This is a training exercise where American Apaches and trainers are giving allied militaries training on how to lazer designate targets.
The allied countries are Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
Still blows my mind this one helicopter can identify and target 128 separate targets simultaneously, hand that data to his buddies and destroy all 128 targets in one strike
For enemies, that's 128 too many. For the US, that's infinity - 128 short of ALL the targets....because 'Murica.
My aircraft the F-14 Tomcat was the first aircraft able to track more than 1 target.
The Tomcat AWG-9 radar could track 24 targets air to air and fire on the 6 most hostile of the 24.
@@foofghtrlove hearing insider info like that, awesome
That number isnt random either if you know binary
@@foofghtr That bugged me in the movie Top Gun because it was BVR capable.
Everyone a 90’s kid sees an Apache flying:
“I AM THE GREATEST!”
1990's movie 'Fire Birds' with Nicholas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones. That was a fun movie! May have to try and find it and rewatch it again.
@@erinh4184 yeah
And I was in Nam…in ‘68..
We are agile, mobile, and hostile!
My dads job in the Marines was to load bombs and missiles on aircraft. He said if commercial airlines ever needed a bomb loader, he was trained for it. He had a hard time finding a job after he left the Marines since he did not really learn anything practical in the service.
1 Megabyte. The entire AH64 interface, including the head mounted targeting system runs off a 1MB eeprom partition.
The two fellas that were talking in another language were Finnish.
Those rounds are electronically fired. They are perfectly safe to tap the back of the clip. Tapping the clip like that aligns the shells so that they feed into the cannon better.
Even if they were percussion fired it's fine to tap them on something that's flat. You just don't want to tap it on any kind of protrusions. Best would be a block of wood.
The "eye thing" is the targeting system. Nicolas Cage made a movie called Firebirds , it's like the Top Gun for Apaches
commonly referred to as a monicle. and yes, great movie. " I am the greatest...I am the greatest....I AM THE GREATEST !!! " ..... crash. LOL
It's more than the targeting system since it displays flight information and its what they use to see at night.
I live near a military base in Taiwan, and see flights of Apaches every few weeks flying over the city doing drills.
It takes a direct hit of 10 lbs or better to ignite the primer. Gently tapping the cartridge to align them is standard practice. Just like loading a magazine on the assault rifle and giving it a tap against your helmet to properly seat and ensure proper feed.
It's all almost certainly not going to go off. As an army veteran, I've loaded lots of different ammo. Including 120 mm tank rounds and mortar rounds. The biggest liability is ourselves. Which is why we take everything seriously. We train for everything including weapons loading and such. There are training rounds for just about every single weapon we have thats less lethal for training purposes so that way when the real thing comes everyone is prepared for any possible outcomes. Accidents do happen obviously, but it's very low. Most of the time it's human error too.
That 30mm chain gun aims where the pilots looks
You mean the gunner
@@pregnant9574 they both can fly and use the gun so it really doesn’t matter
Tapping the button. That’s one of the advantages of center fire vs rim fire. It’s safer to handle. The circle at the bottom of each round is the primer. A rim fire round can be set off much earlier since the entire base is the primer.
The monical allows the gunner and pilot to see exactly what the chin gun is pointed at. Usually in thermal or nightvision.
As for location, that looks like Ft.Campbell.
The rounds are electrically fired, not percussive fired.
The bit on his chest is a base piece of the Blackhawk disconnect system. The corresponding piece will be on the back of a holster. That way you can more freely pick the orientation and placement and take it off when needed, without having to faff with belts and mounts.
The "circle thing" in the center of his chest is the mount for a side arm holster. It allows you to orient the holster in multiple different ways without having to get different holsters to find the orientation that you want.
