  • Today Kevin finally wraps up the Classic Malts Collection from Diageo with the Lagavulin 16 year!!! Lagavulin is one of the quintessential Islay Scotches that is part of the blending for Johnnie Walker. The distiller has been around for a very long time and is probably the most recognized name in Islay Scotch...especially for Parks & Recs fans! This is a very solid Islay Scotch but I think the Nick Offerman edition was actually a better whisky!! Cheers!

$199 with taxes Canadian and it's my favourite peated scotch! This was my gateway into peated scotch and I adore it. Ardbeg and Laphroaig along with Kilchomen are all fabulous! I love the core expressions! The Lagavulin 8 is less expensive and a bit rough around the edges but it's definitely worth trying! I savour this scotch! The Offerman Charred expression is amazing and the Distiller's Edition is wonderful! The flavours are outstanding to me! I love sipping a couple of drams of this beauty!! I never add water. Every palette is different! I find Lagavulin exquisite, classy, complex and very delicious! I love the Ardbeg Ten, the UIG and the Coreyvreckan for a higher ABV! For $90 a bottle I'd buy a case! I buy at $200.00!! Yes let it breathe! 20 minutes for sure! Love Talisker as well but I prefer more peat. However for the maritime notes I do enjoy Talisker! Briney which I can't get enough of! The latest 12 aged in Tequila isn't a fave and at over $200 in Vancouver I have passed on that one based on many reviews! But this one is spectacular!! Lagavulin 16 is sophisticated and nuanced! Great video! Interesting! Cheers! 🙂

For Islay I prefer the Port Charlotte over most anything else. The Offerman was great and I enjoyed the few Octomores I have tried. I liked Ardbeg over Laphroaig. I'm guessing that I didn't let it open up enough AND I don't think the small bottle helped it at all. Going to keep looking for other releases...this didn't turn me off of Lagavulin just wasn't what I had hoped.

@@ExploringWhiskey I also love the Port Charlotte, Offerman editions, especially the third (didn't love the Guiness), Distiller's Edition - Lagavulin. I also adore Ardbeg. I find Lagavulin elegant, sophisticated and refined. I think a bigger bottle to explore helps! Just my opinion. I think the Octomores are delicious. But Lagavulin holds a huge place in my heart. I find a lot more ash that you do but I have spent a lot of time with this expression. Oh! I prefer this scotch without water - most actually! Cheers! 🙂The price is worth it for me - I'd grab two cases if I could get Lagavulin 16 for $90 each!! The Lagavulin 12s have been amazing - pricey and worth it (I'd skip the 2023 with a Tequila finish - I never love a Tequila finish!) - always - to me! Favourite distillery!

Sure - the 16 is a great scotch. Very singular. But at over $200 CDN per bottle (around 117 british pounds), no thank you. There is much better value to be found in other bottles.
