Living as an expat in HK (being one of the top expensive cities in the world), is depressing. For a 500 square foot apartment RENT ONLY , it cost between US$1K to 2K. Your total grand price for living in a paradise is equivalent to living in a cage home here. Looking forward to retiring in the Philippines.

Finn I've been following you by watching your videos for a couple years now and I must say you have a big heart!
You've always helped Filipinos in many ways during your adventure here in the Philippines. One example: one time in the middle of a big storm you got
stranded in a remote area and you asked this homeowner if you could just stay inside her home until the rain stopped. And when you were inside the
house you noticed water is pouring inside the house from the roof. What did you do? After a couple days you came back to the house with materials
to fix the roof! God Bless you.

Here in the US, north Texas, as a single in a 1 bedroom apartment my basic cost is around $2800. Moalboal is my goal I loved it so much when we visited last year. I can’t wait for covid to be over and I can return. Thank you for the information.

    Hi Finn
I live in Denmark. Which is not known for being a cheap country living in. The plan is retire in 2022 and move to Bohol. Looking forward to live in the province there and enjoy my life in peace. Thank you for your videos giving me an idea, how life is in your paradise.
Good health and happiness to both of you 😊

That's a good idea Nerisa. I like the way Sherlyn talks. She has a very exotic accent which makes her more attractive. Like Sophia Loren and her Italian accent; or Nigella Lawson of "Nigella Bites". Gone is the trend of previous generations where to appear sophisticated or cosmopolitan we must carry an American accent.

Currently living in Florida, USA. Paying $1550 per month in rent. Electricity averages around $150. Water $50, cable/internet $150. Bleh, I'm moving to Moalboal, well...if we are ever allowed to travel again. You and Sherlyn have a wonderful life there, never ever lose your appreciation for that.

Finn, your beautiful videos inspire me to visit the Philippines. Beautiful place and wonderful people. I grew up in Hawaii and miss ocean life. I live in California, near Sacramento and my house is over $3000 a month, $1000 in utilities, $1000 for my car, ins and gas, $1500 for food. It's crazy but I am a single father with 4 boys. I love your videos, don't stop.

While this CHANNELS focus is on ADVENTURES, SHERLYNS channel should have a different FOCUS, like maybe all the stories that occur behind the scenes😉 I'm sure U have enough DRAMA there like, finding out the dog had TICKS, strange broken power cords, or problems with internet services, these things NEED to be recorded!🤗

That made sense Finn,,overall the standard of living in Philippines depending where you want to live,, in the city or outside the city. Apart of your miscellaneous , on top of your household utility bill ,,not sure if you have mentioned the cost of electricity bills in Philippines. e:g - our winter bills here in my household is costly in contrast you are using AC? all year round in tropics. Spending in maintaining and looking after your stuff for blogging is essential worth every penny because the quality of your videos underwater is priceless. Sherlyn, we look forward to watch your blogging🙂

By the way you two are cute with same white color tops. Continue to be happy with your life even with this kind of new normal situation of the world, with Sherlyn and Jake. Stay safe and healthy. God bless you and Sherlyn. We love you Finnlyn!

We actually just made a video a couple months ago about our COL here in the Philippines in 2 locations over 1 year. (Mentioned you in it, btw) We lived on Panglao island and in Butuan City for 6 months each. Very accurate numbers were...
    Panglao - $1,001.20 USD
    Butuan - $913.53 USD
    Average/mo - $957.36 USD

$380 if it’s a Canadian dollar is a rent here for a small room only, big rooms are expensive. But your computation is in US dollars, there in the Philippines with what you are paying for rent is way better because it’s for the whole house and it’s a big decent house.

All I’m going to say is the average rent currently here in Los Angeles is $2,500. Factor in car payment, gas, insurance, cable $100+, phone $100+, food, necessities, dining out regularly (COVID, so take out), entertainment, and if you love beer & whiskey like I do... then it requires a hefty budget. Haha! Traveling globally at least once or twice a year for two weeks, plus a one week trip of snowboarding annually (in the states or abroad)... the budget list just keeps on going. But such is life! Life is short, so enjoy while you can. But always live within your means!

