Let's talk about electronics ... what are some of the first steps you do if your having Garmin or Simrad issues? Have you ever had your boat hauled across country? Any lesson to share...
Chris did a great job going through the set up of a new boat. The set up of the on board Garmin was helpful. I agree that Garmin has a better tech support for boat novas.
Chris is brilliant when it comes to these tough ones! LOL it was only supposed to take us an hour and I left him on the boat after 3 hours .... the download took a long time since it hadn't been done in a long while.
ELECTRICAL problem at our yacht club. Our neighbor purchased a used tri level boat and when he plugged it it he only had 120volts. He asked me to check it for him so I did. The electrician that rewired our dock the previous winter ran phase A to one side of the dock and phase B to the other side of the dock. I used a "Y" connection and ran one from the A side of the dock and ran another wire from the B side of the dock and he had power. Mostly on that beginning end of the dock is were the boats are mostly day boats up to 30'. So the way it was set up was not a problem because they mostly only had a 120Volt connection. The Boat owner called the electrician and he came by a few days later and fixed the issue by putting the wiring from B side over to his slip on the A side and the boat owner was good to go. Kind of a weird situation but it worked out ok. Just thought I would share that. Mountain View Yacht Club, Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Thanx Jeff
Love your show, but please get some wireless mics. The audio sometimes is horrible very educational, but you need wireless mikes for everyone. Keep up the good work.
We have sets of wireless mics our 3 set is on the way! Appreciate the feedback. Audio isn't always easy with the elements that we deal with .... thanks for watching our chaos.
It’s not the mics. It’s where you have them. Keep your mics away from the throat area. If they are up against the throat area, they pick up vibrations in the neck, making them sound distorted. I love your videos. Just trying to help make them better.
@@fishgames7700 love you for the help .... yes that's the problem! These mics are the best but hard to place on the guys shirts. Our next set have a magnets so we can put them hopefully any where. LOL I place mine under my shirt on a strap!
If and that's a mighty big "if". The boat electrical power & distribution is designed correctly and nobody else comes along after and adds electrical loads randomly. The power load should be balanced between L1, L2 and L3 of 3PH. Often all the loads get out of balance between the legs and that causes problems all over. Because there are 240v equip. loads that now have a leg with low voltage. I am sure on some of those nice boats you work on have power conditioners etc. that helps to have that level of equipment but still has to be checked to make sure stuff wasn't connected causing unbalanced system.
Lol I would love to own a pilot boat up here on lake Michigan lol but we have had a span of owners from Chicago melting their shore power plug adapters because they didn't want to spend the money for good ones lol
@@WillFixThat how old is the dock boxes yall deal with maybe there is some internal corrosion? Because ours did that and causing the cable plug to burn up or melt on the dock or boat plug
My boat moored on the Solent UK. Went down turned on power. Turned on Raymarine chart plotter. Guess where it was shown located. 40 miles offshore Miami. Out by 3200 miles. Took 2 days to troubleshoot and fix. Techs comments. - Fastest trans Atlantic crossing in history.
Only way to know any of these things is to spend years and years learning about them, think about how much time money and effort these qualified people save the customer...
Sometimes these videos remind me of having to go program someone’s tv remote or hooking up a modem for someone that isn’t tech savvy. People with the money to buy the expensive boats aren’t always wanting to spend the time reading the manuals or even knowing anything other than where are we going next….they don’t want to do the maintenance either….

10 things every boat owner should know it’s location. Excellent video

Thanks 👍

We have calls often when people arrive saying that they are having shore power problems. Seems lots of electrical issues with boats!

Yes this episode was difficult to hear.
I have everything Garmin on my boat. Love the ease of use and updates over the Wi-Fi.
Just curious how often do you update your garmin?
good job your a good teacher👍
Thank you! 😃 we try!
How's the weather in the keys, it's 32 in ocala. High of 54 today Brrrrrrrrrrr
Our high today is about 71' got our space heater on LOL
Love the videos..but y'all's audio is blown out (meaning its distorted/over modulated) on some of the shots.
Yes …. Sorry new mics are on the way it’s a conundrum either we post a video or we don’t because of the audio?
@@WillFixThat Keep posting! I think everyone can live with it. It's not that bad.
@@nameunavailable456yup we keep posting as we address the issue …. It’s not like we can plan our videos so it’s 1 and done or 1 and to the trash!
Garmin all the way!

It seems as boat’s get older people just hook up added equipment to whatever power they can find and then you have what u said. 😖

Shore power is an issue here too! For whatever reason boats arrive and can’t get it to work!
