WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO CONFESS? the juicier the answer the better! Thank you so much in advance for your forgiveness. We definitely aren't perfect with our hair routine and we hope you learn from our mistakes and found this informative!
I used to have my mom iron my hair…like the ones you use for clothing, because it took less time than me using a flat iron. 😅 With my curly hair, it’s definitely that I never refresh my hair. If it needs to be refreshed, then it goes up in a pony tail. 😆
Like that you have both always been advising “you do you “ and not about strict rules of CGM. My hair has look so much better since I stopped following CGM and just listened to what my hair needs. Love all the purple 💜
It's nice to hear about this stuff from the "perfect" curly youtubers! Makes me feel a lot more human haha. My curlfessions! Lately I've been waiting way too long to wash my hair, and just leaving it in a twisted bun while tangles just get worse and worse. Sometimes I leave my treatments on wayyy past the time... because I hear the timer go off but I want to "finish doing this one thing really quick" until it's double or triple the time recommended... Also sometimes instead of washing or even cowashing, I'll just wet my hair very very well in the shower and scrub at my scalp with nothing on it, then reapply products once my hair doesn't feel like it has product on it anymore. Depression is hard! Sometimes I can't deal with trying to figure out how to keep my scalp happy after shampooing or cowashing and can only handle plain ol' water that time.
> I've been waiting way too long to wash my hair, and just leaving it in a twisted bun while tangles just get worse and worse. ÓヮÒ I’m not alone! I feel so much better, oh my god. My hair takes so much time and effort and no one is even seeing me so I just leave it up for a few days...or weeks. My hair has gotten so matted it stayed in a high ponytail by itself more than once. And y’know what? It’s okay. I’m okay. It’s not ideal, but I don’t need ideal. I do need a hair cut though XD
I think my biggest curlfession is that I don't always put my hair in a protective style when I sleep and sometimes I'm too lazy to apply product at all. My routine is actually quick and easy so I think you should give it a go especially for those tough days. It's very simple, I wash and condition my hair, detangle before rinsing conditioner then I flip my hair upside down (I use a vinegar rinse here and I don't rinse it out because I have hard water but you can skip that) and brush style in 3 horizontal sections, scrunch a couple of times (literally a couple) and plop my hair in a microfiber towel for about 30 mins (basically until it's as dry as a towel can get it) and remove the towel and let it air dry. When it's completely dry, I smooth over a good thick cream to smooth out frizz and give shine and that's about it, sometimes I use oil instead of the cream if I want my hair to be lighter but the oil doesn't last as long. It's very easy to do for me and takes no time compared to other styling methods (doesn't take more than 10 mins of handling in total other than washing/conditioning). The reason I apply the cream after my hair dries is because it dries way faster and I didn't have a diffuser (got one yesterday and haven't tried it yet) and I don't want my hair to stay wet for too long (if I apply the cream on it damp/wet) because it's damaging and weights it down. Since the cream makes the hair slightly damp again, it's good enough for smoothing the frizz. You can also experiment with your favorite products but I usually only use a cream or oil (or a lil bit of oil after the cream especially on the second day) because it's easier and works well for me. Might sound like a lot since I mentioned all the little details but actually doing it isn't much. Hope this helps!
@@jazsinger21 the products I use are all local products so unfortunately, you won't be able to find the exact products but I can tell what each product is and why I use so you can find a similar one. I use a natural shampoo bar made with olive oil and bay/laurel oil. I don't use normal conditioner unless my hair is super dry, I'd use a random hydrating one before my deep conditioner. I rotate a strengthening and hydrating deep conditioner, for the hydrating one I like it to be rich in oils (argan, coconut and Shea butter) and the strengthening one would be rich in proteins and mainly keratin/hydrolyzed keratin to which I often add some hair oil or argan oil to make it conditioning as well since I have low porosity hair that needs more moisture than protein. The vinegar rinse is simply white vinegar as I don't feel a difference compared to using acv and it doesn't smell once the hair is dry. For the cream, I also like it to be super hydrating so ingredients like cetyle alcohol, oils and Shea/cocoa butter are what I prefer plus argan oil and dimethicone (not sure I spelled that correctly) protect the hair from the heat (I live in a hot climate). I'd mainly rely on trial and error with creams rather than ingredients but I also like to analyze the ingredients to know what works for my hair and what doesn't if I'm interested in a new product. The oil I mainly use for my hair is argan oil mixed with a few essential oils that fit my hair goals which is mainly hair growth so I usually add peppermint, rosemary, lavender and blackseed (argan oil is hydrating so I don't feel the need to add hydrating Essential oils).
