Scary? Not really, it just means that it can't be used as evidence against you anymore. :) Just like editing pictures and movies was "scary as hell" back in the day, now it can't be used as evidence because it may have been tampered with.
The saddest thing of this is that every siggraph present very good ideas that then aren't implemented in common software like maya, cinema4d or blender.
it's the first thing that comes to my mind. oh look! a fantastic tech that would make an amazing work... never released to the public or implemented in a way that can be used. bummer :L
Actually a lot of it gets integrated in software, just takes time, but also some of the prototypes presented here have very specific use so it's not worth to invest time in implementing them in a general purpose modeling software.
just want to point out the low cost stretch sensing glove would be awesome if made in to like a new version of a controller for VR stuff. like that old glove controller, but actually knowing what you are making now just pitching this out there that i would totally buy that
I'd love to see a game using that key art tech. Games are looking more and more realistic, but we've yet to see a game that can fool you into thinking it was hand-drawn.
I'm not so sure about that. Go back like 15.. 20 years and there's a game made entierly in clay animation. I think a lot of old adventure games are actually hand drawn. I guess it's a definition question.

it's expensive to go there, and unless you're a profesional in that field or researcher or something, it's pointless to go there. Unless you're going to buy patents from their creators or something..
Some of the events are live-streamed (Real-Time Live is a great event that streamed last year). Most of the tech papers and some presentations have video recordings that are available to the public for a short bit before being archived in the ACM Digital Library so you can check them out there shortly after the conference. If you're a student, or even recent grad in the case of SIGGRAPH Asia, and are interested in the industry of computer graphics, I highly suggest looking out for and applying to be an student volunteer (SV) for future SIGGRAPH conferences; You won't have to pay for registration in exchange for working around the conference. As xl says, it IS expensive to attend (not even taking into account the travel/hotel costs), and if you don't plan on working in film, games, animation, etc, it most likely won't be worth it. But if you are planning to work or do something with computer graphics, it's one of the best learning and networking events imo. I'm probably biased bc I've served as an SV for a couple years, but again, I think it's amazing and just plain fun.
Yeah that's one thing I don't understand is people act like "Oh no deepfakes are going to allow fake videos of people and stuff" but like misinformation already is a sucky problem and all we have to do is word a headline on reddit in a malicious way and barely anyone will read the article to see what's actually going on
I am working on an AI that views TH-cam videos I don’t have time to view and leaves comments for me. But it currently has a glitch and leaves a swear word at the end of each comment in caps. SHIT
Great!!! You guys spent all this time and money finding better ways to lie. Objectively, that's it! False sense of power. We're still stuck in the same planet and can't even get over war, because everyone lies, all the time. Real arguments as to how I'm wrong are welcome, everything else, is a waste of time. whatever emotions you feel during the act of reading this comment are entirely your responsibility, getting over it and moving on to find out the truth is where's at.

yes sir.
you are not alone dude :)

Some people have Christmas, we have Siggraph.
sadly you never know where the technology ends up..
I have said it before and will say it again, SIGGRAPH is the convention of Wizards.
IM GONNA GIVE ALL THE BUNNIES KNITTED JUMPERS AND THEY WILL BE WARM AND IT WILL BE GOOD

but aren't they gonna melt?
Change a speech by editing a text transcript. That's actually scary as hell.
4 years old technology
The next step will be changing a video by adding comments.
@@stromboli183 You can do that with images already, I guess you could make a video with a set of those edited images.

Trailer of the year, please dont spoil it in the comments
Every year Siggraph is giving us a glimpse of the future.
My rabbit did not appreciate the sweater as much as I thought she would.
Will first appear in Snapchat, couple years later in pro software, 10 years later Adobe will sale it to us as innovation.
Thanks for blowing my mind. Now I have to pick up all the pieces.
that split bread absolutely stunning!!
😳😳😳 Well, that was freaking amazing.
who are the six people who dis-approve of this literal wizardry?
Artists scared for their jobs
These people are wizards and science + research is magic. I am convinced.

It's not so easy to implement bugged and lagging prototype into a consumer product, uknow
