thank you for teaching me fiber glass and the care that must be in it's preparation. i think you and i are a lot alike in our finished product !!!thank you again !! i wish i could meet you guys but i'm 79 and spent my life helping others and forgot me, but that's ok i 'm not sorry. when i was young i dreamed of doing what you guys are doing sailing all over and read a lot of books about it. now i live in Eureka, ca. a coastal town with a bay and a lot of idle fishing boats. well i've rambled on long enough i love you guys and have you in my prayers all the time i am going to become one of your patrons tell my death ( long way off ) carl stout
Great plug for lady africa. Been watching them for a while now. They great and very informative. I would def recommend watching if anyone was looking for an additional review/second recommendation.
Remember Bob Ross , the painter ? .. he was always passionate about this way of working. He had to be for obvious reasons. Watching him makes my mind go at ease. But listening to Teals voice I realised it’s has almost the same affect. So .. please consider that as a big compliment!!! Great art work by the way .. that’s also more to my scope. :-)
Another great video and job well done, sv basik is one awesome boat teal, she's a beauty and your vision and hard work hasn't gone unnoticed,I can't say enough of how impressed I am of sv basik and your channel really is one of the best on TH-cam, take care be safe and may your needs be met when needed....
Can’t wait each week to see how everything is progressing, your attention to detail is some of the best I have seen, including mine. What ever you tackle is well thought out, and near perfectly done. Thank, you. Pat
And I thought my project was tedious..Not bored yet watching your progress since I know the end is getting closer but much more to go in the sugar scoops for the rudder assemblies. Thanks Capt Teal and Crew !!
Another great video showing your attention to the small details that make a big difference on the end product. Great job as always Teal. Love your videos.
Probably cheering you on and keeping your spirits high as you approach the (near)-completion is the best I can do. HURRAY! YEAH! GREAT WORK TEAL!! You go man
The one thing I've done differently is at transition areas, I use the tip of a paint brush to stipple the cloth into radised areas....the cloth lays down and removes air quicker than with a roller. I've noticed that Teal is a perfectionist and that is why his layups and finished work looks so nice. This wasn't an easy layup (at least for me) but the glass just seemed to fall into place for him.....a sign he has had a lot of practice! Interesting stuff.....
Great work as usual!! I don't think we will ever get bored of it. Very educational as well as inspirational. You did not mention the consistency of the epoxy, so Ill say it. THICKENED :)
After i have laid the glass down and the serface is ready for fairing, I get an very fine bladed grauting scraper and spread the bog out making fine grove lines. the secand coating fills in the groves and then you have an nice smooth serface to paint on the secend coat and with each coat fill in the voids or hollwes sand smooth and the aplly the final undercoat and then the top coat will look nice. Gerard.
Hey Teal, I noticed that while you where insde the first sugerscoop, theres an plastic outlet and the plastic ones i find, i remove them because from the uv radiation ftom the sun, the plastic gets brittile over time and you only need to bump it and it crumles. i would ether take it out or replace it with a ssteel one. inspect it anyway because if its doing nothing then i would remove it and it will make the work area easy. Gerard.
Nice work Teal. Really clean. Have you kept a record on how many gallons of epoxy you have used? The Gougeon Brothers owe you a kickback :-) Thanks for sharing.
Must say again excellent eye for detail you can work on my boat anytime brother What a wicked web we weave to keep our boat in the sleeve and not on the cuff LOL Reef Runner out
If it were me, I would have seriously considered ripping out that top shelf in the port side sugar scoop and rebuilding it. A LOT less sanding and repairs?
Hello Teal, What type of rollers/covers are you using? I find it difficult to find ones that don't come apart, like the foam type. Yours seem to do very well. I've had good luck with Glasscoaters, but they come in large diameters. I like the small ones you use.
Hey Tim! We have been asked a lot of what products we use with our rebuild so we updated our amazon page to let you know what products we use and how to get them. Plus, when you use our link when buying from Amazon, they kick us a few pennies towards our cruising kitty. Cheers friend! www.amazon.com/shop/onboardlifestyle
Another nice neat job just as I would expect. I am curious if you considered using Carbon in any area just for the security of the added strength. Stay safe.
Yes. For instance, where is the strength coming from on that particular pontoon. Say, another boat drags down on you and strikes that sugar scoop? Or worse, forward near midships or the bow? I'm sure it will be fine, I just don't understand yet how it does it. You're all doing great work. IAn inspiration.
Great as always. Curious why you are so picky on the glass fabric when you are just going to cover it up and you will never see it at all. That’s a tremendous amount of time for something that you won’t see and adds no extra benefit. Should I be that picky about this when I’m Laing glass?
Thanks T.J., the reason behind this is because this area will be utilized and we don't want to get snagged on a fiberglass shard or burr when going in and out barefoot. Those cause nasty cuts that irritate and infect your skin.
Well sir, being fairly new to your site I have been wondering just what was in those "sugar scoops" originally! Were there engines in them? I noticed the outboard hanging on the transom, so is that the New propulsion system or just temporary? It seems like you are really going the extra mile in order to make those scoops "look" good, but for what? I know, lots of dumb questions for a newby, but I am really interested!
I'm curious, is there some advantage to fairing and painting inside the locker? Like does it protect the fibreglass and resin from moisture or something? Cause it certainly seems like a lot of extra work, time and money.
Epoxy can break down with UV over time so it's always a good idea to protect it with a barrier coat. Plus, we will be using those lockers for storage and will be in and out of them daily so it will be nice to have a smooth clean interior.
What type of epoxy resin are you using that you do not have to seal it to cure. Some resins cure aerobically (open air) and some are anaerobic (closed air; gel coat or wax)???
Goes from “I got three layers to do” then says “all I have todo is fair sand and paint. Fire has been lit. The bush is burning and I can feel the flame threw the screen. Watch the young one, her attitude says a lot about what happens behind closed doors. Lol. Best of luck, don’t cheat yourself out of a good project with so little left todo.
Teal, what is your REAL timeline on finishing this boat so that you three can go do some SAILING? Your daughter will be in College by the time you're actually done. Cheers
Time & effort into these none viewable areas, just incredible.
Good to see it coming along. Lots of work. Most folks don't know how much it really takes to build a boat!
You don't even know the half of it! Lol Thanks for sticking with us!
Teal, it is inspirational to watch the time and effort you happily apply to your work. Thank you.
Thanks B.A. Andy!

