My favorite band! I'm 68 years old and I saw their concert in 1972 and I was 17. I still get chills when I listen to this song! The best era for music! I love seeing young people like you reacting to classic rock! Congratulations to you!
"Child In Time" gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, It's that good. Ian Gillans voice is ridiculous belting them notes out and slowing down with soul. John Lord beating on the keyboards like it owes him money, Ritchie shredding on that beautiful Gibson ES-335, Paice on drums, and Glover on bass makes one hell of a band. Great reaction, your facial reaction to Ian Gillian's voice on them high notes was priceless. 👍
There was a reason why one music magazine writer called Ian Gillan the (paraphrasing here) 'Golden Throat of Rock 'n' Roll'. This is why. Ian used to be able to belt out those screams easily, night after night. Unfortunately, he's no longer able to perform this song. The toll of years has worn out his throat. Jon Lord was one of the best keyboardists in rock. His distinctive sound came from plugging that Hammond B3 organ into a Marshall amplifier stack. Ritchie Blackmore was, and still is, a fantastic guitarist and has influenced many people to learn guitar. Ian Paice (pronounced like 'Pace') is one of the best drummers in rock history (and one of my main influences as a young drummer back in the day). Roger Glover is the fantastic bassist you see here. This was the 'Mark II' version of Deep Purple, and by far the best version of the group. Glad you got the chance to hear them!
Aaliyah !!.... i cant put into words how happy i am you are finally going to discover the voice of IAN GILLAN!!... this is basically a timeless masterpiece and ian gillan voice is out of this world while singing live !!!!!!

I knew you would love this song. It a Masterpiece for all generations. Every member of Deep Purple II was a virtuoso of their instruments, they could play more than just heave Rock and even performed a Concerto for Group and Orchestra, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. Jon Lord organist Wrote the Concerto... P.S I also enjoyed your singing at the start.
The studio version from Purple in Rock is sublime. Features possibly Blackmore’s best studio solo. No one could play guitar like that in 1969 but Ritchie. Amazing dynamics .. skilful edge of mayhem performance. Ian Gillan’s scream is uniquely beautiful/searing … No band sounded like Purple in their prime. Best live rock band.
I saw them at Cal Jam 1 in 1974 and Led Zepplin at the Forum in 1975. No comparison. Deep Purple was the most talented, loudest band I have ever heard. (And I have been in a small club with Metallica) Ian Gilliam is so much more talented singer. Robert Plant sounded like a wounded cat for most of the cocnert.
I love when people hearing DP for the first time get to Ian's falsetto section and show surprise, and I'm thinking, "wait for it." Gillan was the best scream-singer ever, imo. Great reaction, Aaliyah. It's a pleasure to watch your reactions.

Had the privilege to see Deep Purple live in the early eighties. When they played this song, I was blown away by Ian Gillian’s vocals. He was in his forties by then, but he hadn’t lost any vocal power. I didn’t know until then that he was the voice of Jesus on the original brown colored album “Jesus Christ Superstar “ that predated the motion picture. Ian really demonstrates those powerful vocals in that musical.
@@AaliyahCapili Thank you for the video. You’re enthusiasm is infectious. I’d like to suggest my favorite sad song for your reaction. “Everybody Hurts” by the band REM. It brings tears to my eyes, but it’s cathartic.

Every member of the band was a top class artist. Try to listen to their famous live albums from that time period. Musically they were truly amazing and they had a perfect lead singer.
Man, i can only imagine hearing this for the 1st time. I have been listening to this song probably 50 times now and it still sends chills down my spine every single time.

I love watching young people being impressed with the music that was created and performed live before their parents were born. It's a good feeling seeing great music being shared and appreciated.
The song is great gig in the sky .. literally meaning heaven. It’s broke down into three parts the first is her going through death so she screams a lot . The second is when she comes to peace and excepts her death. The third is when she is welcomed into heaven . It’s a great song
Great reaction Aaliyah! I was waiting for the ricochet... it didn't disappoint! So surprising right? Ian's voice is amazing. Every time I hear that, I am surprised, even though I know it is coming.
