Zildjian VS Paiste Ride Cymbal Comparison

- So out of my ride cymbals I seem to mentally put these 4 in my "Jack of all trades" category, meaning that they are versatile but not necessarily specialist! I personally wanted to compare them to see which one I prefer for some upcoming work, but figured some people might find the comparison helpful! Ride cymbals from left to right are 20" Paiste Signature Full Ride, 20" Paiste 2002 Ride, 20" Zildjian K Ride and 20" Zildjian K Custom Medium Ride.
Thanks,
Steve
the paistes sound so much more musical to me than the zildjians
The Paistes sound too glassy and tinny. The zildjians are darker and more complex
@@danielcoburn7696 thank you for your opinion
@@danielcoburn7696you have to remember you won't hear any of that in a mix of guitars. I own both and you can actually hear the paistes sit above the mix and sound wonderful. The K's sound great on their own but they sit in the middle of the mix and can't cut through guitars unless it's a low volume set. K Heavys are a different story tho. I'm keeping my Paistes and K heavy but getting rid of my regular K. I have a K Con and Paiste 602 ME for quieter and more complex sounds
@@danielcoburn7696if ya want darker Paiste 2002 Big Beat got u covered. I got a 22...amazing
The idea of recording this video was really good! These comparisons help a lot! Thanks!
Thanks Nilton! 😀👍
my favorite one is the signature full ride, but the most versatile one is the k ride in my opinion
Cool. Many thanks Julian 😀
One of the best comparisons I've ever seen
Love the sound of Paiste!
Excellent comparison video. I wish everyone would follow this model. I like the Paiste rides in this video the most.
Thank you so much, I appreciate that
2002
Of those 4, if I had to pick one of them, I would choose the Paiste Signature full ride. To me, it sounded the best of the lot.
I started out on Paiste then went Zildjian for decades then I heard he masters series mellow ride and bought one and man the most beautiful cymbal I have ever played! I had a prototype masters crash also and perfection. My ears are going back to Paiste after decades! !My vintage Zildjian hats though are perfect!
Not only do the cymbal sound great your kit is tuned amazingly. Love the high snare and dead thud of the kick drum.
Paiste all the way for me. I find that most Ziljdian cymbals, especially their "higher-end" lines (whatever that means, since the price doesn't mean sht when it comes to cymbal sound), tend to sound good only in a mix or while being played alongside other instruments. Paiste cymbals tend to sound great all the time, even when you're just playing around and soloing for yourself. Also, Paiste tend to be much much more consistent in their manufacturing so cymbals from the same line and same model tend to sound almost identical all the time, while Zildjian is all over the place.
BTW, I play Paiste 2002 22" ride and it's the best ride I've ever heard in my 23 years of playing, so you could say I'm a bit biased here. :)
Yeah, but you have to find your sound. I play Paiste and Istanbul Agop 22“ Mel Lewis Ride, but Hihats Paiste at the moment, but thinking about getting more sizzly hihats.
Personally I found the Paiste 2002 and the Zildjian K Ride sounded overal best. But I bought the Zildjian Sweet Ride 21" and also got the Paiste 602 Formula in 20"
How do you like the 602? I was thinking about getting a 22” but I’m not sure how well it crashes.
2002 forever!!! ❤
Paiste forever!!!!!!!!
20 Paiste 2002 for me 👍
Paiste!!!!
Man I have the 2002 … maybe I gonna change that … do you know the hhx evolution?? Can you give me your opinion?
I’ve never owned one, but I’ve played one. If I remember rightly, they are thinner than the cymbals here with a little more wash/shimmer. I like them personally!
The Paistes have the best definition and are the brightest. However, when I listen to them on other videos, they don't have that clarity. So I'm still torn between the 20" K and the Paistes.
They all sound great to me!
That being said I'm partial to those Paistes.
I do like the K Custom Medium more than the K Ride.
The 2002 is bright but very musical.
The Signature Full is predictably gorgeous.
My "jack of all trades" ride is the 20" Paiste Signature Dry Ride. I've played it on gigs from jazz to metal. It's like a darker, more defined Full Ride. I'm good with that ride for most things. Especially since I don't fo much jazzing. If I needs something trashier I have a Signature Rough Ride for that.
For the heavier music I'll use the Paiste Signature Dry Dark Ride. This one is my favorite. I think it was designed to compete with the Zildjian K Custom. It's usually enough weight and definition to be effective in those situations. That being said I may pick up a couple RUDE Power Rides for maximum definition and volume. I'm not a very hard hitter, so I could use the added weight.