My confessions: I sleep with wet hair I bought my first deep conditioner & leave-in products 2 weeks ago 🤦🏽♀️ I don't prepoo or co wash I don't own a diffuser
The workout confession is such a mood! I am literally sitting at my desk right now debating whether I want to ruin my hair with a good workout or continue to have a good hair day for today and have it ready for work tomorrow. I always feel like I could never refresh and have my hair look decent so I just try to avoid it completely. Not a good mindset to have because I am putting appearance before my own health.
OMG, finally, someone answered the question that has been haunting me about the bond creme! Do I wash before application??? Now I know - if your hair is really "dirty," a rinse with water before applying!! THANK YOU!!!!
I just want to thank you!!! Not just for the honesty with your hair, but even your sisterly bond, your awareness of the disorders... Which honestly until now, I'm aware that others are like me, just using a physical coping mechanism... You're Fabulous and I'm Lucky to have found your channel!!!❤️❤️❤️
3 curly girl confessions: I never blow dry my hair because I don’t have the time! I scrunch out the crunch when my hair is only 75% dry for volume! I put the oil on my hair when it’s wet and it makes my curls tighter and bouncier! 😬
If I wait til my hair is dry, the oil has little to no moisture to lock in. 😂 My hair is less frizzy and more healthy looking AND feeling when I put the oil on wet hair.
Well, pro tip for your routine. Brush style (I do the upside down 3 horizontal sections thing since it's very quick) and plop in a microfiber towel with NO product for 15-30 mins then remove the towel and let it air dry completely THEN apply the products (I only use cream/oil). It dries WAY faster (2 hours for me instead 6+ when I apply the cream/oil on it while damp/wet) it's less damaging since you don't leave your hair wet for too long.
Hahaha the “I heard you banging on the wall” triggered me!!! I remember banging on the walls to let my family know to stop using water in our house because I was in the shower 🤣🤣🤣 oh the memories and cold showers traumas!!!
Loved this video. Much more "realistic" approach to dealing with curly hair. BTW, I don't trim it more than 3/4 times a year to maintain classic length (over the booty when stretched).
Confession: I, like Amanda, take very hot showers too. *Deep-breath* . . Even in the summer!! 😬 I promise to work on chilling out, lol 😆 P.S. Mel I love the flowers in your hair!!
Mel your confession about playing with your hair...that is ME. And I am sure so many girls do this. I have anxiety and find myself zoning out sometimes and playing with a certain area of the ends of my hair and it is sooo hard to stop. I usually do it when I know wash day is coming and my hair will be up in a bun anyway. It was actually so comforting to know that you do this too and makes me feel not alone. Thanks for sharing...love you guys!
Thanks so much for the shout out for Trichotillomania :) Having people talk about the condition publicly and educating others about it helps us feel so much more included!
I must confess that I love to wash my hair so I wash 2-3 days a week even if I don't have anywhere to go. I also sometimes wear my bonnet for a while after I get up but mostly I wear my hair up most of the time. Like Mel, I play with my hair. I have been doing it since I was a small child. I twist my hair around my fingers, pull small sections through my fingers and sometimes pull strands completely out.
Thank you so much for this video. As someone who doesn't have any friends with curly hair, I feel super isolated when there are days that I can't bring myself to take off my bonnet or days that I can't even get myself up to shower, let alone wash and style my hair. Knowing that even Mel and Amanda have those days makes me feel so much better ❤
For the workout one: if you workout at home, use a fan! I point one at my head while I'm on the treadmill and turn as needed. Yeah, you get some frizz, but frizz > a sweaty mess (and I sweat A LOT). You could try brining a handheld fan to the gym, but I don't recommend while COVID is still here 😅
Love it soooo much when you took your hair out of the bun, Mell!! I felt that look in my soul! (as I sit here with a day 7 bun) My bad habit is twirling my hair…but I’m accepting it bc your channel has taught me so many good ways to help my hair.💟🕉
Same! I had to retrain myself to not touch my hair all the time once I started embracing my natural curls, but I definitely still find myself twirling pieces 😅
@@anabella1727 I’ve done it since childhood too. I’m glad I’m not alone in this! I try not to do it in front of people😂 but when I get home…let the twirling begin! I feel like it’s ok. I’m doing so many more things right with my hair (thanks to Mell). Maybe it negates the twirling a bit.
