So... he's in the same category as Bill Walton: they got to show their excellence, got hindered in their career and fell short even if they won several championships.
On another note, I think people don't take into account how much the death of his father affected him. It's the kind of thing that shatters your attitude towards life and the sport. The decisions he and his entourage made are directly linked to it.

    • @11DowningStreet

nah, they're not the same. iirc walton had a couple good years in 77 and 78 with an MVP, fmvp and a ring, but after he got injured he never returned to his MVP form and ended up as a role player. kawhi's still one of the best players, and still a superstar when healthy but keeps getting injured. kawhi's in his own league

The Lakers and Clippers at the time didn’t have enough and weren’t willing to give up their useful pieces for someone they viewed as a risk.
AND Toronto wasn’t a bottom of the barrel team and his deal still allowed him to leave after a year. At the end of the NBA is a business, and saying that that trade was a punishment is like saying giving someone a Dodge Charger when they wanted a Mustang is a punishment.

Kawhi legacy and accomplishment is great and amazing!. He defeated the superstars like lebron, Curry and KD all of them in their prime!!! The worst is just how he is trying to end is career.
It's more on cobtracts now than winning for him. It's understandable. You cannot feed rings to your family.

Kawhi probably would get much more slander if he was a more vocal player. But at this point, him sitting out due to injury or load management is just to be expected.

Kawhi to me is slightly better then KD. He’s just hurt too often.
He doesn’t care about individual accolades, he only cares about his team winning. I’ve seen so many games where Kawhi either has 30+ or close to a triple double in the 3rd quarter where if the game isn’t close he doesn’t play the 4th chasing stats.
Also I believe he messed up going to the Clippers… all he needed was to sign a 1 year deal with the Raptors and we would’ve gotten Lakers vs Raptors in 2020. Since Raptors has a better team and Kawhi wouldn’t have to deal with Pandemic PG
2021 Kawhi was phenomenal but was playing extra hard since for some reason the Clippers were stupid I’m never getting him and PG a point guard until Westbrook in 2023

Kawhi still has 2x DPOY’s . And 2x FMVP’s . And his Chips being against Steph and James will probably maintain his legacy. It will be kinda like Zeke being left off the dream team.

I mean, he did beat Curry in the finals, but the Raptors would have easily lost that series if KD played, or even if Klay didn't get hurt. And it definitely didn't help Steph that their bench was horrendous.

People act like injuries to NBA players are impossible to understand. PG13’s leg injury is GRUESOME to watch and the fact he’s recovered as well as he has is amazing, not a reason for ridicule. His performance as Playoff P is though because gawdamn.
But Kawhi’s got an inflammatory knee injury that gets worse with use. It’s going to bother him forever, just like it would for any normal person. He isn’t super human. But he gets degraded for failing to BE super human. That’s fuckin nuts.

For me personaly Kawhi is the biggest what if. Not D Rose not T Mac not Grant Hill. Kawhi could have easily been top 10 all time if not for the injuries like he would absolutely contend for a title in 17,18,21,22,23,24 if heathy and realistically could have had 1-3 more chips...

Kawhi started his career as a blue collar, worked his way from projected role player to top 75 nd he was just riddled with injuries. Not to tear them down but Harden and Westbrook will most likely have played longer than Kawhi and combined don't math Kawhi's 2 rings just to gage his greatness. Yes, u met the first Kawhi Leonard fan.
