Hey great stuff. So I'm new to fishing just started about 3 months ago and I came across your video and listen to everything thing you said. I thank you from the bottom of my heart because I just caught 2 redfish 38inch and 36 inch. I was so excited because I caught them back to back. I really appreciate your video and advice. Thanks a lot....for being my first big fishes I was really excited. Thank you again.
I'm a novice Salt Water fisherman, however, glad you stressed the importance of catch and release fishing to protect the fish of optimum breeding capability. When I lived up North in freshwater, the same premise with Muskie, Northern, Walleye, and S.M and L.M. bass. It's important when fishing fresh or saltwater. Mounts are a cool memento of a prized fish, however, replica mounts are just as cool as a real one and you help protect the optimum breeders in the process. This video was extremely helpful and gave me some good ideas and a few things to refine the next time I'm in the Corpus Christi area. Thanks a ton! TIght lines.
As an old five and dimer that always wanted to learn how to fish at the coast, I can honestly tell you how much my son and I enjoyed this tube. So many people take it for granted people know how to do the leaders and such, but no, we don't. We're in San Antonio, so the tips on places around port a and cc are much appreciated. Would enjoy more tubes on how to fish for other type fish also. Many thanks from an old dog that learned some new tricks. (The knot is the easiest i've ever seen. )
Great video and tips. Although we didn't fish from shore we did use some of the tips you showed here and caught five mid thirties fish our first time out and had a ball. Thank you for the great video!!
Love bull reds. We just went this weekend south Louisiana. I use 100# braid. 8 hook and 6 once weight. And I use a whole mullet for bait. Got a 38" and a 35" this weekend. Me and the wife. It's always so fun to catch the big ones.
I live here in Titusville, FL(Space Coast) and the bull reds are huge here. Along with the Black Drum to. We use mullet head as cut bait to. Do you use mullet head as cut bait?
Thank you for such an informative and straight forward video. Can you tell me exactly what rig, line, swivel, bait, etc., you were using to catch that red at 13:50?
the knot you used to tie your hook is called a knotless knot and agreed it is one of the strongest connections no friction or weak points ! good video btw
This is awesome I fished my 1st tournament using a medium rod with a 2 oz egg sinker and circle hook before I saw this vid and I did it not knowing much since I’m fairly new to fishing well I ended up catching a 26 1/2 red and came in 4th place. I did not use a leader as I just placed the braid inside the egg sinker but I have a tournament coming up and plan to use this new method hopefully place top 3! I will never use anything bigger than a medium rod as I love the fight and bull reds is as big a species I plan too catch .
I go fishing at my local intercoastal an I use 10 ib braid with a 1 ounce weight an I haven't found an exact size hook I like just yet but I mainly fish for whiting, blues an reds that are around average size I do get some snapper that I keep.
I've had bull's spit out those circle hooks to many times but manage to have better luck w kahle hooks. What is ur take on the pros and cons of a kahle?
Thanks! I either hook them through the tall, up through the mouth, or through the eyes. Change it up depending on what they are hitting. And yes big chunks of cut bait to keep the hard head off the bait
You can snell being attached. There are several ways. I keep it off the swivel because honestly; who wants to snell a hook whilst the lines on the rod already lol. Good video.
Very good informational video however, for your redfish leader setup, do you cast out just as you described without a float? If you do use a float, what is the distance I should put it from my setup?
Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Can you teach newbie fishing enthusiasts how to read the beach and figure out best spots for fishing in one of your videos. That's one of the difficulties that we face while fishing. Thanks
I applaud you for sharing your hook tie technique and this video. In kayak fishing, how long is your carolina-rigged leader and where do you hook a live shrimp? I enjoy and appreciate your videos, especially in kayak fishing.
+kix 1981 ahh it depends. Usually 12" is sufficient. The line attached to the weight you don't want to be strong line, that way if the weight gets caught on a rock it will break off but you will still have your fish
Nice video bro i stay n thr Pensacola area my bigges problem is hard head cat FISH like i use a 1oz sinker to str8 line n a j hook but them dang catfish just want stay away
thats a sign its time to find a new spot to fish. typically when the hardheads are biting nonstop then your probably have too much fresh water in that area.
