Hey all! Sorry for the delay on this. I've been focused on completing other projects while I prep for my vacation next week so things have been a bit all over the place. Good news is episodes are ready to go and will be uploaded for early access + general upload while I'm gone so new episodes next week and we will finish this series once I'm back in June!

Not sure if you noticed, since we’re getting the shorter reaction here, but Ben Linus (he’ll always be Ben to me) actually fudged the numbers for the last puppy so he saved one at least from incineration.

Looks like you didn't catch that glasses guy saved the puppy he had. It weighed less than 10 oz but he marked it down as 10.
Wilzig also lied to save 4 at the beginning. She was under 10 ounces, but he marked her down as 10.0.

The same way Wilsig didn’t get shot when he was escaping the enclave. It’s just part of the game that some guns can’t shoot right.
To be fair, Maximus had just had the superhero from his youth use him as bait, insult him, turn tail and run and then beg for help. I’d prolly also be a little stunned.
I've always placed a lot of value on consistency, and this channel certainly pulls that off.
I've heard that CX-404 (the dog) is a Belgian malinois rather than a German shepherd. She's also a female, as Wilzig says "good girl" when he's training her.
Yeah. She looks nothing like a German Shepherd. I don't know why everyone gets this wrong. I guess because in Fallout 4 Dogmeat *is* a German Shepherd.

The reason she waves the gun is because per the show runners, we often forget we have our gun out when we talk to NPCs in the game.
The three leads are so pitch perfect.
I understand why Goggins (The Ghoul) and Purnell (Lucy) steal the show, but Aaron Moten (Maximus) really acts the heck out of the least-written of the three roles.
I'm not surprised to learn that he comes from a stage drama / Shakespearean background, and now that he's absolutely dunking on "genre" acting I hope to see him in a Star Trek some day.
A lot of reactors seem to miss Wilzig saving the dog even tho they make it blatantly obvious with the weight bit and the sign (and that it's literally another person doing the incineration)... but I notice it's because they're too shellshocked by the other puppy being incinerated and/or seeing Wilzig's actor and immediately associating him with bad characters 😂

Maximus waited to take a shot because he didn't really have a good shot, and if he misses? Well, he's just a guy NOT in Power Armor, and he just watched his ideal of heroism - a Brotherhood Knight - run scared from the yao guai. I'd hesitate, too, until I was positive I had a killing shot.
Also? Not Maximus' fault: who was 'bored' and wanted 'to kill something'??? Titus didn't stick to the mission, so it's all on him.
ETA: My biggest question from episode two is: why did the Ghoul spare Maximus? You know he could have killed him, but he sort of toyed with him and let him go. He knew how to disable the suit without killing the occupant, so he could have easily probably killed him with no problem. I'm hoping for an answer better than "plot armor!". :)
The Ghoul didn't have the means to kill Maximus easily. His handgun had explosive-ish rounds, so he wouldn't be able to use his knowledge.
I also enjoy Florence + The Machine. Lungs is an amazing album!

Michael Emerson, who plays Wilzig, owns Belgin Malinois IRL. I know that Dogmeat in the games are German Shepards, but it's easier to color match the coats of Malinois, which is why they're used here.

The Enclave is what's left of the US government, and Vault-Tec is still sending updates about the status of the vaults to the US government. Being so well managed, Vaults 32 and 33 have sent in regular reports about the status of their inhabitants ... until 32 rebelled against their overseer.
I don't know if he owns one in real life, but there is an interview with him on youtube where he does say that he always ends up working with belgian mailinois dogs whenever he works with Jonathan Nolan :-) Interesting about matching the coats between the various different dogs they'll use on shows, I'd never even thought of that being a reason for using the breed.
@stephenhumphreys9149 It's the reason that Lassie was played by a male of the breed, because the females shed so often that they appear to be different dogs in each episode.
Obviously, Maximus took so long to shoot because he just witnessed his hero running from a bear like a coward. All that talk from Titus about bravery and he easily folded under pressure. I wouldn’t help him either. Dude was a douchebag

The people who helmed this show also helmed West World. Same as that show, they trust you to be smart and draw your own conclusions or pick up clues. I think you'd like West World as well
They also did another Amazon Prime show called the Peripheral (awesome show that not many people know about).
The writing is on the next level. It is leading viewers down a moral journey that teaches a lesson about coming to assumptions of good and bad. Almost every reaction I have seen has everyone on almost the same moral tones about each character and it is leading them perfectly. You don't see that too much because the writing is subpar and everything is too obvious. Fallout was the perfect vehicle to do this as the world is so messed up you need something to believe in from the start.

