I tinted my own car this week and I just did the rear glass today, with only the information I got from a youtube short. I ended up with one crease, and it was from going too fast and swiping too much at once. I slowed down and the next three corners went much better. Gila film from oreillys, dawn dish soap, a folding razor blade, and a lodge cast iron pan scraper. For using the absolute worst components I was actually surprised with how well my first try was.
I’m just getting started tinting, and I’ve been using Lexen. I’ve been trying to learn how to heat shrink and I’ve been watching your videos and been wondering “what am I doing wrong??” This helped me out TREMENDOUSLY!!
I have been using Lexen Koolmax for the past 15 cars and it’s been good to me but I was doing a model Y windshield today and it gave me the 1/4 circles right in the middle 🤦♂️just need to practice more ig
I like the way you break things down to make it easy to understand.Thats why you are top on on TH-cam and the tint game.Thank you for all the videos and live feed.Keep up the good work.
I have been using lexan for about five years you are absolutely correct when it comes to a difficult back window I go back with my original product Solar Gard or I order lexan Kool Max Supreme great video it reminded me that I'm not the only one out here struggling with the lexan shrinking problems
I have been using the Lexen Premium Nano Carbon for about 3 months now and was always having problems. But honestly, I kept watching your shrinking method and haven't had a problem since. Just following your shrinking advice set me free and I lay it down smooth and quick now.
I bought NR from Tint Depot, and did both of my vehicles and it was all good. But just getting the technique down was a pain in the rear. And I found out the hard way of using a soft card or felt card is the best way to get the tint to lay down. I did the rear windows multiple times due to creases.. Thank you for the video's and giving us diy people the confidence to do it on our own.
Your absolutely right I am a beginner tinter who started with lexon film and i agree if your not experienced with shrinking front or back windshields this film Will definitely give you a harder time what I would recommend now for those who still want to save money on film is buy lexon and a better quality film like the one he talks about and only use that film for back and front windshields while you use lexon on doors and ext 👍 great video
I worked at a tint shop back in the day and I think each brand of film has their own shrinking characteristics. Unfortunately we switched brands a lot for reasons like glue failure, color inconstancy, bad film, or pushy reps. Not going to say manufactures but the big ones we all know. It was a pain back then because we had to re-learn the film each time we switched. Nowadays film has gotten better but as Matt says in so many words, time is money.
Hey man! I really like your videos and been following you for years now. I've been working with Lexen (between other films) and I've tried almost all their lines. I've noticed the same exact problem with the basic carbon they have. A little harder to shrink for sure. The one step higher Puremax line is a lot better for shrinking and also looks better. Also their ceramic lines are really easy to shrink
When we train with this type of film I leave a little extra material top and bottom and we do what we call steering the film. Start by not doing an H pattern then grab the excess film near the lower/upper side edge and steer it from center to outer edge. Lexen shrinks slow but it'll lay flat if you follow this method. Common problem is not familiarizing yourself with different types of film. Your memory doesn't adapt quickly to new type of film if you use the same film consistently.
oh my god ..im so glad u made this vid...we've been trying to shrink this Motoshield ceramic tint which seemed like forever. This is supposed to be decent quality and we paid abt $200 for it. The film is pretty flmsy, it either doesnt shrink or melts. And mind it we're beginners. We worked on it for 2 whole sundays..and still havent gotten it right
Got my C2 Carbon yesterday. Did a full ranger today. It’s nice to work with! Thanks for supplying! Waiting on my felt cards, glass aid and clay. Can’t wait for it to get here. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you so much brother! You really are helping sooo many people out! I went to tinting school in Jacksonville two years ago but have just been tinting rv windows inside. So it’s flat glass. But a pain in the ass as far as cutting goes. I want to go back to shrinking and tinting class A RV windshields. I think that’s where the money is at. A huge window and hopefully it’s not to hard for one guy to tackle alone. I rv around the country full time and since day one I wanted to only offer the best of the best. I only buy geosheild pro nano ceramic. This makes me feel so much better. In tinting school I could shrink some of the easier back windows with no problem. But the more curved ones gave me trouble and I never mastered them. But now I’m thinking it could have been the cheap tint they use. Haha I’m hoping it was. Cause rv windshields are huge but look easy enough. And I love shrinking. It’s kind of therapeutic for me. Weird?! I don’t know. But I’m excited to get back to it. I guess the best way is to offer a FREE tint job to a lucky class A Rv owner. To practice. Thanks a bunch man.
