  • Stucco knockdown dash finish.
    A dash is thrown on soupy stucco, like the old expression "a dash of salt."
    A knockdown Dash is when you use a trowel and go over the dash finish.
    For immediate bids, send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below.
    www.StuccoPlas... Kirk’s website.
    www.GiordanoPl... Jason’s Website.
    What is a Stucco Knockdown Dash?
    Hello all, in this how-to video, we show How to apply an exterior knockdown dash finish.
    The video below has the same finish, but for the inside walls, we used plaster instead of stucco. • Plaster master matchin...
    Knock, who there’s? Kirk the best, Kirks the best, who? Kirks is the best stucco, dude; now you know.
    Tip, folks When dashing, you will give a better dash stucco finish if you have a real Dash-Brush. If not, I have used a small whisk broom, a fat paintbrush, and a few other meetings to throw on a stucco dash finish.
    I would recommend Rapid Set Stucco, which is sold at all Home Depots and Lowes. All you do is add water.
    Note that this cement plaster sets very fast and extremely hard, so make sure you read the instructions thoroughly, my friend.
    More dash finishes are below,
    • Pebble dash stucco fin... Throw a pebble dash finish for a stucco turret.
    • Throw on a tunnel dash... Stucco tunnel dash stucco finish.
    • What can be added to s... Why call a second coat brown when it’s grey, dash finish.
    Anyone who stumbles on our channel with a question, type your question into our channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it’s done. This feature is miles ahead of any plastering forum.

    Flexing the trowel gives the best results for inside corners! Normally I try to avoid those box store corner tools, there good for first rough coat, but even then need clean up work. Love the tips on texturing! this is where I am trying to expand my craft. Beautiful work as always Kirt!

      Evening Kurt, thank you, if you wish to learn how to apply any and every kind of texture that any person has applied, I have not found one yet that we can't match,
      Yes, some take a bit longer than others, but the texture has not been applied we can't match or better yet, "show You how to match."

      Evening Arely, your dad is ahead of the game as he is taking online courses basically to understand the do's and the don'ts, most men don't have this patients and do the job twice, the first time it fails then the second too, the third time they hire a fella to do what they could have learned by taking the time out to understand by watching and being "attentive" in a simple video,

    I just did some repairs. All I did was slab a bunch of cement, grabbed the same brush, but instead of flicking more cement onto the wall, I just jab the wall using the same brush to create the same texture. And it blended beautifully.

      @StuccoPlastering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good Evening J Dude, cool beans daddieo, lots of ways to skin a cat.
      The way I show in this video creates mountains or added sand, to dab at a newly applied coat of stucco loosens the coats from adhering properly, causing hairline cracking when it dries plus places valleys instead of mountains, when painted you will see what I'm referring to.
      Best wishes,

    My friend.
    Thank you for the video.
    They just finished replacing my pool plumbing under ground and unfortunate my pool cement deck has texture. The contractor did try to match the sale texture but he didn’t faded or blended with the existing so you clearly see the 12” line cut 10 foot long with some type of texture. So I decided to buy a texture gun for $100 Lowe’s to splash texture and try to match then painted.
    I could of just used your technique with tue brush.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howdy Mr, Serio, indeed you could have used just a dash brush.
      Tip, if you're going to use a dash brush or hand hopper mist the ground first other wise no product whether it's cementitious or acrylic will stick properly to dry ground, plus that ground or deck has to be clean enough to eat off. 💃

      man that sucks. You have obviously put in your time and deserve better. I worked for a guy similar to you when I was coming up in the flooring trade he knew everything there was to know about carpet and vinyl. Specs , manufactures guidelines it didn't matter he knew his shit. And he would go as far as calling the manufacture if he wasn't sure. That guy could work circles around me, even a cock strong kid fresh out of the Marine Corps. I admire you and your work ethic. You do great work and great service by posting these videos. I know flooring, carpet and tile especially, there are a lot of hacks on here preaching the gospel of their trade and all of them doing it so far wrong it isn't even funny. Keep the videos coming I don't do plaster but every video give me that much more confidence and ideas for my next water proofing job for tile and for the area above the tile skim coat and paint. I believe that you are always learning and from the next guy you might lean that tip or trick that you would have never thought of