Hey man awesome video! In Galveston where is this best place to surf fish? I’m going 10/4. I also have light tackle only and will use 2oz weight with cut bait.
I went surf fishing for the first time. I was using big penn setups but couldn't cast past 50 feet at best and all kept going far to the right instead of straight. What am I doing wrong?
+Texas Redfish Hunter well the conditions are usually water with a bit of a current and its is in destin Florida , I wish where the bay connects to the gulf
+BloodSweatnBassOutside well the "run" is only from late october through November where they are caught in numbers. But you can catch them year round. They make the run back in early spring, but its not as easy a bite. There is no summer "run" but they still can be caught
once u cast how long do u have ur bait in the water ... when is the bait in the water for too long and how often do u check it or is it a set it and forget it type deal
How is the red fishing in August? We are planning a trip last weekend in July and first of August. Is it still worth it or should we wait until October?
I need some advice, I went to that exact spot last night with a friend but every cast we made our lines got hung up in the rocks, it was the most frustrating fishing experience I've ever had. I tried basically the same setup but with a premade rig, but lost all of those. I then used just a hook and some split shot but again I got hung up every time, I probably cut half the line off my rod. How you you keep from getting snagged on the rocks??
couple of questions.. do you think the run is over (curious how recent this catch was), and do you look for certain conditions or do you just tend to focus on getting started in the early morning and adapt to conditions? btw, it's unfortunate but many do not respect the breeding stock, glad you keep saying that though..
The peak is definitely behind us, however the recent cold front set them off again! I always get excited for the first cold front of the year, as that's when they really get started running. I like an outgoing tide and right at first light as that's when they are feeding heaviest. And it always kills me when people keep them, especially when they are not tagged...
How come everyone always uses those types of reels? I'm not experienced when it comes to bull red fishing. I use the open face style reels. Penn and Abu Garcia, would those work as well?

Thanks for the 13:50 time stamp I really appreciate youtubers that do that. I watched the whole video anyway and dropped a like.
New saltwater fisherman here. I found what I've been doing wrong and some great tips! Appreciate it! See yall on the south Texas water yall

Love the knot .. like for the knots. knots
Best tutorial I've seen so far. I live in the corpus Christ area and this helped a lot. Thanks a bunch
TheMinecraftBROS Wow...so lucky...you got some of the best fishing in Texas
voltron512 I actually went today and caught a red 😆
Sweet...so so many places to fish out there. Don't even need a boat in Port A
I want to go tomorrow
I live here in Titusville, FL(Space Coast) and the bull reds are huge here. Along with the Black Drum to. We use mullet head as cut bait to. Do you use mullet head as cut bait?
Love the video, very in depth. Gonna try out a lot of the things you've shown.
Great info, you answered all my questions. Going to TCD this Friday. Keep up the great vid.
I never watch whole videos like this one but this one was awesome
Awesome video man. Greet info, excellent concise delivery. Thank you!
Thank you for such an informative and straight forward video. Can you tell me exactly what rig, line, swivel, bait, etc., you were using to catch that red at 13:50?
the knot you used to tie your hook is called a knotless knot and agreed it is one of the strongest connections no friction or weak points ! good video btw
awesome advice!!! your video has taught so much already, trying the techniques out this weekend....thank you very much and keep them coming!!
good luck!
Love the Conservation emphasis & good tips , good job !!
Great video..Great for beginners like myself..definitely going to try your techniques!
texas redfish Hunter your videos are awesome

Need a bead between sliding sinker & swivel. Helps cut down on sinker smashing into knot. Great vids!
yeah that's a good point
I fish at the Jetties at South Padre Island.
Dylan Garcia eii me too can’t wait for this bull red season
Too awesome!!! Thanks for this info! The fish that eludes me, RED BULL!!!!
Ps. We use steel plastic coated leters with metal clamps. Where we fish there's tons of black tip amd they just cut the mono
Finally found what i was trying to find. Thanks Man!
Great video👍!Thanks for all the tips. Were Port A bound next week to the jettys....again.
great vid!! the Bull Red had you dancing and you had Cora dancing! haha!! tight lines bro!!
