  • Coney Island
    Coming down from Downpatrick
Stopping off at St. John's Point
    Out all day birdwatching
    And the craic was good
    Stopped off at Strangford Lough
    Early in the morning
    Drove through Shrigley taking pictures
    And on to Killyleagh
Stopped off for Sunday papers at the
Lecale District, just before Coney Island
On and on, over the hill to Ardglass
In the jamjar, autumn sunshine, magnificent
    And all shining through
Stop off at Ardglass for a couple of jars of
Mussels and some potted herrings in case
    We get famished before dinner
On and on, over the hill and the craic is good
    Heading towards Coney Island
I look at the side of your face as the sunlight comes
Streaming through the window in the autumn sunshine
And all the time going to Coney Island I'm thinking,
Wouldn't it be great if it was like this all the time.

Yes it would but that would be such a rare happening, it would be like winning the lottery of our world

“If you can articulate pain you can heal from it.” Understand this is what Van’s lyrics do for me. I suppose his calming voice beautifully “lifts me up, carry’s me through”.
I was given the gift of a compilation of Van songs done by assorted artists by an old love of mine. I absolutely love all of Van’s music, his voice, but I truly do cherish a few of the songs from that compilation. One in particular is sung acapella (sp) by Elvis Costello …think it may be named Always Return to the Lord. Had it played at my Moms funeral. Another is the song Crazy Love sung by Cassandra Wilson. that an artist played solo at my daughters wedding. The young guitarist learned the song from listening to the 💿 cd. Thirdly from that compilation of Mr Morrison’s songs is Coney Island that Liam Nesson narrated. While listening I’m transported along that drive right with him. Just beautiful !! Van is the King of the Slipstream 👏🌊🍂🌈🍀🥂

Oh, but that hearty laugh is everything! His heart is filled with the beauty of his home turf and in his sharing, we are all blessed to be there, at home...☘️💚

Great stuff. But can we make something clear. Van is talking about Coney Island, County Down, Ireland. "A Coney Island of the Mind" is a book of poems published in 1958 and written by American poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti. And, although the book isn't really about any geographical place, the title refers to Coney Island, New York and its famous amusement park. At the beginning of his book, Ferlinghetti explains that he got the title from a Henry Miller story called "Into the Night Life".

@@jasminemckinney9804 Ok, makes sense. Thanks. I have corrected that. Much closer to Belfast anyway. Not sure why I thought it was Sligo. Anyway, definitely not New York.

He's just a bloke that writes songs and sings with honesty and integrity.
I never much liked VM until I heard Scandinavia on the radio while driving in the dark one night to see my newborn daughter at the hospital.
I thought how amazing is this music and was really surprised to find out it was VM.
That was a nice way to discover him and his music that became part of me since 1981.
    Thank you.