I live in Mesa, AZ and about 5 miles from me is Boeing plant home to the Apache helicopter. There is a small golf course just across from them called Longbow. I occasionally see them doing what I presume are test runs and I have to say I feel good knowing they are ours. We also see fighter jets flying quite a bit as Luke AFB is located on the west side of Phoenix. Again, I feel safer knowing they are there!
helicopter shoots wherever the pilot looks
@OriginalHuman - the monocle is a heads up display (also a cool fact is the helmet of the gunner is slaved to the 30-mm chain gun- so where he looks the cannon follows). As to the circular item on the gunners chest- that is a modular holster mount. Bonus fact if you look at all the items being loaded in, there is a "grounding" that is down with each (the hydra rockets are tapped on the canister, the rounds are tapped on the fuselage, etc)
The Apache helicopter is one of my favorite helicopters in the United States
The circle thing on his chest is a base for a pistol holster. I belive that is a sherpa. By Blackhawk holsters.
I was gonna comment but you beat me to it.. Serpa QD mount
The one-eye thing is for the 50-mil cannon and missile targeting system.
Oh my gosh. My fave helicopter. They work in pairs allegedly.
That eye thing is linked to the targeting system. The gun shoots where the weapons officer is looking.
Thank you for picking this! Your awesome. Find more videos man it didn't even scratch the surface of its capabilities and what it csn do! And if I'm not wrong. It may be IAF thats in that video
I'm pretty certain that if there were any chance of those rockets firing, the loader would not be standing directly in front of it...
Guy in the front of it runs the guns. Eye piece is the weapons. Which ever way he turns his head. His gun in the front turns that way.
It's a mix of HUD information, night vision, camera zoom and targeting information. The pilot and co-pilot usually have different information in their eye pieces.
The "Primer" on the bottom of the chain gun rounds are not normal primers... they are electrically fired, not percussion.
It started out covered. It would heat up and some times it could clog up.
A good friend of mine has been flying the Apache for 25 years.
He has 3 tours in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan, he is a literal terminator.
As an American, I'm glad we've "buried the hatched" with you Brits. I'd much rather have Royal armed forces supporting us than fighting us. The US is competent and has almost unlimited resources, but you Brits have kept your islands free of outside invaders (aside from raids and air raids) for over a thousand years. There's substantial institutional knowledge, even if the British military is vastly smaller than it was.
I'm just a civilian historian, but the military I'm most glad to have as our allies remains the British. Particularly, the Royal Navy. I hope our politicians remain smart enough to keep relations good long into the future.
As a Canadian of Scottish decent, you're "American" sounded to me a bit like an impersonation of Ewan McGregor doing an impersonation of an American accent 😂
"Goin' out for uh beer tonight?" had me in stitches. I love brit impersonations of the US accent. Freaking hilarious. Spot on.
The eye piece or monocle is the digital gun sight
JTAC 1 USAF (no helmet) 2 Dutch faces covered other cam pattern unknown. Probably Honfels, Germany.
by the way, there is no ejecting out of helicopters. There's a bit of an obstical above your head
me when i eject into an oversized blender
The Russian KA-50 and KA-52 have and ejection system it uses an explosive charge to remove the blades and then the pilot and gunner eject.
i knew someone would bring that thing up@@jtl05
@@jtl05 Yep, and sometimes it even kinda sorta works.
The eye thing is how the aim.
The "eye thing" guides the nose gun and the rocket pods they were loading were 2.75 FAR. Definitely do some research.
finnish flag on the helmet.
I believe that those shells are electrically fired rather than percussion. Racking them may not have an adverse effect.
Shhh. You'll make the former Royal Marine feel inferior to the US for finding out that the US invented Electricity with the help of Benjamin Franklin [citation missing,] and that this entire time he didn't need to keep rubbing two sticks together to start a fire to keep warm. We'll all agree the British invented gravity with Isaac Newton, but the US clearly invented electricity. 😆😆😆
Am I making a joke at the expense of Luke? Yeah, I am. Am I also possibly also poking fun at the British Royal Marines? Possibly. Am I practically signing myself up for an a*s beating from any and all British Royal Marines I ever meet from here on out by posting this comment? It's a greater that 0, but less than 100 percent chance.
Speaking of ordinance malfunctioning, look up the USS Forrestal fire
Its the same thing Ironman has on his chest😂
just going to ask a question here...so you guys never tapped your mags against your helmets before insertion to make sure the rounds were firmly seated ???
essentially that's all their doing with these by ' tapping ' them.
