  • There are MANY different types of shampoos on the market: volumizing, moisturizing, strengthening, clarifying, gentle, dry etc. the list goes on! This video will dive into the different types of shampoos you should use for your hair: gentle, clarifying, chelating, and/or specialty. That’s right, shampoo(S) plural because if you’ve only been using one cleanser…. You need to see this video to find out how and why you may be using your shampoo wrong, what shampoo you should use for your curly hair, oily hair, etc, and the reasons why the one you are using may not be ideal for your hair and scalp needs. Hint -- it may be the reason why you may not be getting the results you want from your cleanser!!

All this time I felt like I was breaking a rule using clarifying shampoo for every wash, but I only wash every few days and I use a LOT of product, so my hair was just a lot nicer to me once I started doing that. Thanks for the confirmation!

Thank you for confirming its okay to use clarifying shampoos with sulfphates. We're so often told as curlies to not use sulfphates but recently I started using it again and my hair has never looked better! For reference, I have thin, low perosity hair, only wash twice a week and workout heavily so there's a lot of buildup!

Some of my clients reported me, that they had issues with sulfate free shampoos. They had the feeling of having residues from the shampoos, kind of a greasy clogg. So I advised them to prefoam the shampoo by rubbing it hard between the hands to get a fine lather before applying it to the scalp. And this worked great. It distribustes much better so the needed less product und it rinsed out thoughly, no residues left. Maybe that can help some of your viewers too. I do that for every foaming product now and it also works very well for facial cleansers. My skin never felt so clean 😊

Hey Mell! I've just been binging a bunch of your vids.Love your personality and how knowledgable you are. Perfect combo! Question related to this vid. Any packageless shampoo recommended for dry scalps? Im a curly girl with an above the shoulder cut and chemically processed coloured hair. I currently wash twice a week but I find that I reluctantly need to add to the list of shampoos I already have. (Oleplex 4, Pattern's clarifying shampoo) I got the Briogeo Scalp Revival shampoo as it was colour friendly but it washed my hair a bit too well. Great for maintaining a clean feeling between washes but I'm still itching my dry scalp. I'm just massaging jojoba oil on my parched scalp on wash days for now. 🤞🏼 Any tips?

So I just watched the video again. Between the live chat yesterday and my son I was a little distracted lol....loved it very informative!!! I have fine low density low porosity 2c waves and I always have a problem keeping my curl clumps separated they always seem to just clump back together making me look like I have no hair lol. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Much love and happiness xoxo!!!😘

Mel! This was very helpful! I would say that we have a very similar curl pattern, and I am finding that my scalp is ready to do be washed by day 4-5 as I experience a lot of itchiness. I am also pretty active with working out but living in Toronto (heyyyy girl), I stay home to work with occasionally going outside. SAYING ALLLLLAA THAT to ask you, what are your thoughts about protective styling? I do like to put braids in once a year, and I was wondering if you have any information on preparing hair and scalp for a protective style (braids) to last about 2-3 weeks (my scalp just cried at the thought of not washing it for 2-3 weeks lool). But seriously, what are some precautions to take? Can my hair fall out doing protective styles (specifically, braids)?

I think a co-wash is great for when I need to wash on day 2 or in the summer when I swim most days (of course, paired with more clarifying options!). But yeah, if I use it alone by scalp hates me!

can you make a video about protective hairstyles that aren’t braids and such and that are simple ? i have 3B curls and i live in toronto so yak, we’re in lockdown, so my hair is getting damaged just staying at home, especially since i can’t/ don’t know how to braid my hair. should i put products/ oils everytime i do a protective style?
