    To simplify everything: A talkbox can only produce vowel sounds. YOU have to manually provide the consonants. Open your throat too. I see a lot of beginners keeping the sound up high in their heads and it sounds very nasal.

    Thanks for your tips. I'm practicing for a couple of weeks and still have difficulties with the consonants you describe. Do you need a microphone to amplify these sounds, or should we be able to hear them without a mic ? (As when I'm practicing alone at home, for instance)

    thx a lot. it is helpfull. And my quesstion is why most of time the synth sound itself is louder than the 'talk box' sound.

    Thanks man this video is very helpful. What do you recommend I do to improve with the talk box? I also wanted to ask about bending pitch. What should I do to get better using that?

    • @JEzra-cx7bx

      Thank you!
      The biggest thing that I notice with new talk box players is that they aren't enunciating their words properly when they play the talk box. Practice saying your words correctly so that it doesnt sound slurred when you sing. That's something I personally had a hard time with and every now and then I'll have to practice again just to make sure I'm doing it right.
      I've made a video called "Biggest Tall Box Mistake" and I talk more about it in that video if you wanna check it out!

    Yet again, Great quick and simple video! Quick question... I have dirty power with my Rocktron Banshee (original version) even with a brand new power supply. There's a LOUD and constant buzzing sound no matter if it's on talkbox or bypass mode. I'm wondering if it may be best to switch over to the Talkstar altogether. Any tips are much appreciated! Thanks!!

    Great stuff. I'm guilty for being one of those guys that watched your vids and never subscribed. Mostly because I was immediately putting my Rocktron Banshee tube in my mouth and applying your tips while watching your video. I finally subscribed. My question is regarding your Korg settings. I have an older model. Been using it for years. It appears that you have a newer model. Mine is dark brown. Can you make a video explaining your synth settings so I can compare to mine?

      Thanks for subscribing! Unfortunately I am not planning on releasing any videos for a while because I am currently in pilot training and I’m 100% focused on that at the moment. I have a video going over how to get a talk box patch on the MicroKorg S, you could watch that and compare. You can find it on my channel, thanks for watching! I’m here if you have any other questions.

    Fantastic tips I just bought the MXR Talkbox and I was wondering because I play a guitar and I don’t have a PA I was thinking of running it through another guitar amplifier and what kind of microphone do you recommend will anyone do the job or should I get something like a sure microphone?

      Dynamic microphones would be your best option. Sure SM58 and that family of microphones are great options.

  • @PnutProducer

    Hey man I have a quick question, let’s say you turn off the built in speakers from the Korg synth, how can you hear yourself playing the talkbox? Can you do it through studio monitors via interface and mic? Or does the talk box have built in speakers? Sorry I hope I make sense 🙏🏼

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The talk box itself is a speaker that sends sound waves into your mouth through the tube. You're able to hear the talk box not because of the speakers on the microkorg, you're able to hear it because the sound is coming directly out of my mouth.
      If you can, buy one and try it out for yourself, it will help you understand a bit better.
      It's like this:
      Microkorg makes a signal,
      Then signal is sent to the talk box,
      Then talk box turns that signal into a sound wave,
      Then sound wave travels up the tube and into your mouth.
      Then sound comes out of your mouth and you are able to hear it.

      @PnutProducer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JEzra-cx7bx Okay great you don’t need to hook up studio monitors to hear yourself play the talkbox. The talkbox itself is a speaker. Thank you for replying I just bought my synth I’m going to order the talkbox this weekend

    I just bought a top box from guitar Center open box which had no power cord I bought a universal power cord but cannot get it to turn on do you think the item is broken or does it need a specific type of cord to power it on are used the option on the universal power supply that said 18 V but still nothing

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The specs are: (if you live in the US) 18 Volt, Input Voltage: AC100-240V, Output Voltage 18V DC.
      If you look up "mxr talk box power supply" on google you can find one for somewhere between $5 and $20.

    It’s a really difficult technique to get down but I guess it just takes practice

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you sit down and practice for a few hours a week you should get the basics down quickly. Tbh I could be a lot better than I am if I were to practice regularly haha.
      I'm still learning new things and finding better ways to sing on the talk box every time I practice, key is to not give up and keep working on it.

    Thinking about buying a talk box. Are there any issues to be concerned with? Like, tinnitus... ringing in the ears from improper use?

    • @JEzra-cx7bx
      @JEzra-cx7bx  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is loud but probably not loud enough to give you tinnitus. I actually have tinnitus but that's from listening to loud music and concerts.
      You can always use a talk box at a medium level volume if you're worried about hearing damage, just to be safe. But I havent had any issues.
      One thing I would reccomend is to keep your talk box tube clean and clean it every time after you use it so it doesnt get gross.

      A used Microkorg, Behringer model D, or mininova would be good start.

      KORG MicroKORG synthesizer is a good beginner synth same with the Behringer Model D/Poly D. Yamaha DX100 is a classic but they are old and prone to break downs and are a pain to program.
      Another good beginner synth is the MiniNova. You can find most of these in the used or local market for an affordable price. But synthesizers are kind of expensive regardless.
      You might want to try a software synthesizer as well.
      Check k out my channel and find a video called "talk box with MIDI keyboard Logic Pro"
      That technique uses a software synth with a DAW. It's more cheap than buying a synthesizer but you have to have a computer.

    I’m working minimum wage so getting the equipment for a talk box/keyboard is a big deal. I’m worried I’m going to spend to much money for something I could have gotten a lot cheaper. Did you ever feel like this when you started working with one?