I too, an old guy from Canada, with a kid about your age who has heard it all, you keep going girl, broaden your horizons, live, love, learn. My suggestion, just to take you into another zone, would be Tort Elvis doing A Whole Lotta Love, Elvis meets Led Zep in a Regge beat, and then some, good tunes, and an amazing voice, check it out :)
First time I watched your reaction. It happens to be one of my favourite DP songs as I grew up when their music was hitting the airwaves. I am pleased that you gave it the thumbs up and I was waiting for your reaction when the high belt notes from Ian started! They are ALL rock gods, and certainly pioneers in the rock world! Hope many more generations can, and will enjoy their tunes!!
And this was bloody 1970. It's still metal as hell, I can't imagine how it felt at the time. And most studio effects helping with singing had not yet been invented yet, and this was live, albeit in TV studio.
Also one of my favourite bands along with, Tull, The Who, The Moody Blues, Black Sabbath and of course the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin plus many more. Welcome to our music, I'm so pleased to see many young people embracing it. Nice reaction. 😊
I think its is so great that someone your age... can see how talented each member of the band was. The lead singer especially because there was no auto tune back in these days... And not all the little helpers that are available to guitar players today either. If you messed up on these instruments there was no way to hide it. And doing live meant the drummer better get things write or he throws everyone off. So it is so refreshing to see your reaction to music that was probably before your grandmas time lol. I was 6 when they were doing this performance and I am old enough to be your granny lol
It has been a great pleasure to see you reacting to this song. Thank you so much for doing it. Makes me believe in the young people to admire good music again. I know you are a singer student of great music too, but this so called popular rock music was, and is, full of talented musicians and singers. I suggest you to continue learning about my favorite band, Deep Purple, and discover their great songs legacy. Thank you again, watching you in this video made me so happy. Have a long and happy life.
Love your reactions Aaliyah. I grew up listening to the 90s. Knew of Deep Purple but never dived into them. Thank you for this little gift. I'll be unwrapping the sounds of this band for the very first time 😊 Loved it!!
You missed the most phenomenal 2 decades the 60's and the 70's where all this music basically started. Back then there was pretty much free reign for the bands in the studio to experiment. Bands like these guys practically wrote/constructed opus's with key changes, time signature changes. They made the songs tell entire stories. These days?? Pfft nothing but rubbish on our radios. I do however HIGHLY recommend Ayreon for example. The musicians and vocalists there are mind blowing. There are many metal heavy and otherwise bands in Europe doing stuff like this which is well worth the listen.
So glad you took my recommendation and listened to this. Ian had epic vocals, glad you enjoyed it 😀 Enjoy Deep Purple! Strange Kind of Woman Live is often another great one also from the band👍🏼
I first heard this song fifty-five years ago at the end of Purple's first American tour. The impact never diminishes. What one does is just listen not disect.
Ok, there was more frivolous music around at that time too, but this is just one example of why music meant so much to more to my generation - I just had to get a guitar and join this world and am still into it at 62. Great to see younger people appreciating it today - had to smile with the Hammond organ intro described as piano. Great stuff.
I was going to suggest you react to this video, I love watching classically trained singers react to it, the look of shock when Ian hits the first high note never disappoints. 🤣 Great reaction, really enjoyed it, keep up the good work!
This performance of "Child In Time" is probably the most impressive and heartfelt singing I have ever heard. From the first time I am astonished every time I hear it. After seeing several others react to this song, you came up with a few new points, incl. "the singer's smile". Thank you for sharing your reaction with us.
You now see why this is my favorite Deep Purple song and one of my favorite songs ever. I've loved this band for over 50 years. The members of the group were among the best at their instruments at the time. Ian Paice on drums, Ritchie Blackmore as the guitar god, Roger Glover on bass, Jon Lord on organ ans the incomparable Ian Gillan on vocals. Gillan wrote the lyrics as a Vietnam war protest song.