Regarding the rocket loading thing…even as a US Marine Infantry Officer…I agree 💯
No thank you.
03:38 the circle on his chest that you are referring to is a Quick disconnect mount for holsters and such; so you can click on different weapon systems, radios, knives whatever you want really as long as it has it's partner connector. Used them extensively in my department, they are 100% the money and time setting up.
The "one-eye thing" is presumably a monocular heads-up display. Since the guy wearing it is not the pilot, it's probably for weapons targeting. Ten to one he can aim the gun by turning his head, and the display probably gives him a crosshair.
The gunner is able to link their helmet to the movement of the gun, so wherever the gunner looks the gun aims
The front seat of the Apache is the gunner's seat and the one in the back is the pilot's seat. The gunner is also a pilot too. If something happens to the pilot the gunner can take control. The gunner seat also has flight controls. The Apache is a bad ass helicopter!!!
I'd never be able to do that job because it would drive me crazy doing all the work getting it ready and loading everything on it, but then I don't even get the fun of playing with it!
Check out the Nuck cage movie FIREBIRDS. It's Topgun for Apaches. Very cool and will teach you a lot
I used to be a little more concerned about rounds potentially going off by accident. Once I got into doing some reloading, I realized that primers are a lot more stable than I expected. Unless there is a protrusion on the surface, and you slam the round down really hard, it's not gonna explode.
Not interested in the back end eh? A man of culture
i would love to see some simulated dog fights in dcs ( digital combat simulator ) wich has the most realistic graphics and physics engine ever id recommend growling sidewinders channel he's done alot of videos with a real french air force pilot its really cool to see how strategic they are
Blows my mind how theyre showing this helicopters capabilities weapons etc. People who don't like our country can be watching this and they could try to build something to beat this weapon things like this should not be shown
The Apache D and Apache E are sensor based. What they can see, how they can see it and what they can do with what they see makes them more advanced than the F-35. For instance they already have the loyal wingman.
That thing on his eye is what helped Luke take out the Deathstar
I've had two close encounters, so to speak, with flying Apaches. One was at an airshow down here in Houston. They would have two of them pop up from behind the treeline on the opposite side of the performance area from the crowd. Even knowing they're on your side, your organs attempt to ball up and hide when this happens. The other time I was just getting up on an overpass on I-10 headed east. A single Apache was headed out to training headed east at an altitude of I couldn't tell you but well under 1000'. If I were to guess, it was between 200' and 500' When you crest an overpass and this thing is pointed at you, it takes everything you have to no just dead stop on the highway.
I'm not sure about these Apache rounds, but generally speaking when you see Blue ammunition, it is a training round. Normally inert, though it may be able to be fired, it usually has no explosive warhead.
origionalhuman - HELO tech sitting on ROCKET pods labeled "EXPLOSIVE" , LOL.
The 30mm gun on the Apache is actually externally powered by an electric motor driving the gun's action via a chain. The 25mm gun in the Bradley I believe is similar but can select between two different feeds one for AP and one for HE whichever the gunner selects for a particular type of target. You should check out the AH-56 Cheyenne, a groundbreaking helicopter gunship design that ultimately was not selected for production. : (
Those rounds are fire electrical so you can rack them with no worries
The round thing on his chest is used to hang a handgun on
Finnish language at 8 minute mark.
I encourage everyone to lookup a video on here called 'Apaches gone wild' - Shows a small group of marines lasering some target in Iraq and two Apache's just rotating with each other on fire runs and it's absolutely terrifying to see the insane power this thing puts out.
originalhuman - the Apache helo carries a portable Stinger gripstock & battery sized like a coffee can , if the helo crashes , and they are under attack, one of the Operators can remove a Stinger missile from the Launch tube , load it onto the Gripstock , TARGET the Enemy and FIRE. beware of BACKBLAST , however.
You made a comment about "ejection", there is none on this or most other helicopters.
Also the U.S. Apaches usually fly low as in 15 feet off the ground or lower. The Apaches are built to withstand crashes from that height.