I love that you guys don't embrace CGM🥰 I personally think it leads a lot of people away from potentially great products for their hair. I'm a total advocate for knowing ingredients, but the demonization of silicone especially drives me nuts! Personally, i have no issue incorporating silicone in my routine (not overboard though), but my hair can't deal with waxy products like beeswax & paraffin, or heavy emollients like butters, lanolin & mineral oil. It seems to stick. And those with fragile hair can really benefit from using a product containing silicone for detangling or for heat protection. As long as you aren't using products such as cheap conditioners that * replace * hydrating & moisturizing ingredients with silicones, & you don't cowash only, you could at least TRY it out & see how it works. Just my 2 cents though!!
Love these type of videos! Y’all’s banter is the best 💜. My curlfession is that I don’t let my girls touch my hair. They always want to touch it and I move away. I love my babies but these curls took some time to make and they won’t last long! Also, like Amanda, I go WAY too long between trims. Procrastination at its finest!
My goodness, I'm the same way!! I don't let my kids mess with my hair! I love them, yes. But I have five rough and tumbly kids, and I have very damaged delicate hair that gets plucked out of my head very easily, lol
Procrastination lol I don't only go way too long between trims but when I do decide I want to trim, I go AT LEAST two months before actually doing it (I trim/cut my hair myself)
Love the honesty! I am with you Mell I plan my workouts around my hair and some days I'll just do a walk or short hike so I don't ruin all that work I did on wash day. Thanks for making this video and continuing to be my inspiration!
I came back to this because while I confess I go too long without washing my hair I am at a loss as to why. In my head I make it out to be such a drama that I put it off. Once it’s washed I love how it feels, behaves and looks and I wonder why I put it off. I feel full of hope once it’s fully washed. What is wrong with me!! 😃
I love the robes, looking so great and springy in purple! Ok, curlfession, the workout exercise timing with a good hair day is a real problem. I don’t know how to fix that problem. I just put off the exercise rather than have to wash twice. What’s a girl to do? 😐. Thanks for admitting you guys leave your hair in bonnets and scrunchies, I feel so much better about my life. Love u guys.
Omggg I'm sooo excited I've always clicked on their videos as soon as I see them they give the best advice even their biggest mistakes are just ways they find to make their hair better but not just for themselves but for all of us as well I am so grateful for them 💖 ❤️😁💯☺️
Confession: as a nurse I went years putting my curly hair in a very tight, high ponytail or bun 3-4 days a week. So much so it straightened parts of my hair like a perm. I am better now at wearing it looser and making sure I wear it down on my days off.
Years ago when the whole no poo thing started I use to wash my hair with watered down baking soda and use acv for conditioner 🤣🤣🤣 Much love and happiness xoxo 😘
The color of the year, PURPLE. You guys killed it in this one! And I also have a problem with pulling at my hair a bit too much, plucking some hairs that just don't fit in. Trying to stop, because F off split ends!
Love how yall always coordinate your outfits to each other. And Amanda...I didnt miss the detail that your scrunchie matched ur robe too. And the purple and pink in the shower corner, purple brushes, and purple towel on the rack.
My curlfession: I cut my curls! (Well, really they were waves, but that didn’t have the lovely alliteration. 😜) I spent two years growing it longer, and got tired of it getting in my face and eyes. I have a weird head shape, so I’ve never liked it up. It was in my way all the time, and it was fussy! So last Friday I got bangs and a haircut from my favorite stylist. And now its just an inch or so longer than the nape of my neck. Verdict so far: I freaking love it! It’s almost wash and go! Waves and curls galore without the fuss! I look down or dance or move, and there’s nothing blocking my view! I feel free and fun!
glad you said you have your hair up in a bonnet or keep it in a bun!!!!!!! I always feel like other people with curly hair are doing a better job at wearing their hair open..I do switch it up and do a french braid or a dutch praid or a high ponytail just not my hair OPEN and washed hehe
I used to fry my hair the same way with the straightener! Also I tried the baking soda apple cider vinegar hair thing, it made my hair very dry. I was a serial straightener too lol, I had no idea how to care for my wavy/curly hair. My hair is more wavy than curly but I have learned so much from you! I recently bought the Briogeo scalp line because of you recommending it, and it is the best clarifying shampoo I have tried!
I gave up on wearing my hair curly for the most part- it’s just too much work and I hate the feeling of products in my hair. But I love Mel and Amanda so still come for the entertainment.
Love that you really liked the tip on using a wide tooth comb to break up the curl clumps before diffusing! BTW, my vote is for the white and purple towel! xx
I really appreciate this video ❤️ especially keeping your hair in a bonnet or up out of your face when you arent feeling it or feeling good. I love how down to earth you both are, thank you, it is refreshing 😊
I struggle a lot with skin picking and pulling on my hair. Instead of a bonnet I sleep with my hair wrapped up in a scarf. Sometimes I leave it up for days and neglect to wash or detangle my hair for wayyy too long and then I feel really guilty. I really appreciate hearing about you guys talking about these things, knowing it’s not just me and I don’t need to feel bad. Thank you!
