    Kev! I've got a cool idea you should do: You should build a budget rc car, like less than £70. And make it go as fast as possible, or maybe an rc car from all unused parts in your workshop

      Thats impossible for less than £70

    Hey Kev! Have you ever thought about bead lock rims for the 100mph build? Instead of gluing, you can screw lock the tire bead to the rim

  • @Bourdaga
    @Bourdaga 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Put a small spoiler over the front wheels to keep the front end down.

  • @mph_5593
    @mph_5593 3 ปีที่แล้ว +59

    You need to sand/scuff up the groove on the rim so the glue has more “bite” to the rim. Try that too.

    • @circus1236
      @circus1236 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And possibly crosshatch

    • @ubjmruther3381
      @ubjmruther3381 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      also make sure you are cleaning the tire rubber gluing surface with acetone or alcohol. I'm not sure if you are still gluing your own belts in the tires but at that speed balance of the tire is important if your belts are causing an out of balance, they'll rip off the rim no matter what you do.

    • @DUBYA-DUBYA
      @DUBYA-DUBYA 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wouldnt hurt to scuff the tire itself also.

    • @dahgman3225
      @dahgman3225 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, go round the area to glue with a fine grit sandpaper, exactly what I would suggest Kev, different directions as well, gives the glue more area to hold on

  • @Pablo668
    @Pablo668 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    I’m thinking scuffing up the rim where the tire sits to give the glue something to hold on too. Definitely need some down force up front too, to keep it down. Looked awesome at speed though.

    • @jessekuipers05
      @jessekuipers05 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True he should put the spoiler in the front. I hit 180 kmpu whit my slash whit the spoiler in the front and it workt perfectlie

    Very much enjoy your channel! Here are a few things I’d try if this was my project. I’m not sure any of these ideas will work but...1. Beadlock wheels! 2. A less aggressive tire on the rear and maybe even slip the rear diff a little to put a 70/30ish power ratio to the front. Both to help keep the front down. 3. A small front wing to generate some aero downforce. I’ll enjoy watching the evolution of this project. Good luck!!

    • @DirtyRC101
      @DirtyRC101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I was wondering, if adding downforce to the front, will it not dig itself down even more into the grass?

  • @benwainwright8458
    @benwainwright8458 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Take the wing off the back . I got a 4s mega conversion that does 70 mph on a 20T pinion . The wing is lifting the front. Good luck

    • @KevinTalbotTV
      @KevinTalbotTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the wing is flat its not giving any downforce

    • @JerBoyd42
      @JerBoyd42 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Even if there's no downforce, the turbulence that develops at such a high speed around an off-road wing will create a lot of drag. Since that drag is above the ground where the thrust is generated, it will lift the front wheels up.

  • @badrums
    @badrums 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Best Kev, you should try bigger tires!
    Bigger tires means less rpm on the wheels for a given speed compared to a smaller tire. That combined with a bigger radius means that the tire will get less centrifugal force, and thereof not break as easyly.
    You should try truggy tires for example. Lower profile tires would be better than larger profile tires too. And if you skip the foam inserts, the centrifugal forces between the rim and the tire will be smaller too.
    (I'm a mechanical engineer).

    My tip, and it somwthing ive been doing for the past decades. Allways sand the rim, and tire ( rotating sand drum,dremel rough one ) , clean with brakecleaner, and i allways allways use the pinoneer in CA, the Loctite 406, thats my tip. Godluck Kev, can bearly wait to the 100mph mark been crushed ❤❤❤

  • @digiprez77
    @digiprez77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have always found it tricky to re-glue tires effectively, especially on old rims... What helps a lot is after I am done I lay the wheels down and run an extra bead or two (or three!) of glue right along the edges of the rims on both sides where they meet the tires. Helps the tires keep their proper shape and adds another point of adhesion to increase the overall strength. If you do it right and fill in the whole gap and then some you will tear a sidewall before the tire comes off. It can be a bit messy-looking depending how careful you are, but it works.

    fishing line on every groove not just 2, take tyres off, clean with solvents, use sand paper to key both edges first (tyres and rims) then you want a rubber cement of some kind, do it properly, the rubber will break before the joint.