Wilzig saved the puppy by faking it's weight, then cared for and hid it, most of the Enclave are evil but some do rebel but maybe Wilzig is more than Enclave?
Maximus is a "Himbo", dumb but lucky, he officially has the "Idiot Savant " perk :P
Yes, there's a reason why Wilzig is delivering that chip/thingie to Moldaver. I think his connection with Moldaver is how he knows so much about Vault 33.

Not a German Shepard, She's a Belgian Malinois, different breed, they are not as smart and a bit smaller than German Shepards, but more agile and ferocious.

Belgian Malinois. Way better than a German Shepherd but very high maintenance because of their intelligence. This breed and Australian Cattle Dogs are the most needy in that they need attention and training and activities. They’re working breeds.
5:09 I'm sure he has a high LUK, but I think that turret was just a Mk. 1 (they have up to like Mk. VII), which their accuracy is really only gained through multiple turrets being able to get a preponderance of shots off.

21:59 Indeed!! I actually watched an interview with one of the writers who said expressly that was their intent, and that the Ghoul was using VATS there.
This bothers me, as I don't see how a non-vault-dweller has access to VATS. I always assumed it was a function of the Pip-Boy, but I was able to access VATS while escaping vault 111 even before snagging the dead guy's Pip-Boy, so...
Does everyone in the world have access to VATS, then? That makes no sense, either. I guass is an automatic perk of "belonging" to VT, in any capacity at all, even company spouse.
@@danquerry3436 That's because the Ghoul doesn't have the Bethesda type VATS, he is old so he has the Fallout1 and 2 aiming system. Which is basically the same as VATS but it is not named that way (And you can hit eyes, head, torso, all 4 limbs and groin in it) It is just named aimed shot.

Hey Cyn, glad you're loving this series! In case you're wondering, I think The Ghoul's 'handcannon' is actually a modified MTs255 shotgun revolver firing some kind of solid slugs. Even though everyone seems to think they're explosive rounds.
There is literally "Boom!" stamped on the back of the projectile. Sounds explosive to me.

Knight Titus IS weak and cowardly so therefore undeserving of being a Knight. If he would have just stood his ground and little longer instead of just turning around and running, Max would have been able to draw a bead on that bear in the cave. To say Titus actions of cowardice and betrayal of his oath is understandable is to crap on real soldiers throughout human history!

I'm so glad you appreciate that Maximus is childlike and impulsive, many people jump right to 'he's evil, selfish and untrustworthy', and stay there the whole series. It really misses the point of his character arc.
Also *nobody* seems to get why Maximus hesitated to shoot at the time, they only get it later (if at all). His entire world view of heroic Knights was just blown apart in under 10 minutes, dude couldn't process what he was seeing.
I’d also as that shooting it without being sure of a good kill shot would just as likely just piss the bear off and draw its attention - which would get both of them killed. Waiting until he could be sure of a head shot was probably the best thing he could have done for both himself and Titus.
Honestly he feels like the personification of a lot of players when they first put on power armour, just going around being an OP dolt because blowing shite up is fun. He’s got rose tinted glasses and a lot of embedded rage, as Cyn says, he’s unstable. Misguided and now slightly disillusioned with his heroes he’s worshiped literally since he was a kid, he bought into the propaganda from the BoS hard… which always has made me laugh, because it’s one extra letter added to BS.
He was completely unqualified to be a squire and I'm honestly surprised the brotherhood didn't weed him out in the training phase. He wasn't on latrine duty because people were picking on him. That was just the only job he was qualified for.

@@joeb918 really...then compare maximus as a squire and thadius as a squire. Thadius did everything possible to be helpful, tracking the ghoul, doing maintenance on the armor, he volunteered for combat and actually protected maximus when maximus was attacked. Now look at maximus. He couldn't tell the difference between a rotor and a circuit, seemed almost clueless about the armor. Questioned his knight at every turn, balked at being sent into combat, only shot the bear when his knight was literally screaming for help and when informed that he was a failure as a squire let his knight die. Maximus is stupid, impulsive, disobedient, and almost worthless and succeeds(when he does succeed) almost by accident.

It's funny how you keep talking about Maximus's mindset with just how badly you've misread him. I've been trying to figure out what sent you down the wrong path you've chosen. Maybe things just make more sense to me because I'm an old soldier. Oh well. I don't think I'll be watching any more. I hope you enjoy the show.

The gun and rounds the Ghoul uses I believe are the Hand Loaded Volatile Rounds = BIG damage but a chance to malfunction.

That's a popular game myth going around nowadays. Iguana-on-a-Stick is actual Iguana. You only need to worry about "Iguana Bits". And even then, only two vendors in the Fallout universe are known to sell the bad ones.
Maximus should have never been made a squire. He was totally unqualified for the job.