I'm using the curlsmith protein salve tomorrow for the first time!! So this video was perfect timing!! Definitely relate to you Mell that I tend to push my wash days to day 6/7/8 😆 wash days can be daunting and I too have to be in the right head space!! 🤣🤦♀️ Loved this funny/relatable video!
My eldest niece has suffered from trichotillomania and at one point plucked out all of her eyebrows and most of her lashes. She also had clumps of her hair coming out, sometimes from stress pulling and someone just regular washing. Initially, we thought she just had eczema and her skin was very dry and itchy all over, but she was recently diagnosed with alopecia at 14 years old 😭 sometimes her hair does grow in but sometimes she gets bad patches, eventually she will lose all her hair. She's learned how to wear wigs and even taught herself how to install a front lace, as well as fill in her eyebrows. I'm extremely proud of her and I admire her confidence. She's taken this in stride and has learned to manage her anxiety to the point that she had not plucked in a long time. At her age idk if I would have had the confidence to do what she does, but she's just the best and loves herself 💕
Bless Me Seesters for I have sinned...... I am guilty of many wrong things. I absolutely WILL NOT exercise until after day 2 or 3 hair - if I can push it back, even better. I use whatever shampoo is in the shower (lately it's been..... don't say it ---- SUAVE! EEEEK!). I just bought the Monday shampoo and conditioner and am hoping those work for me. Also, I can NEVER remember what order to put product on .... shampoo, condition, leave in conditioner - then what? Gel? Styling stuff? Mousse? And WHEN DO I RUN A COMB EVER SO LIGHTLY through my hair??? When do I put the oil on? I'm so corn-fused. You girls make me laugh all the time and I love you dearly for trying to help people like me.... who are hair-frustrated. I do the 4 S's too .... Shower, shave and shampoo on Sunday! I have no idea when to deep condition, so I do it when I think of it - and I schedule my entire life around wash day ...... (((((Hugs from Myrtle Beach, SC)))))
Well, what really helped me is: 1.Shampoo (to open the cuticles and of course, clean your scalp) 2.Deep condition or Regular conditioner. If you choose to deep conditioner, you will have more day afters ( I highly recommend it, bc that was the game changer for me.. to treat your hair when it's the cleanest (right after the shampoo) to receive the hair mask. And the mask also varies from time to time.. sometimes is more protein based, sometimes more hydrating, etc) That's why I focus on the formula of the conditioner and deep conditioner. *Sometimes, I skip the deep cond (or anyone with a really good formula..) and just do the basic, shampoo and conditioner. However, the more I do just the basic, the less (good) day afters I get. For me, good 4 to 5 (or more) day afters = good deep conditioners. In fact, I wash my hair every 3 days more bc of my scalp then having to moisturize the strands 3.Conditioner (to seal the cuticles, even if I choose to treat my hair that day, I still think the conditioner helps to lock the moisture in... Regular conditioners don't give me more than 3 good day afters 4. After the shower begins the styling routine.. this begins with the leave in conditioner (as a base to prep your hair for the styler) *For me, I usually mix 2 leave in conditioners together (bc I haven't found the one for me yet) 5. Gel or mousse or sth to help define and hold your curls in place (with more or less hold) 6. Air dry / diffuse 7. Oil or serum to break the cast, or scrunch or fluff your hair. Ps: I don't use heat protectant bc I don't have one, so the next styling products I buy, I'll look for heat protection built in them (so that I don't have to use more then 2 styling products, bc I'm lazy) Hope that helps!
I love your videos so much Mell and Amanda 💜🤍💜🖤. My curlfession is that I play, shake, twirl and separate my curls while watching TV 😩. I don't know why I just can not stop touching my hair. I spent most my life with my hair styled unnaturally. The feeling of fluffy springy curls all over my head simply still entertains me 🤣.
Love this one!!! Was excited to see the title and it was just as good as the click bait title made it seem! The dramatic music even,,, all of it was great! Well done ladies!!!