    • @derrickwilliams2903
      @derrickwilliams2903 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the problem with that is it would be difficult to get a good balance on the wheels with shoe goo. At lower speeds, maybe not a big deal, but at 80-100mph, they may self-destruct.

    You could use proline short course tires on beadlocks, they won't get off as easy as glued ones get.
    Also, they are smaller, so you will get less clearance and a lower cog, and your car will be less likely to wheelie

    Maybe go up on tire size to give you more roll out just a thought. I think you have so much torque on your mid to upper rpm range is why the tires are blowing off on you so maybe a larger diameter tire will solve the problem. Plus prep and cleaning of both the new tires and wheels before mounting. Maybe try bead locks find some light weight aluminum type. Wish I could help more Kevin keep up what your doing I enjoy almost all of your videos.

  • @traviswilliams3209
    @traviswilliams3209 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Use the bucket soak with acetone on those tires and let them dry for a bit before you try and glue again, they have probably absorbed water and it's getting worked out when you drive it, hydraulically forcing the glue bond to break on a tiny level. The acetone will replace the water and then fully evaporate like the water can't, you could also try heating them up in a toaster oven around 120 for an hour

    Hey Kev you should really try to get a hold of a cyanoacrylate superglue like some e6000 clean it up really good and a glue like that should literally weld the rubber to the plaatic. I would almost guess that if you pulled the tire apart it would rip the tire before the bead came off.

    Sand the rim and the tyre bead, so the glue has something to old onto. I’d also consider gluing the foam inserts to the wheel, to help preventing them from ballooning and putting excess stress on the glue that’s holding the tyre to the rim 💁🏽‍♂️ Best Of Luck 🤞

  • @andyturnbull
    @andyturnbull 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you need to try a front wing.
    Thicker front diff oil.
    Can you get beadlock rims in buggy size?
    Try gluing a circular piece to the wheel face and tyre sidewall.
    Try using a dremel to scuff the bead and tyre before gluing.
    Maybe over drive the front diff like in our crawlers.

  • @GarethTalbot

    It’s been awhile since I’ve done anything with RC but the centrifugal force that gets created between the tire and the room when you’re going that fast, that would explain why they keep coming unglued. Most glues (I believe) will let go when the get hot enough. If one is available try a good hi temperature glue. Aside from centrifugal force you also have heat being generated.

  • @kerrysoden2623
    @kerrysoden2623 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Don't forget that if you have a foam inner in the tyre as well it's going to expand with the higher wheel speed. Putting more pressure on the glued outer.
    2. What about putting a wing on the front shock mounts to keep the nose from lifting?
    3. Final point. I noticed that every time the wheels lift off the ground is when you get the most tyre expansion. Check the video, the moment the car lifts a wheel, the tyre loses shape.Maybe the secret to get the speed run, is to keep them on the ground. ie Stop lifting tyres

  • @mariondiewald282
    @mariondiewald282 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could use some sandpaper and go over the wheel and the rubber and then reglue it👍 That will may help you. It helps with normal glueing, not sure if it does help for those tires.

    gluing tires!!! make sure you clean both the tire and the rim (i use rubbing alcohol). you might need to use sandpaper or something to get the old crap off the rim and tire before cleaning them. sometimes if your tire glue is old or been in too much heat it won't stick as good... it usually looks kinda cloudy when it's bad (in the US my best luck is AKA tire glue).

    Beadlocks? Not just for off-road....any big tire drag car uses them.

    • @BobMonkeypimp
      @BobMonkeypimp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering the same but I don't know if there's a beadlock wheel that size (can't be bothered to look), plus beadlocks are heavier & have more rotational mass. I thought perhaps epoxy instead of superglue.