Thanks for the info, keep them coming. It's almost time for the reds!! 😜👍🏻🎣
hey man kool video. thanks for the info on how to set up a red fish reg
I've had bull's spit out those circle hooks to many times but manage to have better luck w kahle hooks. What is ur take on the pros and cons of a kahle?
nice! very informative and entertainin. when you use live mullet how do you hook it? also for cut bait do you use a peice big enough to hide the hook?
Thanks! I either hook them through the tall, up through the mouth, or through the eyes. Change it up depending on what they are hitting. And yes big chunks of cut bait to keep the hard head off the bait
Thank you very much for the useful information! Tell me the brand and serial number of the hook you use in this video?
You can snell being attached. There are several ways. I keep it off the swivel because honestly; who wants to snell a hook whilst the lines on the rod already lol. Good video.
I like that knot, never seen that before.
What are the best times to go mornings and evenings? And best baits to use? Crab and mullet ?
Good catch great release
Very good informational video however, for your redfish leader setup, do you cast out just as you described without a float? If you do use a float, what is the distance I should put it from my setup?
Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Can you teach newbie fishing enthusiasts how to read the beach and figure out best spots for fishing in one of your videos. That's one of the difficulties that we face while fishing. Thanks
I caught two this weekend at surfside with frozen shrimp. Didn’t expect that
Will using a 12" wire cable tracer deter reds from taking the bait? I'm trying to prevent cutoffs if a shark picks up my redfish bait.
Awesome video sir. Uploading a new bull redfish video tonight
Any suggestions for Surfside beach? Me and the family primarily fish the surf here. Still looking for my first bull red. Catch sharks though lol.
Dude. I feel like I owe you a beer. Thanks.
On your spinfisher 3500. What kind of braid do you like to use?
Great VIDEO!
Thanks buddy
hey just want to thank you i used your tips and caught my pb 46 inch red bout pulled me in the water lol thanks
Jake Mcallister congrats man!
I applaud you for sharing your hook tie technique and this video. In kayak fishing, how long is your carolina-rigged leader and where do you hook a live shrimp? I enjoy and appreciate your videos, especially in kayak fishing.
Leader is anywhere from 12 to 18 inches, and I hook my shrimp through the horn. And there will be much more kayak fishing to come!
sweet video great advice bro fish on
thanks for the tips... just one question. on the three way swivel, how much line is ideal for the weight?
+kix 1981 40lb leader unless you're getting hung up, I'll go as high as 80lb leader
+Texas Redfish Hunter I'm sorry... I should have specified... I meant how much in length
+kix 1981 ahh it depends. Usually 12" is sufficient. The line attached to the weight you don't want to be strong line, that way if the weight gets caught on a rock it will break off but you will still have your fish
Great vid! Would you mind posting a vid showing your rig before you cast for a view of the finished product?
Thanks for the tips brother
Thanks 4 very good information.
Quick question, wouldn’t you want to go lighter braid with small reels because of the line capacity
I hit rollover pass a week ago no luck on reds but caught a few catfish.
+Survivor#357 a Good Deal Thanks
Hey man awesome video! In Galveston where is this best place to surf fish? I’m going 10/4. I also have light tackle only and will use 2oz weight with cut bait.
For carolina rig do you just use it as still fishing? No need to drag across the bottom if using live shrimp?
+VJTrey1 let the bait do its own thing
+Texas Redfish Hunter got ya! Base on your experience which rig is much effective for live shrimp the 3 way rig or carolina?
+Texas Redfish Hunter for live shrimp what size of hook should i use and where should i hook the shrimp?
I went surf fishing for the first time. I was using big penn setups but couldn't cast past 50 feet at best and all kept going far to the right instead of straight. What am I doing wrong?
Any tips for winter bull red fishing?
They stick around in the same spots during the winter, but in much less numbers. Most move much deeper
crabs are great in the winter
👍Good video , but question how big should the swivel be or does it matter?
I'm from t.c. Do you ever use beads to protect the knot on the weight end?
Excellent video
I'm a little bit of a beginner at catching redfish , and recommendations on baits , live or artificial ?