It was in 1996. I was 29 years old and Deep Purple gave a concert in the small town of Suhl in Thuringia, Germany, my home town. Deep Purple's line-up was Paice, Gillan, Lord, Morse and Glover . They played all the classics and at the end, as an encore, Child in Time. The 6,000 people in the hall were silent and just listened to the music until the chaos in the song began. Then everyone joined in, clapping and jumping. Epic. I still love listening to Deep Purple today. I'm 57 now and will always listen to them. One of the best bands in the world.
just take a bit and try to realize the time when this came out...and the age of it's listeners...lol....I grew up with this...lol Great react! My first time here
Jon Lord's organ is the defining sound of Deep Purple. Some people say Ian Gillan's voice. Some people say Ritchie Blackmore's guitar. But for me this band was always about Jon Lord and his Hammond organ.
my generation, my music, our parents thought we were crazy and screamed when we played these songs, our music was exceptional and these bands not only had messages to convey but their music and the musicians were at a level of perfection that few bands after them have matched, an era blessed by the gods, we are pleased that your generation appreciates our musical era 60s/70s, an italo-french fan
I began listening to Deep Purple in 1970 when they released Black Knight. I still play their songs every week. A few months after the release of Black Knight, Black Sabbath released Paranoid. Both singles were in the charts at the same time - luxury. The bands back then had some masterful musicians and singers including the above, plus Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep, Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull and many more. I still listen to them all.
At the end of the year we have a tradition here in the Netherlands to vote for your favorite music of all time and with all the votes they play the top 2000 on the radio in the last two weeks of the year. When I vote most of the time Child in Time end up nr. 1 in my list. Every member of the band is rock royalty.
Dear, just your speaking voice is AMAZING omg...Your reaction and comments were spot on.Nobody will ever have Ians voice as he was truly gifted..Something about Deep Purple and Purple songs were simply better than anyone else....Fantastic...
Everybody, I mean everybody in this iteration of Deep Purple wan an expert at their instrument (Ian Gillam's instrument, obviously, being his voice). Thanks for the video.
RIP jon lord 😢 truly amazing live performances 🙏 Ian gillan and deep purple are still performing these songs in 2024 please , try to see them live once in your life if you can
Informative reaction - thank yoU! I think this piece is masterful. Even ignoring the lyrics, my soul is transported to weirdly frightening and tragic parts of the early 70s. Hammond B3 history in rock is interesting, often played through the whirling Leslie speakers, which are still made -- sounds which are imitated in many modern keyboards.
what makes deep purple great is the same that makes led zeppelin, cream and the who great and that is that every band member is a superstar obviously the singer ian gillian is classically trained,he was the original jesus in frank lloyd webers jesus christuperstar-man y next generation metal singers look at ian as their idol and inspiration deep purple suggwstions are highway star lazy and fireball i also recommend white room by cream
It is reassuring that many of the youth of today find this 60's and 70's era music so great. This is a genre of music, that even 50 years from now will be held in awe. Back then we used the music of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc....as a means of escape. Fifty years fast forward.....I still regularly play these soundtracks with my speakers 100% volumn, looking again for that "escape". Like @billpet4602 said.....we didn't know back then we were truly experiencing the "golden age" of music..... a type of music that only comes around once in 1000 years.
Awesome to see your reaction from a fantastic band. Might want to check out the video from the band Steelheart. Name of the song is called Never Let You Go.
An all time performance by Ian Gillian and the entire band, and the crowd is stunned! Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore are just so good, taking turns on amazing solos. The song is relentless and legendary. I saw these Guys back in the day. Yes, they really are that good! Try Highway Star from their brilliant live album, Made in Japan. Utter Banger. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
This lineup is probably in the top 5 great lineups that have ever been assembled. Like Michael below said Lord is just killing those keyboards. And of course you got Blackmore just doing some really naughty things to that guitar.
I don't know if you have ever listened to RUSH but if you have not you really should. They were the best three man band in the world. I am glad to see a younger generation checking out the classic Rock and Roll that will live on forever.

