Even Dima does a lot of strange and really debatable things, I hear his perfomance for many times unlike other participants, including laureates. At some moment I caught my face with a smile. He is a true Musician no matter what
I find this performance to be not only extremely original but also full of delight and pleasure. It is a pity that he didn’t win or make the final round. Shame on the judges

This ingenious, authentic musician hopelessly overtaxed the jury. On top of that, he's Russian. Apparently, in 2024 this combination was simply too much of a good thing to be able to make it to the final. In competitions like this, one should rather not go over the top to reach the top. - I hope to see and hear Dmitry perform in concert halls around the world soon!
Regardless of how ingenious and authentic his interpretation is, I think he should still consider whether this is too much to ask of a competition orchestra, which sounds very rigid compared to his free flowing baroque style, and the result is just a bit weird. Arguably a good soloist should know how to find common ground with the conductor / orchestra. That could be a factor for the jury.
Very unique...I don't know whether I like the phrasing or not. I do agree that after hearing Mozart 4 performed in the traditional manner for a while, this is a breath of fresh air.
Very personal approach and musicianship. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in competitions, unless there is some political reason, like we see often these days. This kind of playing do not fit for a jury, where evryone has a different view and taste and they agree only on a common, scholar basis. This phrasing might go to far for them. It is sometimes the case for me and this has nothing to do with the fact of being russian. I find it interesting but far from any competition requirements. There is a marge to freedom of expression in these competitions. Personally, I have never liked the idea of these contests, even when I have went trough.
Finally the entire Concert! Congrats to the Orchestra and the Conductor. Perfect and caring basis for the soloists! Dimitri Smirnov's performance to me is far beyond of anything which you can expect. Made me cry... Really. It is a shame that he wasn't appointed for the finals. Political reasons, I guess. Anyhow, he will make an extraordinary career.
The performance by Dmitry Smirnov is absolutely the composer's (Mozart Himself) intention. What a superb golden classical era interpretation. He should have been the first prize for it. The problem is that all the juries completely underates the real Mozartian playing which is more simplified and a strong emphasis on operatic musical rythm and elegance. The only thing that lacks is the execution of performing it in A= 432hz to make it the utmost Mozart musical Authenticity, If the competition allows it to do so. In conclusion, GENUINE STYLE OF PLAYING = PURE TECHNIQUE! 💯👏
Are u sure buddy? I've been listening and studying mozart for 5 years and none of his music should be played in that kind of interpretation. It should be played in tempo. Trust me you're not gonna convince me, as mozarts #1 listener on spotify, and as a violinist who has studied and played all of mozarts violin concertos that this interpretaion was Mozart's "intention". I'm not saying this violinst is bad though. He is flawless. With a different interpretation (and a different bow) he could get on the podium or even win!
@@guillaumepolack7598 Well, obviously all musical pieces must indeed, be played in tempo. We're just the same, long years of studying and listening to Mozart. The point here is that, Mozart during his time was not that too technical in violin playing (vibrato, overtones) but rather a musical technician that strongly shows the emphasis of musical elegance, that's why it's classical era piece. I respect your opinion though and thanks for responding.
I think he had the best 1st round by far. This baroque style thought is interesting it makes the violin so hard. You cant hear the instrument sing and it also lacks the brilliancy that Mozart needs.
Comme souvent sont les génies. C'est trop pour un jury de plusieurs personnes avec des gouts différents, qui s'accordent que sur un jeu sommes toutes assez scolaire et peu personnel. Ils détestent ça.
Such a special musician. If only there were more like him. It’s a lonely world for originality - sadly. If I were on the panel I would have fought tooth and nail for him. Why on earth is there a stiff orchestra behind him with an even more rigid conductor. It’s bizarre.
Honestly I'm glad he didn't win... I appreciate his playing, it's totally unique but at the same time I feel like it's just too much and that he's breaking the phrasing instead of shaping it. Playing like this it's extremely complicated for the orchestra and it has obvious consequences. It becomes really difficult to feel WELL if the performance it's constantly unstable for an entire movement... Sometimes it's just too cloying. Orchestra and conductor did an awesome job listening to the soloist but the performance in general sounds weird. He has a lot of fantasy for sure, so go on and listen to the performance, you'll learn a lot.
No, it is not. A bunch of people who couldn’t achieve a proper level of violin playing love this kind of performance. I think it’s not difficult to guess the reason. Maybe they don’t feel hopeless anymore :)
Ah sim, ele se apresenta em altíssimo padrão com Sol Gabetta e outros grandes intérpretes e maestros, isso provavelmente porque ele é cômico segundo vocês, sério?
@@humbleman5612 you ever heard ivry gitlis play? you ever hear any baroque or historically informed performance? its just a STYLE of playing, its not messiness or a lack of skill, it just doesn't sound exactly how Western 19th century masters would play it. my point was not that "its difficult so hes struggling" my point was "its difficult and he's KILLING it."

not sure how much his russian-ness matters here - he's been living in switzerland for years now

@@stewartsiu1960 His extemporaneous manner of playing made many musicians in the orchestra and the conductor laugh.

It’s not his fault to pass to the semi-finals.
Great technique but rather pedestrian choice of repertoire
