    What aspect of color grading would you like to know more about? I’m looking for ideas for a future video on color grading, so please leave your suggestions in the comments below 😊👇🏼

    • @Scratchboardproductions
      @Scratchboardproductions 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you have any videos on color grading for creating shadows? Or anything on how to create moody horror looks in color grading?

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have anything like that yet, but that’s a good idea for a future video.
      A quick way to create a moody look would be to do basic corrections (like exposure, white balance, etc) across all your clips and then apply a moody LUT to an adjustment layer that you can add across your entire edit.
      If you don’t want to use a LUT, you can still use an adjustment layer to create your own moody look using FCPX’s built in color plugins.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! Dark footage is tough. You could brighten it up using your color wheels and then apply a noise reduction plugin if it gets too grainy.

    Oh wow 🤗, thank-you for this 🙏. What I especially love is that you took the time to show *every* step. So many FCPX tutorials just go way too fast, make too many assumptions, and leave out just enough of the crucial bits that it’s just too frustrating. This was 👌👌👌

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching. Appreciate the feedback! I'm trying to find the balance between giving all the steps so that beginners can follow, but not making it too basic for some of the more experienced users. I'm glad you found it helpful 😊

      @@Brad_West I think you nailed it 🤗👌. I’ve been using FCPX for 5 years, but I know I barely scratch the surface. If you cover something, even if you do it quickly I can still rewind/pause... so much better than if it’s just not there. (I know it’s not easy to get technical tutorials “right”, so again, thank-you 🙏)

    Hey Brad and Donna, thanks so much for making this video. I was able to follow along and I managed to change one of the preset bumper/title in FCPX for my project. I would like to learn how to color grad to enhance skin tones or even skin texture, thanks much! 🙆

      One idea would be to enhance a sunset shot on the farm. If you have a yellow-ish sunset that is a little dull, you could change the yellow to a more orange-y color to make the sunset look a bit more dramatic. 😊

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a tricky one! You would most likely need to do that by using visual effects techniques in After Effects or Motion. Not an easy thing to do 😊

  • @RobertBilling
    @RobertBilling 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great stuff, but you can also just make a keyframe in the Hue/Saturation box, this way you don't have to make multiple clips.

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! I guess I should have clarified that if you need to adjust the timing of the transition or anything like that, I find it easier to quickly drag that transition as opposed to opening up the keyframe editor and making changes that way. Also, if you transition in and out of that effect and you decide to adjust the saturation later, you have to change the saturation at two keyframes as opposed to just making the change once on the top clip 😄👍🏼

    @austinevplab7167 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One point I’m confused about. When you duplicated the layer was that duplicating the clip or just the adjustment layer? I was expecting to see a blend mode change on the top layer. Also, your shortcut tips like +2 are really, really appreciated. I think your tutorials are the best out there. Thank you!

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I duplicated the clip, it duplicated the clip with the HSL effect on it since I had already added the effect. That’s why I removed it on the bottom clip.
      Appreciate you watching the tutorials 😊🙏🏼

    • @austinevplab7167
      @austinevplab7167 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brad_West But I can’t see the bottom clip unless I change the top clip’s blend mode from normal to Overlay or something. This is what confuses me. Thanks.

    Thank you for this quick and very easy to understand video. Actually I am on the search of finding a way to do this: change the colours of the dresses of a group of dancers for my next song video! The idea is this: have all of them wear the same coloured dresses for the group dance. In post edit, I want to change the colours of their dresses [all of the dancers to a different coloured dress]. The central reason for this proposal is cost cutting: to avoid the expenses of having them to dance in two or three costumes of different colours. Can this be done?

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you should be able to change the colors of the dresses. If you’re changing the dresses to different colors in the same shot you will probably need to do some masking to make it work.
      I would also recommend shooting a test clip with the dresses to make sure you can change the colors you want to change to.
      Hope that helps 😊