Yup! Truly one of the best both in entertainment and content! I'm guilty to pretty much all of those confession combined... Plus with the fact I don't always sleep in a satin bonnet or pillow case, I use way too tight hair ties... sometimes I will wash my hair today and only style it tomorrow (that lazy)... Also sometimes I deep conditionin the shower and then completely skip conditioner... But, most importantly, I still haven't found all my staples.. shampoo is a struggle.. I think I'm addicted to shampooing twice every single time... But this is public service hahaha seriously though... It is
Can you pleeeeeaaaaassseee review the Rizos Curls line? It’s a new Latinx brand that’s available at Target and Ulta in the USA and Sally’s in Mexico. I want to support but also want to make sure it’s safe for my curly hair. Thank yooooouuuu!!! ❤️
I love their gel! I don't use the other stuff cuz it has coconut oil which my hair hates, but a lot of people really like it. Not sure what you mean by "safe" for curly hair, but they're sulfate & silicone free if those are ingredients you avoid
Simply one of your best videos, guys!! You have no idea how much I appreciate it 💖 Mell, I totally felt you when you said you need to be mentally, emotionally, spiritually and timely (ready) to get through your wash days 😭 I thought I was the only one!! CONFESSION I also need to confess that I’ve put my hair in a bun on a wash day 😭😭
OMGOSH LOVED IT! Was absolutely dying with the curlfessions and the bloopers 😂😂😂 Amanda I hope you’re feeling better after fixing your tooth!! Lol mel I totally confess that I also avoid working out after a perfectly good hair day hahah. Sometimes it’s just easier for me to work out constantly when my hair is looking dull and flat 😅😅😅which gives me more of a reason to work out longer and wash my hair.
I work out 3 times a week. My system for making sure my hair still looks okay after is that I wear the Scrunchit Breath. It is a mesh bonnet. If i put my hair in a bun or pineapple and then get sweaty it stretches the curls out. If i wear the mesh bonnet my hair is usually only slightly affected, even if I get reallll sweaty. I saw a tip recently to apply dry shampoo BEFORE the workout so it can absorb the oils and sweat as you go instead of afterwards. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to as it starts to warm up!
You’re not alone in that Mel 💯😉 I’m often too lazy to spray wet my hair for refresh and will just put my head under the tub faucet 🤷🏼♀️ & add more product.
Hey loves! I'd love to know some tips you have for interview and professional hairstyles. I'm headed into my PhD program and I want to wear my hair curly. However, all the time growing up I've always been told my natural hair isn't professional. I'd love some help embracing my curls in the professional setting as well
Lord I could list so much. I'm just a wavy girl but I can NOT finger detangle! Have to use a wet brush and sometimes have to dry brush the nape of my neck to refresh cuz it's a mess after day 2. I slack on the deep conditioner every week sometimes because it takes so long. 45+ min to diffuse is long enough to fit in! So I just leave my conditioner on a lil longer and am heavier on the leave in. Day 5 is usually in a ponytail that's tighter or a bun but at least I use a silk or satin scrunchy! And lastly I touch my front pieces so much putting them behind my ears so they do not hold the curl well at all. Havent found a strong hold gel actually hold strong for me yet. So I just deal with it. Don't even worry about refreshing those cuz I know I'll put it behind the ear irregardless!
So glad I’m not the only one who avoids working out if my hair is looking bomb! I ALSO twist my hair. Especially if the ends feel wonky it gets obsessive!
Happy Texture Tuesday!!! This video is so fun to watch!! The banter between you too is great!! The bloopers are always amazing!! My confession is I love using my wide tooth comb I have fine hair so it separates my clumps nicely!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo 😘
I love the robes, ma’ams. My curlfessions start with, but are not limited to: almost never diffusing, not sectioning, not brushing through product, not deep conditioning as often as I need to, especially in the winter. This video was fun, and I prolly need to do a bond curl treatment, so thanks for the reminder!
Younger Mell and Amanda sitting in a tree😁 B. E. I. N. G. hair care-free😁 I think I just watched and enjoyed every moment of a live premiere where Mell and Amanda spilled their curly journey's tea😁 Those two are just the best💜💕💜💕💜💕💜💕💜💕
Hilarious! I push my wash day to the limit too! You are right...one has to have the time and correct mental state of mind to wash curly hair. When I need encouragement, I usually watch one of you videos and it works! Thanks!
The very first time I straightened my hair in middle school my friends literally IRONED my hair on an ironing board! An all through hs I knew nothing about heat protection and did soooo many passes with my not temperature regulated 1st Gen chi iron! And still have great 2b/c waves!
So much love to the seesters! Thanks for being so real with us all! My curlfession: I wait to long to wash, sometimes my scalp gets super itchy and then I know it's time to wash 😬😳 and 75 % of the time, my hair is up!
Thank you so much for sharing this confessions. Sometimes I struggle to use or not use products with silicone. Like you said, as long it works for me….. Thank you very much for your honesty.
