- In this video we discuss the strength of certain line bred traits such as black night, tangerine, and bold stripe. We demonstrate the effects of generational breeding over time and how it can cause line bred traits to act dominant / recessive in appearance to new breeders.

Awesome videos! Just started learning about breeding leopard geckos and some words/definition useds are a bit confusing but learned a lot thru your vids 🙏 you said that tangerine have a strong gene from years and years of line breeding so just wanna ask if I pair up WY eclipse (mostly white body with hint of yellow/brown) to blood tremper het eclipse will the babies have a high chance to produce WY with solid tangerine lines/shades?
youll most likely get light orange babies unless both parents have high orange, but yeh when you throw WY in there even a 50% tang can throw amazing oranges sometimes! :D
Is polygenic the same as line?
So polygenetic means that the animals have many different genes that take part in what makes them look the way they do. For example in humans skin color has almost 400 different genes that contribute to us looking the way we do. Let's translate that to something like black nights, they might have dozens or hundreds of genes that contribute to making them that dark.
Linebreding can refer to 2 different things. One, breeding animals that are from the same family lineage such as cousins, brothers, sisters, etc, related geckos. Or it can mean breeding geckos that are not related but look the same for example the different lines of Tangerine are in theory all from different projects and sources but they accomplish the same thing, orange coloration.
Oftentimes in leopard geckos we do use the terms trait breeding, linebreeding, inbreeding and polygenetic breeding interchangeably 😊