Healthy lifestyle living in the province paradise. (less expensive, no stress, no pollution) Save some money for emergency use. Better have own property (house) than rental. expenditures > income = no good! Must have some other source of income. What if the “mermaid queen of the ocean” starts to shine again and show her talents?! Go Shery, don’t be shy! you are playful & creative. Building a core strong by helping each other. Blessed weekend lovely couple. 💕🕊✨💫

Go sherlyn....!and be the ocean ambassador you should be....
You tube is the best platform for you to share your passion and advocacy..
It is definitely for a good cause....and a great medium to reach out to as many people as you can....and from all the walks of life...people like us can't do much...but if we can have you to represent our behalf....then we..,the whole women population will back you up for sure success..
Maybe that is why GOD put there...
    To enjoy your individuality....
and give back and touch people's life at the same time....
Especially at hard times like this....

    • @johnriddell6950

      Hey Sherlyn:
Just tell us about your life there....
And the cost of going to college....
      Your assignments....
      If you have some hobby's....
      If you like to cook.....
      Or just your daily activities.
But, maybe you do not like.
      Maybe your shy.
      I do not know.
No need to force you to blog if you not like it.
But, from a guys point of view...
Of coz, it is nice for a women, life partner, soulmate, and/Or girlfriend to also help with the cost of living and share expenses as a couple. To ones ability to earn or pitch in.
Does not have to be equal or half.
It should not only be one person's shoulder/money.
Or only a one way street.
One thing left out is maybe in your guys budget and or cost of living is savings and investing....not only spending money but to also save cut cost and grow money....and invest.
One thing you guys could do is maybe offer you knowledge and skills and host tourist and guide them. Or start a non-profit organization. Land, guest house, and offer tours become host and guides.

G'day Finn. Interesting post. Here in Melbourne, Aus, our expenses on a monthly basis (including annual costs like car rego and insurance) come to approx. $5,000. I've come to the conclusion that my superannuation at retirement (still at least 15 years away) will not be enough to live comfortably on without government support. Therefore retiring in the Philippines is a very attractive alternative. My wife is from Sultan Kudarat, Mindanao so makes it a bit easier to do. In the mean time we'll continue to visit this wonderful country. Keep up the great work.

Wow gud am guys hello finlyn very reasonable computation of expenses and income for two people but for me counting your expenses basing on whats your income per month is pointless because your resourses are not permanent nevertheless its good to know your expenses and not going overboard or spending beyond your means of income. That's a great analysis and its good so that youcan control your expenses and at least people can see that foreigners are also experiencing difficulties living here in the Philippines. Regarding Shey doing vlog why not, continue shey find a content that u are happy doing it and make it more enjoyable not only helping somebody but most of all to yourself content, dont do it if u are only oblige be happy and joyous in doing any endeavor. Keep safe and be healthy always God Speed both of you.

I like the way you say "Moal-boal", like Mall Ball. Lol. I remember my dad told the reason why it's called Moal-boal is because of the underwater springs. You'll notice this while swimming in basdyot or basdako when you suddenly encounter pockets of cold water. Anyways, the locals calls this "bukal bukal" and from there it somehow changed to Moal-boal.

Hey thanks Finn and Sherlyn for the breakdown as I would like to spend some time over there as well, so good to know about this. As a foreigner we cant buy a house but renting your place is very reasonable and imagine an apartment would be even cheaper. It is expensive in Australia but most people are almost finished paying off or own a house at my age as opposed to renting. The rent here is about $600 per week and you could add another $500 for all the other typical expenses so $4,400.00 ($3212 US) for middle class living per month. (The AUD compared to the USD is less our $1.00 buys $0.73 US). Like many I'm looking to retire in a tropical climate and loved the Philippines when I visited and it is within reach for sure. During Covid i have watch many VBlogs (yourself, Tim K, BecomingFilipino, making it happen, Meljean &Tom and a few more all showcasing the beautiful country and its people.
Stay safe Sherlyn and Finn and just remember Jake is 100 times cheaper than a child lol

Orange County California our cost of living for 4.
    Housing $3000/mo
Fixed monthly bills. $900/mo includes electric, water, trash, gas, cellphones, car insurance and internet
    Car payments. $600
    Food. $1200 includes restaurants
Miscellaneous. $1000 no gasoline because cars are all electric.
Anyone want to move to California?
My wife is Filipina and I have been nagging her for us to move to the Philippines for a more relaxed less expensive life. Hopefully after our son graduates in 1.5 years.