Thank you very much too💕
Insane drummer skills too.
🥰😍🥰
And this was bloody 1970. It's still metal as hell, I can't imagine how it felt at the time.
And most studio effects helping with singing had not yet been invented yet, and this was live, albeit in TV studio.
They are so amazing😍
Also one of my favourite bands along with, Tull, The Who, The Moody Blues, Black Sabbath and of course the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin plus many more.
Welcome to our music, I'm so pleased to see many young people embracing it.
Nice reaction. 😊
Thanks so much🥰
Thanks for covering a great band that many people hold so dear to our hearts!👍
Thanks for watching too💕
I think its is so great that someone your age... can see how talented each member of the band was.
Oh thanks so much for sharing🥰
It has been a great pleasure to see you reacting to this song.
Thank you so much for doing it.
Makes me believe in the young people to admire good music again.
I know you are a singer student of great music too, but this so called popular rock music was, and is, full of talented musicians and singers.
I suggest you to continue learning about my favorite band, Deep Purple, and discover their great songs legacy.
Thank you again, watching you in this video made me so happy.
Have a long and happy life.
Oh wow thank you very very very much for your kind words. Much appreciated💕
Love your reactions Aaliyah. I grew up listening to the 90s. Knew of Deep Purple but never dived into them. Thank you for this little gift. I'll be unwrapping the sounds of this band for the very first time 😊 Loved it!!
Try the entire "In Rock" album or songs like Hard Lovin Man and Flight of the Rat!
and then, Machine Head!
Thank you very very much😍
So glad you took my recommendation and listened to this. Ian had epic vocals, glad you enjoyed it 😀 Enjoy Deep Purple! Strange Kind of Woman Live is often another great one also from the band👍🏼
Yes, thank you very much🥰
I first heard this song fifty-five years ago at the end of Purple's first American tour. The impact never diminishes.
What one does is just listen not disect.
🌺
Ok, there was more frivolous music around at that time too, but this is just one example of why music meant so much to more to my generation - I just had to get a guitar and join this world and am still into it at 62. Great to see younger people appreciating it today - had to smile with the Hammond organ intro described as piano. Great stuff.
🥰🥰🥰
I was going to suggest you react to this video, I love watching classically trained singers react to it, the look of shock when Ian hits the first high note never disappoints. 🤣 Great reaction, really enjoyed it, keep up the good work!
Thank you very much for sharing♥️
This performance of "Child In Time" is probably the most impressive and heartfelt singing I have ever heard. From the first time I am astonished every time I hear it. After seeing several others react to this song, you came up with a few new points, incl. "the singer's smile". Thank you for sharing your reaction with us.
Oh thanks so much
You now see why this is my favorite Deep Purple song and one of my favorite songs ever.

Thanks so much for sharing this🥰🥰🥰
I love seeing the looks on peoples' faces the first time they hear this.
😍😍😍
just take a bit and try to realize the time when this came out...and the age of it's listeners...lol....I grew up with this...lol Great react! My first time here
Hello, thanks so much for watching too, much appreciated
This singer was Jesus in Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar, got to see these guys live ,with Uriah Heep, Buddy Miles, Dr. John
😍😍😍
All these guys are absolute masters of their craft.
🥰
Jon Lord's organ is the defining sound of Deep Purple. Some people say Ian Gillan's voice. Some people say Ritchie Blackmore's guitar. But for me this band was always about Jon Lord and his Hammond organ.
🌺
my generation, my music, our parents thought we were crazy and screamed when we played these songs, our music was exceptional and these bands not only had messages to convey but their music and the musicians were at a level of perfection that few bands after them have matched, an era blessed by the gods, we are pleased that your generation appreciates our musical era 60s/70s, an italo-french fan
This is a great song from Deep Purple to react too! I'm so happy you enjoyed it, I certainly did! Thank you!
