My father would always bring us to Shiro's whenever we visited from the mainland. Good memories and food.
Thank you!
Such a wonderful story keep up the great stories of hawaii 🍜
Thank you Susan!
Shiro’s! This is the kind of food I love because it’s home style cooking! Next time do any favorite, Shige’s!!!
Good idea! Love that restaurant too!
We Love Shiro's !!! Amazing how much they do things from scratch !!! Delicious ,Onolicious foods ! Thank you so much for sharing !
It is amazing how much they make in house!
Hi Cari, Thank you for the vlog! Shiro's!!!! Love that place. Lot of memories going there over the years. Gotta get back there when I come back home. Really cool that you got to go in the back to see how things are done. I didn't know it was that big in back.
Thanks, Miles! It's definitely a special place to visit when coming to Hawaii!
Hi Cari! A great new direction for your vlog! Even though there are many YT vloggers who review the many places to eat your video was especially rewarding in sharing not only the tastiness of the food but also the history. It’s so true that the precious family owned restaurants have fallen on hard times. My wife and I visited Shiro’s on our honeymoon. Many of the other places we ate at during our honeymoon like KC Drive-in with their waffle dogs and peanut butter shakes are are gone. Loved the original food hall on the second floor of the old Shiokiya at Ala Moana. The mom and pop restaurants of Hawaii are the true backbone of local Grindz. So true that the openings of mainland chains like Olive Garden, 85 Degrees and most recently Paris Baguette is exciting but so are staples 😂like Jane’s Fountain and Sekiya! That’s why this video on Shiro’s Saimin Heaven was such a fantastic direction for your efforts! Great job and congrats to you!👏🤙🙂
Thank you for this comment! I am definitely thinking about doing more videos like this... overall a great way to help the community and learn something new about the small business here on island.
Love Shiro’s! Great family owned, tried and true restaurant! Workers are fantastic and treat all customers like family! Everything I’ve had has been onolicious! Thanks, Cari for doing this video!
Agreed! Thanks, Leigh!
Thank you, Cari and Uncle B for this super review. I learned a lot about Shiro’s, as I wasn’t aware that they do so much in-house! No wonder food is always consistent and delish. Our son and family relocated back to Hawaii and Shiro’s is one of their go-to eateries. Even our younger grandson loves it and has shifted from plain saimin, no toppings to the (still plain saimin) saimin and lumpia combo! I was shocked!
Me too! I learned a lot from doing this video. lol. Thank you for sharing!
Aloha Cari and Uncle from Borrego Springs Ca. Love your channel, Have a great day🙏❤️🙏
Thank you, Barbara!
Thank your for highlighting Shiro’s! Great to learn more about legendary shops like Shiro’s.

I miss eating at Shiro's Saimin Haven!
It's the best!
It's good to know that there is a good down home restaurant like Shiro's. I miss those dishes that my Grandma used to make. I'll make sure to visit when I'm in Hawaii.
This is the place to go for the local style dishes!
Thank you again Cari and Uncle B!! Amazing job on this and all of your other interviews featuring local family businesses!!!
Thank you so much for letting us go behind the scenes! Loved learning about Shiros. Such a special business!
Awesome video. I actually used to eat there pretty often before i moved back to Hawaii. I actually never knew it was still open until this video.

Love this video! I get the #55 all the time it's my favorite. Your uncle looks familiar he looks like one of our vendors when I used to work at the Dole Plantation Store but I don't think he worked for Harder's back then. Can't remember what company he worked for. 👍🏼🤙
Hi Elizabeth, I used to work for a company called Cico enterprise and yes, I used to go to Dole Plantation every week!
I worked as a floor assistant there a long time ago. Nice to see you on Cari's TH-cam channel. 😊
Aloha and Konnichiwa from Japan Shiro's is one of my favorite! so ONO

I was going to your folks place this past weekend with the rain etc.....I now will probably go this memorial day weekend....
Thanks Wayne!
What a lovely place! It reminded me of my grandma’s food. She used to make us makisushi when we drove home after visiting. When japanese food like sushi/sashimi weren’t popular, this is what was japanese food to me 😂
Yes, this place gives very nostalgic local vibes. Super sweet.
Been eating there since the early seventies. Ends up it is my classmates, grandpa's shop.
Down the hall was another schoolmates, parents shop,
Larry's Waiau Bakery.❤
Thank you for sharing!
Long time business, local comfort food and GREAT family. I’ve been going there since the mid 80’s when I worked at a muffler shop back in high school. Whenever I fly home, I try to make at least one visit to enjoy their food and hospitality. A definite fixture on Oahu and hoping they continue to serve the people of HI for years to come. Thank you for recognizing this great eatery.
Thank you so much for sharing this story! I love reading comments like this!

Thank you so much, Avery!
🤩🤩🤩
Great story about Shiro's, Cari! It's important that we all support small businesses in Hawaii.
Yes, agreed! Thank you for watching!
This was a very interesting video. I have never been to Shiro's but now my wife and I intend to go there. I love how they do their business. Thanks Cari!
That's great to hear, Howard! I hope you're able to make it out there!
It sad that the taste of from another time. Kids nowadays don’t appreciate it. Went there with my kids and they didn’t like it… they rather have tan tan.😢
Its good that you're sharing with them these places. They will appreciate it one day.
Used to be so much better. Still good, much, much better than jippy's, but just not as good as before. So much more expensive too.
I understand what you're saying but truly, it's not really the fault of the restaurant. Costs for everything like supplies to labor have skyrocketed, making it tough on the labor intensive businesses like restaurants.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Food in general these days is very expensive...