All very good cymbals, for me it would be K > P sig > K custom > P 2002. I think Zildjian K and Paiste signature are some of the best out there for all cymbals not just rides. Sabian HHX are good too.
i can't choose, so i have em both🙂
Paiste
For my taste, Paiste Signature, followed closely by the Paiste 2002. The Zildjians were just way too dry for my liking.
la K custom est vraiment typée et sa cloche pas terrible pas du tout polyvalente , les autres sont très belle avec un bémol pour la cloche de la 2002 , de plus elle est petite , faut pas la louper pour qu elle sonne bien
Paiste = Rolex or Porsche of the cymbal world. Just better
Great job. Nice rides! Got 2 of them. Great all around
K Custom in my ears are the ugliest high-end cymbals ever made: no live, no spirit. At the other end I love the ordinary K line (and so I chosed the HH cousind from Sabian :D ). And for the rest: Paiste I would use for louder Rock music, for Jazz Pop I would use the K's.
I think we‘re seeing an apple and oranges comparison here, as honorable as it may be. There are different cymbal series in both the Zildjian and Paiste cymbal families. The comparison should be between the similar darker and brighter series of both brands. So dark Ks vs Paiste Rude or 602s etc. . I understand that it may be difficult to source all of the different types but this demonstration is not a fair comparison to either cymbal maker. Both produce fantastic cymbals across a huge range of sound colours for different uses. And each have their own unique production philosophy. Very nice playing, though!
That is the single best comparison video I have ever seen. That process is EXACTLY how it should be done!
I disagree as mentioned in my comment. You are comparing two very different types of cymbal in this video.
@@christophkammel6403 I'm sorry, but your disagreement is completely irrelevant because we are talking about two different things. Do you see the word "process" in my comment? You are talking about what is being compared. I am talking about HOW they are being compared. It is the best comparison video I have seen because of the process being used, not because what he is comparing.
Fair point. But with that your very general statement about this being the „single best comparison video“ is at best misleading. Let’s move on
I have the 2002. The bell is perfect and I love the ping, but the crash sound isnt quite doing it for me. Thinking of getting a K.
That far left ride is music to my ears!
Agree...them two P's are Bonham all day long.
Awesome! 👍
The regular K all day any day and it’s not even close. Bell, bow and crash all cut and can rock out but aren’t overbearing in the overall performance and musical context and is able to be an accompanying instrument if needs be, which is mega important for jazz and pop.
B8 cymbals have no nuisance and that high frequency ‘zing’ just lingers for too long and gets in the way of the rest of the music in a really unpleasant way, unless you’re playing REALLY loud music in which case you won’t hear it. Cymbals don’t need to be that bright in order to cut, just listen to AAX, A Custom, Xist, Pure Alloy Custom. Power to you if you like it, and Paiste, but it ain’t for me. Ted talk over, sorry for ranting on the interne
Great Drumming and compassion video appreciate the way you played each cymbal in different ways so we can really get to hear the difference instead of just smacking it as most do 🤦😅. Thanks 😃
Thanks so much 😀
Very good comparation!! Thank you!!
For me and my style the Paiste win. It’s all the style and need that decides.
The PAISTE cymbals have a lot more overtones and a bigger wash after it is struck.
Paiste wins imo. Musical, warm, etc...
ive had full set of 2002 for 15 years now ,never keyholed or cracked play in 4 different bands bigband to funk and cant fault them..
great to hear the comparison played well ..used to listen to steve gadd with his k's and wanted them but find them too dry for my personal ear worm..
cheers Steve looking forward to more bigband vids ..are you still in the bigband?
That’s awesome!! Still in a couple of Big Bands, just haven’t had time to record any vids as yet. Thanks for your support!
Either one of the paistes
They both sound incredible
I don’t like the Zildjians at all
The paistes sound amazing.
💚💛🧡🤍💙
Great Video Here... I recall Going into Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood in 1989 I played every single cymbal in the building. I could have anyone I wanted as a gift. I walked out with The PAISTE Signature FULL Ride 20" = Over these many years collecting various cymbals as a hobby (Zildjian Z, K, A, Sabian...) Nothing compares to the Paiste Full Ride. I have maybe 15 drum kits currently, The DW Collectors is simply on another level to any and all and I must say nothing sounds better w/ than My Signatures. Paiste all the way everyday any day. The Signature Fast Crashes 16, 17, 18, are so sweet... the Sound Edge Hi-Hats are second to none. NOTHING RIVALS (Only other Paiste(s)
Nick Mason uses b8 and b20 in music on recording, it's really hard to discern the differences unless you really prefer a particular alloy, it's all in the track or versatility imo. Some would argue only to use b8 for live, but Paiste has some of the best b8 lines, no argument there!
Paiste is a much cleaner cymbal line, especially 2002 series which I own.
Paiste!
Thanks for the great comparison !!!! I like them all but the Paiste are my favorite. Hard to choose between the signature and the 2002.