Depends on what the conditions are, but if you are a beginner I recommend just using live mullet for bull reds
+Texas Redfish Hunter well the conditions are usually water with a bit of a current and its is in destin Florida , I wish where the bay connects to the gulf
You are the man dude.... the man
Hey man awesome video helped out a lot I'm new to fishing but where was that at? What jettys?
are you fishing on the Bolivar peninsula ? I got fishing there and have yet to find reds surf fishing g
no
I'd like to know how the run during other months like spring and summertime
+BloodSweatnBassOutside well the "run" is only from late october through November where they are caught in numbers. But you can catch them year round. They make the run back in early spring, but its not as easy a bite. There is no summer "run" but they still can be caught
+Texas Redfish Hunter thanks a Bunch
dude, thanks for this video! super helpful.
Awesome video as always. You two stay safe and "Fish On" Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
+Pamela Girlfish thanks you too!
well were on our way to tx city and I was wondering if you can tell me what would be the best bait to use for the bull red
not the best time of year for bull reds, but use mullet for your best chance
i would say a live 4-8" live mullet or a larger mullets head... or crab is good too
once u cast how long do u have ur bait in the water ... when is the bait in the water for too long and how often do u check it or is it a set it and forget it type deal
I'm constantly checking bait and putting fresh bait on the hook if I'm bull Red fishing. Fresh bait is important.
What type lines are you using there on the spool and table?
OK, do you know where in Louisiana you can catch those Bull Reds?
I'm from Colorado but visiting port aransas and am only catching catfish but this helped
how long will the sinker line would be? Thanks
doesn't need to be very long, maybe a foot
Is that mono or fluoro for your leader
mono
Texas Redfish Hunter awsome. Thanks for the reply. I stay in houston and fish the dike also. Already subscribed. Great videos 👍
If I cut open the live mullet what part would I put on the hook ?
any part
+Texas Redfish Hunter is it better go put it alive or dead ?
movie
Hi Bro,
What fish can you expect in July & Aug at Moses Lake and Texas City Dike?
Black Drum probably the mostly likely
is September a kinda good time of year to fish for reds?
bulls will just start school up usually
+Texas Redfish Hunter u can catch year round too just big schools in the fall. March and April the big black drum with stack up there too
Do you ever fish on the bay side of San Luis grass flats?
every time i go fishing there where you at i get stock lost lots of hooks and weights how far do you throw your line..
A good rule i follow is throw at least 30 ft if possible
what bait were you using to catch the bull redfish cut or live mullet?
both
Texas Redfish Hunter I'll like to see how you set your line
Texas Redfish Hunter more videos how you set your line
How is the red fishing in August? We are planning a trip last weekend in July and first of August. Is it still worth it or should we wait until October?
do you ever tie your braid strait to mono leader
When I fish for slots, but never for bulls
Awesome dude...
Love it
Thanks!
I need some advice, I went to that exact spot last night with a friend but every cast we made our lines got hung up in the rocks, it was the most frustrating fishing experience I've ever had. I then used just a hook and some split shot but again I got hung up every time, I probably cut half the line off my rod. How you you keep from getting snagged on the rocks??
can you use croaker as cut bait for bull reds?
Great information!
nice catch bro any specific spots you know of for South padre?
No I don't fish down there very much, but the beach front will hold some big fish this time of year
Hey man, how do you fish the Carolina rig? Or do you just let it sit
let it sit, the bait does the work
couple of questions.. do you think the run is over (curious how recent this catch was), and do you look for certain conditions or do you just tend to focus on getting started in the early morning and adapt to conditions? btw, it's unfortunate but many do not respect the breeding stock, glad you keep saying that though..

Would you have any spots for Rockport ?
you ever catch any outta matagorda?
yeah, solid fish in matagorda
Subscribed! Let me know if yall ever head towards Freeport! We can go hit up Churchill
Inshore Addicts spent many school days fishing at surfside haha
Well done brother.
Very helpful thanks.👍
Does this work in Florida. In Jacksonville. And do blue crabs work ?
Yes and Yes
would a 3000 daiwa bg with 15lb braid work ok on a bridge?
You should be fine as long as there is no rocks near you
How come everyone always uses those types of reels? I'm not experienced when it comes to bull red fishing. I use the open face style reels. Penn and Abu Garcia, would those work as well?
Yep those are good too
Rod holder advice on a jetty?
use pvc and jam it between the rocks
What size of hook in your light tackle?
+VJTrey1 3/0 is as low as I'd go for bull reds
+Texas Redfish Hunter but can i also use 5/0?
+VJTrey1 yeah you can