Your attention to detail is an inspiration for my own jobs! Thanks for sharing. 👍👍 Cheers
I really like the way you add those radius inside corners, it really makes the finished job look great.
Wow such detail on structural non-seen areas...I'm amazed...

Teal ...the Bob Ross of fiberglass. "Just kind of nibble em in" . 👍
" And here we have some happy little epoxy, and remember yer mistakes are learning, and now more happy little fiberglass" said the boat bob rosss
Another great episode and teals perfection surpasses the likes of Lagoon and the other manufactures looking forward to the next episode
Freaking great work, Dude! You will be so happy you put this effort in.
Wonderful, fabulous, inspiring work. Thank you.
Thanks RF dinesen!

Figure the weather has not been fun for y’all this last week. Hoping all is well.

another episode filled with knowledge:) also you must not have knee problems yet, cause you are making crawling in and out that hole look easy
Great work Teal. All that hard work will be worth it i'm sure. Cheers from the UK
Excellent work guys ,my favourite sailing program by far .Teal what’s your background?
Another great job!
Another great Episode, thanks!!
Kicked Kick Kick!!
I had to laugh at Linh's comment about it being cold.
Awesome work! So much patience to details. Thank you
Just Beautiful Work‼️👍👍⛵️ Vinny 🇺🇸

When the ratio “likes vs dislikes” gets to 297:0, you can be sure you’re on to something good! Thanks for another “Teal quality” clip!
And now there are 3 dissatisfied sad sacks who think everyone should be as miserable and mean as they are...
Nice work Teal. Really clean. Have you kept a record on how many gallons of epoxy you have used? The Gougeon Brothers owe you a kickback :-)
Thanks for sharing.
I kept getting the feeling that at any minute Daniel Striped Tiger or Mr McFeely the postman would pop into view at the hatch cover..
Pay attention to the fine detail in the prepation stage and you will be pleased at the finnish.
Gerard.
Must say again excellent eye for detail you can work on my boat anytime brother What a wicked web we weave to keep our boat in the sleeve and not on the cuff LOL Reef Runner out
I forgot to mention that's what them credit cards are best for spreading epoxy Not debt LOL take care brother
And we haven't heard anything from Emma's blog by the way I guess she's been busy
We'll be back on Emma's videos soon now that Linh is onboard full time. :-)
Hi guys.
Jumping ahead - what are your plans for a shakedown/testing of all systems before Trip 1? A couple of weeks around the lake?
Much Appreciated! Thank you!
Hi you guys. Haven't seen you in a while. I found this video. Was wondering what rollers you use. This helped. Miss you all. When are you launching?
Interesting video, good job. I was wondering if the Catamaran crowd ever called the sugar scoop storage area "lazarette"?
Hi Teal, hope you are feeling better. I'd be worried about fumes from the epoxy and paints working in closed spaces. How do you deal with that?
This is my ASMR(sp?) Teal hand sanding in an echo filled hole. Love it!! Can you whisper to the camera while you are down there? jk
If it were me, I would have seriously considered ripping out that top shelf in the port side sugar scoop and rebuilding it. A LOT less sanding and repairs?

@@OnboardLifestyle Thanks, I'm going to use your link to try out some of those pink roller covers you were using.

Is this a "self build". Are there plans for this boat?
The old Adage ! You can't make a purse out of a pig's year !! Well I guess after Teal that's a lot of Baloney!!!
Where would you purchase your Nida-core from in the Seattle area? I'm trying to get some shipped to Alaska for my galley refit.
We purchased our NidaCore at a boat auction, but you can get something similar from a different manufacturer. www.fiberlay.com/store.php?startrow=0
Teal, why are you wearing Emma's hat ? ;)
She lets me once in awhile 😜
At 6:40 - was that OSB??? Or just some exposed plywood layer?
No, its not OSB, just exposed marine plywood.
What type of epoxy resin are you using that you do not have to seal it to cure. Some resins cure aerobically (open air) and some are anaerobic (closed air; gel coat or wax)???
We use West System Epoxy. Always. Love this stuff. Works awesome.
How do you decide what weight cloth to use?
Goes from “I got three layers to do” then says “all I have todo is fair sand and paint. Fire has been lit. The bush is burning and I can feel the flame threw the screen. how do you breath with no gas mask
Why doesn’t anyone use polyester resins? Seems everyone uses the West system epoxy
I am gonna guess, at 6’ 3” tall, I wouldn’t enjoy being in those scoops!
Lol!
How come you remove the out board. I follow many other live aboard and yours is the only one I see not permanently installed in place.
Teal, what is your REAL timeline on finishing this boat so that you three can go do some SAILING? Your daughter will be in College by the time you're actually done. Cheers
Real time is we are cutting the docklines in a few months.......or Linh and Emma may throw me overboard. ;-) Seriously, though this Spring. Cheers
Sorry BUT all this fiberglass work is getting REAL Boring ...... gonna go take a nap Lol
