Stevie Wonder was the first artist I heard recording with the Talkbox. Then Rufus, featuring Chaka Khan. Well before I heard of Peter Frampton, who really highlighted it with “Do you feel like i do?” Hancock also used it on a album in the late 70’s.

It was made for the pedal steel then used on radio shows as an effect and then it really got popular when Bob Heil made one for Joe Walsh to use while he was touring. That same talk box was the one Peter Frampton used on Frampton Comes Alive. So no it was not developed for keyboards

There is no voice, only mouth movement. The voice is produced by talkbox, instead of your own vocal cords

Re: 3… it depends on the unit… if you use the original Dunlop Heil HT-1 you do need an amp to drive the internal speaker as it doesn’t have an onboard amp like the MXR or other newer units.

So i just got one of these today and i'm trying to record it into my MPC but it only plays out of the pedal and the audio isn't going into the drum machine. Do i need to buy a microphone to record the talk box itself?

Just got a new talkbox, and I actually have the same keytar as you. I don't seem to have the right cords to plug it in.
What type of keyboard do you recommend thats easy to use and low cost for the talk box?
You can actually use any keyborad you want as long as it has a dry sawtooth patch but in terms of sound quality and popularity for the talkbox the microkorg and the yamaha dx 100 is the best! They are just around $350 on amazon and ebay
So with this exact talkbox, does it have a built in pre amp. Do i not need a separate amp?

do you need a mic and a PA system?
You need a mic if you wanna play live or record it for your tracks but if you just want to play around with it at home or practice you don't really need a mic :)
There is a little amp in the unit so you can play out in a field if you so have a power source.

I just received mime today but when I talk through it the sound doesn't change like it didn't fuse with my voice regular note sounds come out of my tube without fusing with my voice
Just keep on practicing! If I'm gonna give a tip, try to talk to the tube without using your actual voice coming out-- you just mouth into. No voice coming out, but just air. I know it's tricky but I hope it made some sense to you. Good luck! :)

Yes you can! Although I'm not sure if there is a mono saw tooth patch there that can work well with the talk box.

Hello how use talkbox MXR with ableton please?
put the output of the ableton into the input of the talk box. stick the tube into the back of your throat until you are choking on it. grip the tube with one side of your back teeth. press play on Ableton and shape the sound or words with your mouth. record the output of your mouth with a vocal mic.

It actually depends on the instrument you're more comfortable on (keyboard, guitar, bass etc) because you can use the talkbox on any instrument (as long as you can plug it in there)!

The old Talk Boxes weren’t there own amps. They were a real pain to use. I’m talking about the 1970s and 80s.

Yup, I'm pretty sure you could, you'd just need a more powerful talk box, I've been eyeing up a crazy powerful box called the talkstar.
A talk box, in a nutshell, is just a speaker in a box with a pipe coming off it, so almost any source will work (with most modern boxes), you just need something with the oomph to push the bass frequencies.

That video is of a guy trying a talkstar and he plays a C1 around the time I linked, that is approx. 32hz, the open E string on a 4 string bass is an E1 at approx. 41hz.
While I can't say for sure, based on the frequencies it produces in that video, a bass should work no problems, however, you might get somewhat puny results with a direct or clean bass signal. I would suggest that bass -> buzz/fuzz pedal -> talk box would give you good results.
In the video I sent the guy isn't even using a mic in front of his mouth to amplify and the volume it produces is evident in every video I've seen. Worst case you would use a mic as most talkboxes usually require.
Not sure how long you could comfortably play before your throat went numb from the vibrations though, you might shake you fillings out! XD
Edit: Just found this example of a bass through talkbox, even sounds like it has the buzz/fuzz on it, but as you can see, the box he has is chonky, like the talk star, so you clearly need one with some serious power. (th-cam.com/video/umnxhsOzdo4/w-d-xo.html)

Weird ass instrument
It's a compression speaker driver with a tube on the end of it and that is all it is. Fun to chew on the tube and suppress the gag reflex. You should try it. Get a real talkbox driven by an amp head and you can loosen your fillings.

He reccomends a sawtooth, and Talkbox Jr's sawtooth is in his opinion, great and really good. And it ISNT his software at all.