I totally agree lexen is a difficult tint to shrink but I believe if you would’ve applied heat underneath the film. while shrinking towards the end would have improved speed of shrinking the film
I’ll have to try it out, I’ve heard it recommended more since the shrinking issues so I’m glad some people mention it. Most just say lexen and then people run into this mess cuz they wouldn’t know the difference.
I was wondering why I was having problems lol. What should I switch to I have probably like 2k worth of lexen. The most complicated rear window I ran into was a 07 mazdaspeed 6 probably shrank it like 3 times. Wish I found this video a year ago. 😪
I did my 1st tint job on my car today. I went through 10 feet of film to only do my back windows 😂😂 That schit kept creasing. I see I didn't shrink enough
Use a heat gun with heat control, I deal down the heat. Also you can only heat up and down. Do your H pattern and make the lines go up and down...The Yellow cheap gun has no heat control. A heat control gun will keep you from burning your tint when shrinking film..I own a window tint shop ..
I use a glove with shrinking back glasses with dryer sheet. Then I hard card it down. Probably could save time and eliminate the glove but after 10 years I've found that I make fewer mistakes and waste less material.
totally agreed i got recommended of using lexan and when it time to shrink the back i always burnt the end making me start over now i need to see what else i can use!
Woww i am a beginner tinter can I be using Lexen film and the whole time I thought it was me. Sometimes I get it right but some cars is just a headache with corners
A well explained video on "shrinking" but the title is about tinting a windshield which includes the equally (if not more) important installation on the inside.
I’ve been watching your videos on heat shrinking back and front glass. I did not see you use any soap for wet shrink or dryer sheet for dry shrink. Did you use either of them
Where can I buy the tool you use for shrinking ? And what’s it called ? I just order tools for tint depot and couldn’t find anything that look like it on the website. Thanks you
You 100% correct about this shrinking situation on lexen carbon but theres ceramic film are like koolmax megamax are really good and they don’t even turn purple. They shrink like butter. I don’t use carbon

When I told a pro some years ago that I had some issues with stuff like this when DIYing that was the first thing he told me. Are you using the cheapest film available? I'm like yeah. Boom he goes. Good quality films don't do that. It's harder to learn on terrible film
I been using lexen for about 5 years now yes I agree with you 100% pretty hard to shrink but other than that it’s a pretty solid film I have had it on my personal car for 6 years and no color fading bubbles or anything . I mean once you get used to the film it’s 💯💯💯
I just ruined two packs of film from Walmart. I just can't seem to get it to shrink and lay down. I keep getting creeses and wrinkles and curling the corners etc. what are your thoughts on the tint Walmart carries? Is it difficult to shrink to a back windshield? What is the easiest tint to apply to the back glass for an absolute noob?
Quick question, so I’m using madico ceramic film I’m doing the dryer sheet method to shrink should I try it completely dry to shrink cause I keep getting little creases here and there
I tried tinting a few times and have the cheaper Lexen film.. had the same problem. Was my first time ever but I was able to do all side windows. The curved rear glass had me super frustrated though, just couldn't shrink it correctly.
Don't kno if you're familiar with a 93 cougar back window but I can say its got its own challenges, its almost 5 ft wide but only 10 in tall and I've wasted a few sheets of film trying it out myself, of course its my car and its the first time I tried shrinking film, didn't think until now that it may be the film itself
I was quoted six hundred for ceramic tint and 349 for some inexpensive brand non ceramic I own a crown victoria which is difficult to tint and they wanted me to wait 3 hours for my car✌️
I want to tint the rear windows of my car by myself, however I obviously don't need a 100ft roll of tint... Can anyone recommend a smaller roll suitable for a one off home project like that?
This is what happened to me. Tried shrinking the rear windshield about 10 times with Lexen, had it wrinkle bad at the last corner. Finally I cut the tint into 6" strips and laid it down. One day I'll redo it with better tint
I have a 2008 Chrysler 300 that i want to tint this is my first time to your channel where would i begin? I bought a couple if rolls of gila film for my back windows. 5 percent but im looking for a good film thats not going to give me too much problems im kinda leery bcos im not to good at cutting and lining things up properly i was never good at arts and crafts lol so i could use all the help i can get thanks
Bought avery ceramic any tips when working with this film? Had a tint shop use my roll to do a mazda3 hatch rear glass and they couldnt get it to shrink... so I'm not too sure if its the installers/me or the film itself.
If a tinter is able to shrink a charger back window with lexen, would you say they are pretty experienced? Since it seems to be a more difficult film to use
yep. I've been using suntek cxp and it for sure bunches up and causes issues. if you don't share the film perfectly then that excess really messes everything up