Thanks Finn for asking us to suggest Sherlyn to vblog. To help the expenses, she needs to produce too. As what we were suggesting before, she has to continue vlogging. Her contents before were good. Why not do a reaction to beauty pageants in the Phil. The latest was the Ms. Philippines, do a tour vblog in nearby towns like in Samboan water falls, Aguinid and Hidden falls. Any road trips in the South and North is a good one. Separate vblog from her is always welcome. A perspective from a woman like her Finn

Sherlyn you should check out cooking video vlog or day in my life Korean/Japan version (where they don't show their face or talk a lot). You seem to be a shy type and doing that kind of vlog might not get you as much follower but it would really open a new trend in the PH. Even if it's simple I'll would follow you, since I am from Mindanao, and we have somewhat of a similar cooking dish. My mom wants us to move back to PH after being here (US) for 15 years. I've been trying to find daily vlog by Filipino to get the feel of being Filipino again. Also I think you should open your CC so that foreigner can translate it in their language to expand your audience.

Sherlyn you have to be more productive of your life. Never rely to anyone for support. It is great to be independent. You will be surprised what you can do. You have potential, just be confident of your self. Do something while you are young. Don't let time pass you by.

Don’t lived beyond your means, just be comfortable and happy...Enjoy life and help others if we can...🥰👍🙏

50k per month yes, it depends where you live. But if you have monthly mortgage for car and house there's nothing big difference. Added that you have to pay utility bills and of course extra money for hobbies.

In the U.S usually you can find apartment for rent $950, utility $500(wifi, water, eletricity), monthly food $600, and considering the prices you showed here it's EXPENSIVE to live in the Phillipines.

How about owning a permanent house and lot, there are a lot of affordable lot in the province of cebu, resort business in bantayan island cebu, living a paradise doesnt have to be expensive, own a property, cook your own food, choose local market instead super markets, own a car, there are more options to live a simple life in cebu.

That's why the president made true of his promise to add a new major telco if the duopoly won't straighten up. Hope the new one will be good. They have until December to improve their service. Application for new telco tower has been simplified and made faster. Hope to see improvement next year.

Hey Finn and Sherlyn, Thanks for sharing cost of living there in my home country. I haven’t been back since 2016. PLDT is the worst. Back in 1984 I applied for a phone line and we got it in 1993 or 1994! I feel your pain. May your stay in Moal Boal be a blessed one! More power to you!

For me this is ok ,depending on your cost of living. But, as of now you’re residing in the province I think you can do lower on it to 25K/ month.A lot of money you can save on this, try this & I know Sherlyn knows on this, how to budget your daily needs👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️Kaya na ninyo salig lang barato ang saging ug mais pede na unya naa ginamos oi lami kayo gastos lang mo cguro 10K/month inya ytan lang permi.Daghan pa sustansya ug vitamins unya fresh pa hyud inyong isda kay gilid lang sa dagat.Ayos ma datu gyud mo diha basta mag daginot gyud sa gastos.❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍

Just a tip Finn. Stop spending too much on gear repairs. Invest on a good dehumidification/dry cabinet. Moisture and humidity is the #1 cause of equipment damage specially on cameras and lenses. Final rinse ur waterproof gears with distilled/natural water after use. Pack some bulk dessicants into your bags/luggages with ur gears. Look for alternative repair shops for your gears, don't go directly to ur brand's repair center coz they usually charge you high. There are a lot of repair shops everywhere in 🇵🇭, search on FB and look for their ratings/review.
