While you know as much Italian as I do, it doesn't matter; it's HOW it's sung what makes the difference.
Pavarotti brings the ultimate emotions out in everyone, whatever genre they relate to normally.
If you aren't a blubbering wreck at the end of this - you have no soul.

I remeber listening to Caruso and Nessun Dorma when my then 4 or 5 year old daughter started crying uncontrollably. When I asked her what was wrong she just said "Stop it mommy. Stop. It's too beautiful", tears streaming down her face. I didn't expect that reaction but I do understand it

Pavarotti had a once in a century voice. I was lucky to see him live in Napoli in the 1990's. Amazing. That is the region he is singing about... the beautiful sea on an old terrace over the Gulf of Sorrento. The song is about the opera singer (Enrico Caruso), after a difficult life and leaving Italy for America, he returns, and is with his love in his home in his beloved Napoli.
    The chorus is:
    I love you very much
But very, very good, you know
    It's a chain now
That melts the blood inside the veins, you know

Bless your heart, I cried with you. Isn't his voice the most beautiful you've ever heard? My grandmother & mother used to play opera all the time & Luciano Pavarotti was always the #1 hit in our home. His voice can make anyone feel emotional & you don't even know why. He touches the very soul. I loved this reaction. You must hear La Donna È Mobile. Although I don't speak a lick of Italian, I know every single word because I grew up on listening to Opera. This is the translated text:
    Here where the sea shines,
    And the wind blows strong
    On an old terrace
In front of the Gulf of Sorrento
    A man hugs a girl,
    After she had cried
    Then he clears his throat,
    And the singing begins again.
    I love you so much,
But so very well you know
    is a chain now,
That melts the blood inside the veins you know.
He saw the lights in the middle of the sea,
He thought of the nights there in America
But it was only the lamps
In the white wake of a propeller
She felt the pain in the music,
She got up from the piano
But when he saw the moon come out of a cloud
Even death seemed sweeter to him
He looked the girl in the eye,
Those green eyes like the sea
Then suddenly a tear came out,
And he thought he was drowning
    I love you so much,
But so very well you know
    is a chain now,
That melts the blood inside the veins, you know
    Power of opera,
Where every drama is a fake
What with a little makeup and facial expressions
    You can become another
But two eyes that look at you
    So close and true
    Make you forget the words,
    They confuse thoughts
    So everything becomes small,
Even the nights there in America
You turn around and see your life
Like the wake of a propeller
But yes, it's life that ends,
But he didn't think much about it
    Indeed he already felt happy,
    And he resumed his song
    I love you so much,
But so very well you know
    is a chain now,
That melts the blood inside the veins, you know

You hear the sorrow in the song. The story is about the famous opera singer Enrico Caruso. At the height of his career, Caruso learned he was dying. In this song, he is telling his wife of two years that their time is running out. She is crying and he is telling her how much he loves her. The song was written by Lucia Dalla.

You are so precious! Your reaction is exactly what Opera will do to you. He was the Master and is singing with the angels now. I was blessed to be able to go to his last live concert and he absolutely had the entire stadium in tears. May God rest his precious soul until one day we will get to hear him sing in heaven.

There is a version with english lyrics. Also listen to Vesta La Gruibba - if you cried with Caruso, you aint seen nothing yet. This one also has english lyrics.
