Great to hear! Takeaway is such a key part of the swing because when you get it wrong everything else is off.

thanks for the great video! driving the shoulder blade down makes me feel like my head is moving forward/leaning forward, anything i can do to help with this?

The reality is the turn on the backswing is both a rotation of the trunk to the right and a tilt of the trunk to the left. You basically have to keep match the increate in the rotation with an increase in tilt to maintain the overall trunk at the same relative inclination to the ground that you had at setup. So the left shoulder blade going down is really part of the tilt to the left that happens as the same time. If you over tilt relative to the rotation, the head will be too left on the face on view. If you under tilt the head will move too much to the right. So the objective is to get the right balance - match the incremental increate in left with with the increase in rotation to the right and then the head stays more or less stable with those combined motions. If you have never tilted left as you rotate right it will feel and be different. If you have to have us look at your swing on video check out the online swing review program at altaview.golf. Thanks for the question.

can you explain the transition of the takeaway to the top of the backswing? the takeaway has no arm and hand manipulation, but after, what is needed to get to the perfect top of backswing? are you supposed to hinge, rotate forearms, raise arms, etc?

The biggest item that helps our students is you need to feel the hands to AWAY from the ball and down the right side of the body around the top of the swing (clockwise for the right handed golfer) and not across the body and closer to the ball. We have a number of other videos on the channel that discuss this clockwise transition motion. For example check out this video for some more details on right arm motion around the transition and coming down. th-cam.com/video/aTUzjnEcp0A/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for watching!

@@AltaViewGolf That's NOT what he asked. He asked how you get from the takeaway to the top of the backswing, NOT how you get from the top of the backswing to the downswing. I have the same question because the movement looks unnatural.

@@salihalexanderesq.4084 fair enough - generally we like to see the trail elbow stay in front of the trunk and it is the trunk rotation that provides the hand depth to the swing. We have a video queued up for the channel that talking about the use of the trail side arm infraspinatus muscle to have the elbow stay in front and have trail upper arm externally rotate.

Thanks for the comment - hope you find other videos on the channel to be of help to you. We have found that just getting the swing started right has such a huge impact on everything that follows that we've done a number of videos on the good takeaway thoughts and technique.

Left shoulder down, right shoulder up, is a tilt, not a turn
Tilting shoulders, means hips have to slide.. classic Stack and Tilt

Sorry that we didn't express this very well - we aren't suggesting that you change shoulder tilt beyond maintaining what tilt you have at setup. We have a lot of students that struggle with being too horizontal on the takeaway and the left arm really rotates the club too much clockwise too soon which brings it way too inside. But you're right - we didn't make it clear that having shoulders go under the address plane isn't great either as it leads to a slide. We find the middle ground - maintaining that spine tile and shoulders more or less square to that spine tilt is a great place to be and that didn't come across. Appreciate the feedback!

The late Rick McCord explained it best, IMO