We Yemenis are not afraid of the weapons of America, Britain, and even all the countries of the infidel West... because we are simply born to the sounds of bullets, and the first thing our newborn is thrown to the ground is thrown next to a rifle... and we have a weapon, which is a deadly weapon that no infidel person can possess. .. Indeed, it is the weapon of faith in God, the Powerful, the Mighty, the Omnipotent, above the worship of Him whom we fear only.
Most targets die before they know what hit them so being scared of them is like being scared one will have a stroke. It'll just happen and the victim won't know it.
Apaches remind me of a wasp in a cool way lol.
Finnish flag on the back of the helmet.
There’s no way he just said in case they need to eject from a heli
Straight into the blades mate. Apparently it helps with headaches.
Bro, I didn’t even catch that the first time😂😂
He ain’t technically wrong while the Apache dosent have one some other helicopters do like the ka-52
I would think the wire they connected was so the pilot could fire it.
This video is cool, but seriously do some research. People are maybe 5% as terrified of the Apache longbow as they should be.
What's really interesting, should be kind of a "no, duh" factoid, but it's also a surprising thing to find out is that most helicopters are generally solidly geared between the main rotor and the tail rotor. As in you cannot spin one without spinning the other. You'd think that that'd be obvious, but then you think about how they actually yaw and it's done by both the tail rotor and the counter rotation of the top prop. So, I mean. It's interesting to know that military helicopters are engineered to do such quick changes of spinning the top rotor and tail rotor fast to get speed to slowing down the top rotor and speeding up the tail rotor to yaw one way or speeding up the top rotor and slowing down the tail rotor to yaw the other way. It's like rubbing your head and patting your belly or whatever that combo is, but you're able to also throw in drawing a square with one hand and a triangle with the other between swapping between the two.
You can tap rounds no problem. The primers are recessed.
You had to have heard of the RMCs that took a ride on the outside of the apache right?
It was my troop. Right before I arrived they just got back from doing that haha
@@OriginalHuman I remember first hearing about that years ago. Crazy bastards lol
I very much appreciate the fast forward through the fluff.
No expert but we tapped the 5.56 to make sure it was seated…so it will chamber cleanly…
This video showed nothing of the Apache or its specifications and capabilities.
If the 30mm are like the 20mm for M61 cannon, they are electrically fired. Also those rounds need to be aligned to prevent misfeed, hence 'smacking' them on a flat surface. And you do not want to hit the nose of the rounds. Practice rounds and some others are 'safe', but a contact detonator would make your day very bad.
Your videos are always entertaining!
3:50 just watch the movie firebirds with nic Cage 😂😂
The one eye thing works with the 30mm cannon
It's basically a HUD with night vision for both member plus other data depending on if they are the pilot or co-pilot.
Check out the movie Firebirds it goes into some of the systems in the Apache
Several countries have it, including your country. Also, a couple of other countries got contracts to get it.
When you were living in Maine, did they say you were "From Away" ?
Australia are getting them, well armed, but could do with more range, for our environment
Training at Fort Rucker in Alabama
You see it mostly in Vietnam War movies…
That was a good American accent in my opinion
Camo, I’m guessing it looks like Finnish M05
How can someone have been in the military and know absolutely nothing about any of the equipment operating around them?
American paper tigers that can only fight Libya and Syria
Probably North Carolina I'm talking about the Apache 🚁 one more thing it's a need to know you don't need to know
America is the Great Satan... America is the mother of terrorism
Yep,very proud Infidel here
Apaches don't have ejection seats. That would result in chopped up pilots. ;)
Actually some helicopters do have ejection seats small explosive blow the rotor blades away before the pilots eject
@@freedomefighterbrony9053right, but not the Apache (which is what I stated) because you couldn't blow away its rotors, Different design.
I may not be an expert but i believe its a wz .93 pantera polish camo or maybe finnish i dont know what language
Those green guys sounded Finnish or Swedish
Better not having an america accent then having like mine. My English accent is a mix of german, american, scotish, Irish and australian for absolutely no reason xD
