    No problem, I figured I'd help Tim out with yalls mice problem lol since he helped me with the purchase of his supercharger back in September. He's a good dude. Will certainly be using some of them hi-perf MLS head gaskets that you're talking about real soon.

    This happens because the lifter trays wear out and the lifter starts to turn in the tray and hats what causes the lifters to fail and ruin the cam at the same time. Always install new trays.

      Ken, if it was a head bolt hole, it goes through and ends up in the pushrod/lifter bucket area. This could definitely be a problem. Unfortunately we cannot attach photos on here, but feel free to give our tech line a call and they can walk you through where it could possible lead. I've done dozens of heads and never had leaks or fails from using the roloc brisle discs to clean aluminum and iron blocks and heads. Not to say it's best, but unless you cut deep to try to get rid of any corroded grooves, it is not a problem. The problem is when people clean too much.

    Is there a such thing as using the wrong head gasket cause I installed some and now I got white smoke at startup and hesitation on my 2007 Ls I need help!!

    • @TuRnErBeArS09
      @TuRnErBeArS09 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea you can definitely use the wrong gasket. Gaskets are vehicle specific.

    • @GarageGurus
      @GarageGurus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The head gaskets are directional (front to back).
      If installed backwards, coolant flow could be restricted. This would cause the engine to run hotter. However, we do not think leaking (both internal or external) is prevalent.
      The white smoke at start up (if antifreeze/engine coolant) could be related to a coolant leak. You could use a pressure tester on the radiator to see if there is a leak.

    What is the bolt sequence

    • @GarageGurus
      @GarageGurus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keith, you can find the sequence at www.fme-cat.com/torqueTableWindow.aspx?a=56342&s=922. It is the same for all the LS engines but we did not know if you are using stock head bolts or ARP bolts so the torque specs may not be right.

    Why do we use aluminum heads today if they're so delicate?

    • @GarageGurus
      @GarageGurus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Manufacturers use aluminum heads for the benefits of weight savings and heat distribution. Aluminum is a better conductor of heat and allow manufacturers to run higher compression ratios which make the engine more efficient.

    There are two types of bolts which one goes where

    • @GarageGurus
      @GarageGurus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The longer head bolts (early design) are for 2004 and back engines. The shorter design head bolts are for 2004 and later. Always best to check the catalog for the correct bolt set.

    You did not explain why the bolts cannot be reused.

    • @GarageGurus
      @GarageGurus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The LS engines use a T-T-Y (Torque to Yield) head bolt. In a nutshell, this bolt (once torqued) is only able to be used one time. So any time the cylinder heads come off, the bolts need to be replaced.
      A torque to yield fastener (TTY) or stretch bolt is mounting hardware in the form of a fastener which is torqued beyond the state of elasticity and therefore undergoes deformation, causing it to become permanently elongated. Once removed, the bolt will need to be replaced.

    • @SamuelSilva-go8ix