I play with my hair too and some days I can't stop doing it. I know it's damaging but I just have to do something with my hands and my hair is THERE, that's why I usually leave it up in a bun when I am at home
Somehow I can't imagine you two not enjoying each other's company. But then l do have 5 sisters and remember the moments when we didn't get along. 😂As we get older, the time together becomes even more precious. I love my sisters ❤️ and watching your sisterly love too! 😘
Loved the video as always. I have many confessions: must have shampoo, tried without silicones but I love them, my hair doesn't like drugstore products, I have way too many products and want more, I brush my hair dry with oil in it. The weirdest one is that I will Bobby pin up all my curls under my buff for sleep. I do this when I have made defined thick curl clumps. Takes 5 to 10 minutes at night, no refreshing needed in the morning.
I too will curlfess that I have scheduled wash days when I have to be on camera for work. Otherwise, it may stay pineappled or ponytailed for days. Yay for all the purple!
I was dying laughing at Mell being in Amanda's hot hot shower clip. My curlfession is that I air dry my hair. I live in Colorado where it's so dry, and I only ever diffuse for special occasions! I'm just not patient enough for the diffuser most every week. I love and appreciate all your guys content!
I definitely also didn’t use shampoo for a year when I was 12. I didn’t put conditioner on my roots though. I also washed my hair everyday in 6th-7th grade
It's getting hot here in California's Central Valley. I have been putting my hair up a lot, namely in a banana clip. I find banana clips don't mess up my curls and they feel much more comfortable.
When I use my hair treatments I leave them in my hair until my next hair wash day and I never detangle my hair in the shower or before I wash my hair I have not trimmed my hair in 1 year.... I have stopped using heat tools on my hair every week and my hair is getting healthier.... The hair product that I use on my curls is the dippity do girls with curls and my curls look awesome now
You should check out the boho scarf ideas! I think you girls would love these ideas and also teach us how to do them ! They are soooo fun!!! Love you girls!
I love your channel because you do provide info and product recommendations for both CGM and non CGM gals or for those who mix CGM with Non CGM techniques and products. Once I started really diving into my curly hair research I did go straight into the CGM for years BUT i wasn’t getting awesome results that everyone else was. Especially living in a year round humid climate state(southeast Georgia gal) So I then stumbled across your TH-cam channel and that’s when I learned about how silicones can be beneficial as long as you know how to properly remove the silicones. So I then did my own silicones deep dive research and found natural ingredients that act like silicones AND I also learned about water soluble silicones and the difference between non water soluble vs water soluble silicones. That’s when the light bulb went off. So I do have products that contain silicones BUT they are water soluble silicones(can be washed out with a non sulfate shampoo) so they are easy to wash out and do not create buildup.
My curl pattern is similar to Amanda's not a very tight curl but more like a spiral curl. I do my oil treatment once a week and leave it overnight covered with a scarve and then a silk bonnett over that. I apply organic coconut oil the 1 used for cooking then Black Jamaican Castor Oil as well as Amla oil...I detangle my hair dry as I feel that when it's wet it tangles more. The next morning I use a clarifying shampoo with apple cider vinegar....I love the Aunt Jackie's range. Just don't know why it's never advertized?? Then a deep conditioner which I leave on for about 10min while I shave etc...I rinse it out then styling begins. I finger coil each strand with a leave in conditioner and a de frizz mousse from Aunt Jackie's range as well as a curl custard. I only apply a gel afterwards as per ur recommendation. I diffuse with hot air on the highest speed. What works best for me is to put my hair in a bun with a satin scrunchie...not the pineapple method I hate this. When I don't go out my hair stays in a bun for like 3 days..then the curls are perfect...like Mel I don't refresh my curls and wash every 8 days...I also do no follow the curly girl method. Oh that Denman brush knots my hair like crazy. I invested in a bamboo paddle brush so will see how that works. I love your'e channel. I have even gone so far to unsubscribe to other girls with curly hair...they just give shit info....love you guys....and the great content...hope u read my long msg...can u maybe do a video using Aunt Jackie's products?? Oh another ? There's a glass method with water to see if you have high or low porosity hair..please can u share it. I will post a DM on IG for you to please check out my hair has well as Aunt Jackie's products...love you both😘
I follow the cgm undirectly cause i have colored hair... so like no sulfates for the color and since i don't want to have to clarify my hair too much i also skip non water soluble silicones
I am with you Mell, I have to be bodily and spirituality prepared to wash my hair. Kids have to be in bed, husband out of the way and then I get down to business. This tired teacher has been wearing braids all week. Tomorrow i have milk maid braids planned.
