manually by turning the gears. But I'm not really sure. I haven't messed with the 4wd motors
If it did that because you opened the door.... my guess would be that there's a short in the wiring harness somewhere. Which that could be a pain to find
Haha ya I'd look and see if that happens often or just a flook thing.... if it seems to happen regularly. I'd look for the wiring for your door switch. The wiring going to your interior lights. Something like that maybe. Wiring is a nightmare sometimes.
@@Simpsons.R.S it’s put the truck out of service. Because it’s almost getting stuck in 4L I was going to dig into it when I get home next week. I didn’t notice it at first until I put the truck in drive and it was in 4L. But after jacking with the switch and getting it home it been there for a month
Ohhhh ok... well I'd definitely look into the actuator then for sure. They can jam up. There's not much to them. Except they are kinda expensive...... what I would do... I'd get a voltmeter and start seeing if there's any voltage change when you switch from 2wd, 4wd, 4wdL. If the voltage is correct but it's not changing.. I'd say the actuator locked up
Ever figure out this issue anyone !? Our 05 does this sometimes and will stick in whatever you are in. So if your in 4low it will stay in four low and service 4 wd light pops on

I honestly haven't had the time to mess with it, I just keep doing this trick because the weather up here has been so cold I haven't been able to wash underneath my truck and test anything. @@Simpsons.R.S looking forward to it. Right now I have the fuse disconnected. I live in the south we don’t get a lot of winter weather. But they are calling for some tomorrow and Thursday. Thanks for the time
I may be getting a 05 dakota if this problem arises I can make it 4wd all the time by pulling the fuse when it's set in 4 hi correct? Even if the service light isn't on?
For the dakotas. I know for sure. If you leave it in 4wd and pull the fuse... it'll stay in 4wd for you...you definitely don't want it to switch randomly into 4 low haha
pulling the fuse is just to make sure the actuator doesn't work. it can flash all it wants.... it won't actually do anything with the transfer case since the fuse is out
Hi cobra..in my 2005 dakota..I removed the drive shift 4x4..but now I get the light svc 4wd..and sometimes make it a noise..if I pull the fuse..you think the noise could gone....while I get money to fix it...
if the transfer case is making the noise it might continue to do that if something is going on inside of it.... but pulling the fuse shouldnt hurt anything. it should just basically make the actuator motor inoperable.

My 2006 dakota 4.7 4x4 when I go around 55-65 mph tries to enter the 4LO by itself without me moving anything, it does not go in, it just makes the noise, turns on the 4LO light on the dash and turns off immediately. Could be a wiring issue... or the switch itself. But if the actuator IS working correctly... it should be going in.... luckily it's not though because that would cause a lot of damage going down the highway
@@Simpsons.R.S Yes, I will check all the harness, it may be that a ground is not "grounding" correctly. The 4LO does not fit, due to i remove the front drive shaft. Mine does the exact same thing. It sometimes engages while driving then violently kicks back out. I'm now noticing that there's a clicking/ratcheting noise coming from the transfer case at lower speeds. Maybe in one of those situations, it caused damage to the chain.