    Kirk been with you awhile. Just purchased a home at auction and realized it's stucco wasn't bulging. It's the red brick behind is bulging. You always have concise answers and need to know how to get back to the brick to reset it. I feel like I bought a disaster. Any links or suggestions dealing with deconstruction and shoring. I mentioned to you before , my plan was to use your techniques in Philly. But have to fix red brick first HELP PLEASE. Thanks you got style and love a union man like you

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good evening Isaac dude, sorry for your situation, there's only one way to repair this, remove all the bulging stucco, then pressure wash the bricks and stucco, if you're lucky it won't be too much.
      Bricks don't have the ability to expand so the foundation must be settling in some areas, thus the bulging stucco.

    • @isaacmercado7216
      @isaacmercado7216 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bud. But my problem isn't bulging stucco it's the brick behind it. Really need to know how to decontruct, and replace. The section isn't huge but it's pulled away maybe 3 in. How do you decide where to begin removing section. Do you score in a brick pattern?Also notice some strongly recommend not covering brick but it's done . ie do you score stucco in a brick pattern or just knock it out and pray. And yes it's near corner where drainage has been issue for years. I' feel like bulging above window lintle can be removed and replaced but don't know how to start . Are you saying it's most likely a result of corner settling . Which should be addressed first. I know it's difficult without pix. Obviously a novice. Don't want to jump in deep end with out a plan. Thanks again Kirk your stuff is first rate

      Hi wayne with portland cement, often, with any of the same day cement plasters, don't retemp any of them, throw them away as once retempered or water added this action will give the illusion it can be reused, but it's just that, "an illusion," these retempered same day materials or cement plaster can be sometimes be weakened to the point that they can be scraped off with your fingernails.

    Captain Kirk, Absolutely love your videos and respect a man that works hard with his family. You mention knowing what to do to add dash knockdown to wall that is dried. I was doing my first stucco wall (on a chimney. high on a sloping roof) and was trying to finish in one afternoon. Unfortunately, I underestimated the time it would take to get the stucco on and it got dark before I had a chance to do the dash knockdown. I was able to use the wet sponge and bring out the rough texture on most of the surface. What do you suggest to adjust so that the dash and knockdown will work on a completely hard surface?

    I also had a very important question. If you could please help me out. I too do a little bit of plastering. My close friend wants me to help me to the front of his home which is siding. When I did it in the past for a General construction company. We went over the basic T11 siding if it was in good shape. but my friend has the beveled siding that kind of sticks out and goes side to side over and laps each other. Was wondering if I can go just go over it with the proper black moisture paper and lathing or should it be romeved. My concern is the paper easily ripping because of the slight gap that is going to be underneath the black paper due to the beveled siding. I hope I explained myself properly enough fornyou to understand me. hope to hear from you soon kirk. I really have a love for the art of plaster. thanks :)

    • @StuccoPlastering

      Do yourself and her a favor, and caulk them with Mor-flex as this will waterproof these holes. Stucco won't, plus if stucco is used it will pop off in time. No doubt when the holes are patched with the Mor-Flexx calking with sand in the tubes they will suck in or shrink, just add more in a few days and feather in or try to match the original finish with this easy-to-use quality caulking. Cheers 👨🏻‍🔬

    Do you apply a scratch coat first?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, I applied both coats but didn't need to add scratch lines. as both coats were back to back with a same-day stucco.

    Kirk master plaster I'm having a hard time finding 8 inch long dash brush. I want to buy one like you have in other dash vids. Also I can only find plastic or brown thistle tines. Thanks in advance. Live long and plaster.

    Can you use a spray hopper... such as what you would use in drywall finishes?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      EveningTsunami, sure can, but I have it dashed before the time it takes to set up a dash gun, personally.

    How would I do a dart dash on a painted surface without faking off?

      Hi Kirk, if you mean how to do a stucco dash finish over a painted wall, easy apply a bonding agent like Quikrete over the painted and cleaned surface.
      Now the new stucco will adhere. And, now you know.😉

      Good Evening Jordan, for the dah coat about 5 to 20 minutes or touch the stucco to make certain it's not too wet, to paint, 30 days it has to cure.