Can you please do a video sometime on hair that has protein overload? Not sure how to easily determine which products I should/shouldn’t be using on my low-porosity, protein overloaded hair. Thanks!!
Curlfesion - I also take warm showers, but what I do to help prevent the loss of my red hair dye is I will wash everywhere but my hair in the warm water then cool the water for washing and rinsing the hair. I stick my head out into the water ostrich style... 😆 love your videos btw!
Confession(s): I also will push my wash days. I take really hot showers. Since Manes by Mell, I don’t follow CGM because I realized it didn’t work for me. Before I started wearing my hair natural, I flat ironed regularly. There were times where I did it twice a week. And I would even do it on extremely wet hair. OR (my absolute favorite 😂) I would get Vaseline, put it on my hair and flat iron my hair. No heat protection. Nothing. I also had a really bad habit - and will occasionally still do this when I don’t have scissors nearby - of pulling my split ends and fairy knots off the end of my strands. Oh my gawd. I also used to condition my hair every day (yes, every day) and shampooed once a week. I genuinely believed my hair looked best when it was wet and hated when it would dry because it would get frizzy. And I was completely against blow drying my hair.
Curlfession: I have wavy hair with my curls at my temple. The last few weeks, I'll wash my hair on schedule, but just leave condition it, scrunch some curls out and just don't do anything with my hair, until the next wash day, or if I need to style it. I just haven't been bothered, but I didn't want to alter my wash routine either.
This is my favorite video yet. I love the outtakes at the end. I've got a shopping 🛒 going at Curlsmith. My confession is I have been putting my hair up when it's wet. I have a halo of baby hair frizz.
I don't use the curly girl method and I also use hair grease 🤷🏽♀️ works for me! I also accidentally fried my hair but after a few weeks my curls are almost completely back!
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO CONFESS? the juicier the answer the better! Thank you so much in advance for your forgiveness. We definitely aren't perfect with our hair routine and we hope you learn from our mistakes and found this informative!
I have to confess that ironed my hair but it was the iron for the CLOTHES with hair spray on it.
Sometimes I wait too long to style & my hair is partially dry. I have to use a lot of water from my spray bottle.
@@sandymedina7353 well at least there was hairspray. Desperate times call for drastic measures.
@@sandymedina7353 same here and of course singed my ears plenty too!!
I used to have my mom iron my hair…like the ones you use for clothing, because it took less time than me using a flat iron. 😅
With my curly hair, it’s definitely that I never refresh my hair. If it needs to be refreshed, then it goes up in a pony tail. 😆
Mell, Please do a video on aging curly hair and how gray hairs react to products differently.
Yes, please!
Yes Yes Yes!!!
Yes, please!
Yes, please.....
I’d be interested to have that too! I have super fine hair but my greys are gradually coming in much coarser!
My confession is I ALWAYS play with my hair. I even touch it while it’s still damp! I’m not bothered by the frizz 🙀
Same! My constant curl twirling and playing with my hair is actually a huge pet peeve of my dad's, it drives him nuts lol
Like that you have both always been advising “you do you “ and not about strict rules of CGM. My hair has look so much better since I stopped following CGM and just listened to what my hair needs. Love all the purple 💜
Thank you laura!! So happy to hear that
@@ManesByMell lol🤭
@@SubtleSecrets same!
@@nadaartisan8447 can you list the products you use please?
My confessions:
I sleep with wet hair
I bought my first deep conditioner & leave-in products 2 weeks ago 🤦🏽♀️
I don't prepoo or co wash
I don't own a diffuser
I also sleep with wet hair. ☺️
Same🙋♀️🤦♀️
This is a big deal for me too! I’ve been experimenting with gym friendly hairstyles that don’t completely f up my curl pattern, it’s hard!
Totally understand you!
Ohhh I might try that
Well, pro tip for your routine.
LOL you know it!!
😂😂😂 Me too lol!
Same here 🙋♀️, AND I can't keep my hair down! I wish I could but it's just all over the place 😕

I have a pair of hair shears next to my desk and I will trim split ends. But! I'm right handed so I tend to only trim my left side. Ope.
Omg I can't stop twirling my hair either. Been doing it since childhood. It's so hard not to. And I think it makes split ends
As long as you aren't using products such as cheap conditioners that
* replace * hydrating & moisturizing ingredients with silicones, & you don't cowash only, you could at least TRY it out & see how it works. Just my 2 cents though!!
Silicone can clog follicles tho and lead to hair loss. I’ve seen it happen too many times.