Thank you very much😍
Welcome to deep purple mark 2. Good to have you in the club. 😊
Thanks so much🥰
This is the greatest rock performance ever, period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🥰
Made in Japan is the best live album ever
I began listening to Deep Purple in 1970 when they released Black Knight. I still play their songs every week. A few months after the release of Black Knight, Black Sabbath released Paranoid. Both singles were in the charts at the same time - luxury. The bands back then had some masterful musicians and singers including the above, plus Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep, Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull and many more. I still listen to them all.

Love ure reaction when he goes higher
Thanks so much
At the end of the year we have a tradition here in the Netherlands to vote for your favorite music of all time and with all the votes they play the top 2000 on the radio in the last two weeks of the year.

Thanks so much
Everybody, I mean everybody in this iteration of Deep Purple wan an expert at their instrument (Ian Gillam's instrument, obviously, being his voice). Thanks for the video.
Thanks so much for watching too
RIP jon lord 😢 truly amazing live performances 🙏
Ian gillan and deep purple are still performing these songs in 2024 please , try to see them live once in your life if you can
Thanks for sharing🌺
Informative reaction - thank yoU! I think this piece is masterful. Even ignoring the lyrics, my soul is transported to weirdly frightening and tragic parts of the early 70s. Hammond B3 history in rock is interesting, often played through the whirling Leslie speakers, which are still made -- sounds which are imitated in many modern keyboards.
Thanks so much for sharing
I had the pleasure of seeing Deep Purple in 1985 at a very wet Knebworth House, England.
Great reaction.
Oh wow thanks for sharing
what makes deep purple great is the same that makes led zeppelin, cream and the who great and that is that every band member is a superstar
obviously the singer ian gillian is classically trained,he was the original jesus in frank lloyd webers jesus christuperstar-man y next generation metal singers look at ian as their idol and inspiration
deep purple suggwstions are highway star lazy and fireball i also recommend white room by cream
Thanks so much for sharing♥️♥️♥️
the expressions on your face made this my favorite reaction, ever
Thank you🥰
You did a wonderful job reacting and one of the best bands and best song that there ever has been
Thanks so much for your kind words💕
It sure was fun to watch you get amazed at the high belts and pause right before the even higher ones...lovely reaction, as usual
Thank you very much💕
a collection of rock legends all in one band
*One of the best songs ever & his vocals, even back then, were insane*
😍😍😍
@@AaliyahCapili 😍😘
It is reassuring that many of the youth of today find this 60's and 70's era music so great. This is a genre of music, that even 50 years from now will be held in awe. Back then we used the music of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc....as a means of escape. Fifty years fast forward.....I still regularly play these soundtracks with my speakers 100% volumn, looking again for that "escape". Like @billpet4602 said.....we didn't know back then we were truly experiencing the "golden age" of music..... a type of music that only comes around once in 1000 years.
Thank you very much for sharing🥰
Awesome to see your reaction from a fantastic band. Might want to check out the video from the band Steelheart. Name of the song is called Never Let You Go.
Thanks for sharing
Every reactionist pauses in aw at the high notes and how incredible it is and I'm setting there with a grin thinking "oh man you're in for a treat!!"
Thanks so much🥰
An all time performance by Ian Gillian and the entire band, and the crowd is stunned! Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore are just so good, taking turns on amazing solos. The song is relentless and legendary. I saw these Guys back in the day. Yes, they really are that good! Try Highway Star from their brilliant live album, Made in Japan. Utter Banger. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Thanks so much for sharing💕
@@AaliyahCapili When I saw them in a big, open air show in Hartford CT, it was loud enough to hear in New Haven! Great band, Live or Studio.
Love DP, love you...
♥️
This lineup is probably in the top 5 great lineups that have ever been assembled. Like Michael below said Lord is just killing those
keyboards. And of course you got Blackmore just doing some really naughty things to that guitar.
Thanks for sharing
So tight and on time, without a great rhythm section you are nowhere
🌺🌺🌺
I don't know if you have ever listened to RUSH but if you have not you really should. They were the best three man band in the world. I am glad to see a younger generation checking out the classic Rock and Roll that will live on forever.
Thanks for sharing♥️