    • @benjaminsmith1455
      @benjaminsmith1455 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly what I keep thinking every single time!!!! He's gonna have to manufacture some bead locks because the terrain is just ripping them off at that speed. I don't see any other way to do it

    • @guerrillaradio9953
      @guerrillaradio9953 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really not the terrain. That pales in comparison to the centrifugal forces of the insane wheel speeds. Full-sized off road trucks and drag cars use beadlocks mainly because they use low air pressures in the tires to increase contact patch and grip. Well, drag cars also do it to use the spring like action of wrinkle wall slicks, and insane wheel speeds also. This is a decent analog of use case.

    I usually use a adhesive for model airplane tires for faster cars or something that melts and bonds the two pieces together like model car glue or you might want to check ( belted tires for RC ) those resist ballooning I don't know if they will work on your model but it is various styles to choose from

    Hi Kev great vid try removing the wing, as your not cornering the wing is not needed, when it reaches a certain speed the wing will be causing you more drag slowing it down. Possibly try to make the front tyres a lot thinner than the rears if that’s possible. Al large best dude.

    Perhaps you could find some braided fishing line (instead of monofilament) and drill approximately 10 holes in the rim and “lace” the tire to the rim. After “lacing the tire” you could then apply the fishing line around the tire in the manner that you have been doing. I believe you will find braided fishing line much easier than monofilament to work with.

    Use AKA Tires tire glue. Its by far the absolute end all be all solution for the super glue world. I use it on everything from it's intended use of glueing up rc car tires to plastic modeling to automotive use . Infact a fella came into my shop with a cut tire on his ford f250 truck. We used the aka tire glue on it , let the glue set for 10 minutes aired up the tire to 50psi and he was able to drive the 35 miles home without loosing air. I have also reglued broken parts over and over with the aka that was originally glued with another brand and the aka is still holding.

    You should look into rc crawler wheels. They are metal beadlocks. That would keep the tires from coming off, and add a little bit of weight so it wouldn't wheely so much. Then you could get grip and go faster.

    Jason Dearden answered a question about selling Hoons (?) tires and rims separately. He said " no they are too difficult to glue properly and safely". So I guess it could be a similar issue with the Proline you are using.

    Have you tried to dial in the ESC at all? I would turn the punch down and add timing if you can on that ESC. The punch will help with pulling the front wheels and timing can add speed where it's needed. You can also add some weight to the front to try and help keep the front wheels down. It was common place to add a pound or two to the front of Modded X01s

    Hi Kev. Just a suggestion give contact foam 1/8 buggy wheels a go on grass.
    I've hit 44.8mph with them on 3s on grass so far with my HoBao hyper vs.

    If u wanna glue tyres well silicon adhesive works well
    Use sicker 11 fc that’s what I used and it still hasn’t blown off the rim

    Tires always never stay glued once you rip them off. The acetone could still be in the pores of the plastic and dissolving the glue as well

    I’ve had lots of 8th scale tires come unglued mostly because I didn’t do a thorough enough job of cleaning the bead. And once they come unglued once it’s hard to keep the tires on the rim because every time they come unglued you have to dremel off all the dried glue off the bead and rubber that’s still stuck to the rim. But I agree you would be better off starting over. I’m also thinking it’s because you’re using more power than those tires can handle

    Hey, Kev maybe you could somehow screw these tires on the rims. Maybe in a way the srews act as spikes...

      This isnt a bad idea, they small self tappers through the tyre into the wheel. You'll need to balance them after but you should be doing that anyway for the speeds you're trying to reach.

      (!) Don't try this. At extreme high speeds the screws might come off as deadly projectiles going up to double of the car speed. The thin rim is not enough to hold up to these scews' centrifugal forces.

    Kev get some sikaflex 221 or tiger seal to bond the tyres on
    Make sure you let it go off properly (24hrs) and be careful as it’s messy and a nightmare to get off
    The tyres won’t come off trust me 😂👍🏻

    i reckon that you need to make some sort of off road wheelie bar and a windsplitter for the front to keep the front down