Thank you for admitting how often you really have your hair up! That makes me feel better about myself:)
Oh I just thought of a curlconfession i did back im the HS days…. Using Sun In to lighten my hair while baking in the sun ☀️ all day
I love the robes, looking so great and springy in purple!

My curlfession is: I have my hair in a bun a lot because of work 😩 love you guys. And thank you for helping me take care of my curls ♥️♥️
Thank you!
My bonnets always fall off. I can’t get them to stay on all night. I’ve tried head scarves too. I must just be a wild sleeper.
Thanks Mell and Amanda, this was fun and refreshing. We all have unique routines and occasional disregard them 😁
We definitely aren’t perfect! Thanks for watching 💜💜
Confession: I haven’t washed my hair after the pool until the next day! I loved this video, so much fun!!
Well, what really helped me is:
1.Shampoo (to open the cuticles and of course, clean your scalp)
2.Deep condition or Regular conditioner. If you choose to deep conditioner, you will have more day afters ( I highly recommend it, bc that was the game changer for me.. to treat your hair when it's the cleanest (right after the shampoo) to receive the hair mask. And the mask also varies from time to time.. sometimes is more protein based, sometimes more hydrating, etc)
That's why I focus on the formula of the conditioner and deep conditioner.
*Sometimes, I skip the deep cond (or anyone with a really good formula..) and just do the basic, shampoo and conditioner. However, the more I do just the basic, the less (good) day afters I get.
For me, good 4 to 5 (or more) day afters = good deep conditioners.
In fact, I wash my hair every 3 days more bc of my scalp then having to moisturize the strands
3.Conditioner (to seal the cuticles, even if I choose to treat my hair that day, I still think the conditioner helps to lock the moisture in... Regular conditioners don't give me more than 3 good day afters
4. After the shower begins the styling routine.. this begins with the leave in conditioner (as a base to prep your hair for the styler)
*For me, I usually mix 2 leave in conditioners together (bc I haven't found the one for me yet)
5. Gel or mousse or sth to help define and hold your curls in place (with more or less hold)
6. Air dry / diffuse
7. Oil or serum to break the cast, or scrunch or fluff your hair.
Ps: I don't use heat protectant bc I don't have one, so the next styling products I buy, I'll look for heat protection built in them (so that I don't have to use more then 2 styling products, bc I'm lazy)
Hope that helps!
I love your videos so much Mell and Amanda 💜🤍💜🖤. My curlfession is that I play, shake, twirl and separate my curls while watching TV 😩. I don't know why I just can not stop touching my hair. It is

I used to curl my WET hair with a butane curling iron! 😫
On another note, thank you for addressing Trichotillomania.
Oh my
Amanda: the hair looks so good! You are giving me “Brave Merida” vibes.

@@wendydeklerk9960 that's what I did when I first found them two years ago, at the start of covid.
I confess I use maybe to much oil to refresh my curls. I might also a little heavy handed with the leave in conditioners
Mine are I diffuse on high heat because I get so tired
And I use sulphate shampoos🌚
So glad I’m not the only one who avoids working out if my hair is looking bomb! I ALSO twist my hair. Especially if the ends feel wonky it gets obsessive!

Omg both of you are breathtakingly stunning in all aspects
So glad to know I'm not the only one who takes a long time to detangle my hair
I did that too! Burning the crap sizzling my hair straight w a "wet to straight"
I too will curlfess that I have scheduled wash days when I have to be on camera for work. Otherwise, it may stay pineappled or ponytailed for days. Yay for all the purple!
This video was so much fun 2 watch! The bloopers were hilarious and I love the seester vibes!
Watching you guys style your hair is so calming!
love that!!
My curlfession is that I wash too often. I just love a clean scalp.
I already love this so much haha, you guys are the cutest! This honesty makes me so happy, so far I've done all the things you mention :DD
I will post a DM on IG for you to please check out my hair has well as Aunt Jackie's products...love you both😘
Dude I relate to all of these
👍 nice watching you both - gorgeous hair
(I don't exercise when my hair is freshly washed 🥺)
Thanks!!
I love hot showers too! I do turn the heat down a little when it’s time to wash and condition hair though.
Literally cryingggg watching the bloopers 😂 love you guys💕 I am absolutely guilty of all of these curl-fessions
I used to not exercise when I had a good hair dat but I realised that we need a healthy body as well so now I workout without hesitating
You're not the only one! I don't always use my microfiber towel yikes
I don't use the curly girl method and I also use hair grease 🤷🏽♀️ works for me! I also accidentally fried my hair but after a few weeks my curls are almost completely back!
