Beautiful sunrise and snow. music is SPOT ON! Trees are amazing. Live bombs. Don’t touch. Great vlogging, everyone! Hugs! Great group! Epic location. Going to watch and stop commenting now. 😄
Rocks, squishy, mud, epic...indeed all words that describe the Sods. Excellent video of your first day. Nice fun group! Look forward to more vids from this trip.
Day 2 squish was sooooo bad. Somehow I managed to stay dry enough to still be comfortable. Looking forward to getting back up there. This group is a real hoot...never know what might happen. :)
That was an awesome opening sequence! I love how Dolly Sods terrain changes in a blink. Glad you caught the Panda/Smitty duel lol Glad you were able to make it, always a fun time with this crew!
Wow amazing, what a wonderful place. Very valuable presentation and it is fantastic. I wish you the best of luck and continue to improve your channel.really I enjoyed watching your video and thanks for sharing. Hope you have a wonderful day.
*_Oh wow, what a fantastic morning. It looks very cold, but fantastic light in the rising sun and the landscapes white frosty, great shots. Again a great adventure, beautiful forests, wild watercourses and a nice sleeping place. Also had to smile about the hiking boots at the beginning.... ;-) Finally a crackling campfire, just beautiful out there. Many thanks for the virtual 'take away', I liked it very much. Have a good pre-Christmas time, best regards, Angela_*
Thanks Sweeps! Definitely worth going to and easy to access. There is evidence of over use and some impolite trash dumping here and there. There was also an abandoned fire we chose to deal with. The views are outstanding. I would not want to visit during "wet" season, whenever that is...
Thanks Dragon! It was so cold and windy up there when I arrived before sunrise. I'm so glad things calmed down a bit before we set off. Still working concepts for the next segment...
That frozen landscape in the sunrise was really something. Makes me wanna hike during winter! Just don't quite have the gear yet for those temperatures.
Hi Gijs! Hiking in the winter is fun. I started off just using what I had. My sleep system is still just two nested sleeping bags. Nesting sleeping bag ratings follows the accepted formula of [x -(70 - y)/2 = z].
Oh? The road was open? I'm surprised. You must have just made it. It might have been cold but it was worth it I think. Those views were crazy. Much better scenery than I ever witnessed there in the 4 or 5 times I been to this magical place. Good stuff. Now that's a trip you'll never forget.
Yes, the road was open. Evidently it closes Jan through mid April. The views were spectacular and definitely a trip that wont be forgotten. We deviated from the plan and cut our time a little short due to incoming bad weather. I will need to go back to see some of the Southern areas. This is definitely a magical place. Thanks for suggesting that I work hard to get out there.
@@KrizAkoni Bear rocks area is awesome obviously, but I wonder if you made it to the forks of Red Creek? Lions head? Those are the key points! I guess I'll see in PT2! :)
Dolly Sods is on my bucket list for sure!...flipping beautiful landscape!!…"no playing with the live bombs!"...lol...nice to see Kurt I miss his livestreams...nice campsite!
We all love spring and fall on the trail but the ice crystals on the trees sure add a different kind of beauty. Really nice section and great campsite. How do you like the Sealskinz socks ?
I'm glad I decided to make the trip up there this time of year. The moons aligned perfectly for a good time. Initial thoughts on the socks are positive. They did keep ultra wet soggy and cold conditions away from my feet. They are warmer than normal socks. Wool socks and Altras would have been miserable (been there many times). These do hold a lot of water though and the outside gets pretty soggy. I took them off at night. The outside was still very wet in the AM but the inside was less than damp. Day 2 I used wool socks under the Sealskinz. The wool socks were dry when I got home and my feet were happy. If water were to get inside these down your leg (pouring rain) they might not be s nice. Still more testing to do. good news is I will wear them again. They were comfortable for me.
Beautiful sunrise! Brrrr!
Thanks! It was super cold and windy at the start. I'm glad things calmed down a bunch before we set off. :)
loved the opening of the video showing the early morning beauty of the frozen landscape with the sun rising
Thanks Craig! I was not expecting how beautiful it would be up there. The sunrise and wind driven ice was an extra special surprise.

Definitely glad I made the time to do this hike with you all, thanks for the invite! I had a blast. I've been wanting to go up there for a long time.
Some breathtaking views, makes the cold temps worth it!!
Thanks! That cold morning was the most amazing sunrise I had ever experienced. :)
Great video Kriz. Everything looked so crisp & clear. Fantastic photos. Nice!
Thanks Walker! The air was nice and cold and dry that 1st morning and the views benefited from it. The M50 helped a lot to capture it.
KrizAkoni The M50 is a sweet affordable camera. I am going to pick one up myself soon with a Rode mic. Thanks
I love Dolly Sods!! Incredibly beautiful out there. Part two please. I want to see more. 😁😁
It’s really cool! I should have part 2 by the weekend... 🤓
Love the early morning frost , looked like an awesome place to visit . Thanks

Nice sky and frost OMG very nice love it
Thank you! The sky was amazing. Definitely worth the early wake up drive.
Great video you got some awesome shots while you waited on us. Love how the video turned out. Look forward to the next segment.

Beautiful landscapes Kriz. Looked like a very nice hike. 😀
It was fun Senior hiker 77! There are lots of campsites there and many are near water.
this trip looked awesome! it looked so cold! I love all the setups!
Thanks Burnwood! 1st day was a very cold start. Fortunately it warmed a little each night and we managed to stay comfortable.
wow this is nice place..i love the trees with some snow on leaves...looks beautiful 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for taking the time to comment. The frozen wilderness is so beautiful...🤓
@@KrizAkoni yes...true!!! but im not sure if i like the cold feeling... from frozen place!!!😁😁😁😊😊
The beginning was awesome and the campsites looked great. Definitely need to get out there and explore.
Thank you! Totally worth the trip. The campsites are well established and flat. :)
Man..that place looks gorgeous! Awesome video brother 👍👍
Thanks so much Quicksand! Doing video in the cold was a lot harder than I expected. I really loving this place.

Awesome! Not sure why I haven't been there yet.
Lots of places to camp and very cool views. It's an interesting place worth visiting.

Will definitely be headed back there to explore some more when it gets a little warmer. It's an amazing place for sure. 😎
Holy cow it's like watching my video only 178 times better lmao . That place looks so nice . Maybe next year ??
Definitely worth any time you can spend there. Based on the sogginess, Fall is probably best. 🤓

@@KrizAkoni Thanks. I've been considering trying some. My daughter tried them but not in the conditions you were in 👍
Sweet camp chair @9:16. I bet that is super light and great for backpacking. Comfortable?
That is "Dragon Roams" chair...definitely light and comfy! He likes to hike in style. 🤓 Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!
The frosty trees were beautiful! Are you part of a backpacking club? Nice to have a group to go out with.
Thanks! No club, just a bunch of us that were brought together through the TH-cam platform and making hiking vids.
❤️NICE VIDEO❤️ my friend❤️LOVE❤️😊❤️🎂🍰🍧🍮🍦🍨✨🎅✨
such a pretty sunrise. Night time temps?
Night temps dipped to around 30. Enough to support icing but not enough to freeze my water bottles. 🥶
