ive just starting taking mct from watching these videos by thomas and i like it. im doing a ketovore for weight loss and i eat my meals between 2 and 4pm. ill take the mct after the meal like Thomas suggests and it helps to get through the last part of the day when most people get tired. and it boosts my energy to get home and continue projects. if i take too much mct after the meal lik2 gulps ive noticed ill be all jittery and roll around in the bed and i have a hard time getting my brain to slow down and sleep. but if i just take a sip of mct its just right. i think during eating our hormones rise and it knocks us out of fasting and after the meal the mct kind of sets the stage to jump into fasting again sooner. without mct maybe it would take 4 hours to reach the same state that would take an hour when consuming mct after a meal. so maybe we are getting the earlier stages of fasting done sooner and getting more time with the more powerful later stages. this is how i understand it from watching these videos

This morning I was about 60 hours into an extended fast, and I watched this video and wanted to see what would happen if I consumed some MCT oil Here are the results: 6:30 am - Glucose 78, Ketones 1.9, GKI 2.2 7:30 am - Started drinking 2 cups of black coffee and 1 tablespoons of MCT oil (1 tablespoon in each cup) 12:30 pm - Glucose 80, Ketones 4.5, GKI 0.9 I have never seen my GKI go under 1 before, and it feels a little odd. There is probably no reason to ever do this again, but the results are interesting. The readings I got at 6:30 am are similar to the readings I started seeing about 24-36 hours into the fast and what I saw yesterday. MCT can really boost ketones, at least for me!
@@CursedWheelieBin Not really sure. However, I found it interesting that he talked about how MCT oils practically bypass digestion and go straight to the liver and how some people think that MCT oils do not break a fast, but then he asserted that he still thinks that MCT oils break a fast. I wonder why? By the way, I imagine that taking MCT oil during a fast when you already have high ketone levels is probably not the best thing for weight loss. You want those ketones coming from body fat, and it seems like creating ketones from MCT oil could defer weight loss. On the other hand, my ketones went from 1.9 to 4.5, so maybe the effect is cumulative. It would be interesting if a person started a fast, got to a moderate ketone level burning body fat, spiked their ketones by consuming MCT oil (as I did), then continued to take MCT oil every few hours for a couple days. Would the ketones stay elevated, or return to some sort of baseline?
@@airplaychay1612 I do this some days, taking a little additional keto coffee during my work day, instead of keto fat bombs. It satiates hunger, while giving a lot of brain fuel. Ketones stay high, insulin stays moderate to low. I notice the boost effect from high ketones, particularly when reading and absorbing difficult material, and in generating novel solutions to problems. I think that what is happening is that the brain is given access to both glucose and ketone energy sources at the same time, and neurotransmitters are getting a boost as well from moderate caffeine levels. I think Thomas DeLauer is saying that it technically breaks a fast because you likely get a temporary minor insulin rise that comes even when eating no carb items, and it will slow fat being broken down into ketones for a while, since the body will sense high ketones and down-regulate fat cell sourced ketogenesis. There is also some discussion over it’s impact on autophagy, but unless you’re doing extended fasting beyond 18 hours, it may not be an issue for you. Regarding fat loss, I think that it does mean that when taking MCTs you are pulling less fat for fuel than if you didn’t consume anything. Yet, extra ketones will not go to fat storage but will be passed out of the system, which is why it can be measured in the urine. But, you’ll be far less hungry and I still notice a gradual fat loss…and I like gradual because I’m looking for sustainable and easy permanent lifestyle changes, rather than fast fixes that don’t work in the long run. You are still preventing or remediating metabolic disease and stabilizing insulin, all while getting a brain boost. It’s a good deal and another available option, one that you can cycle and change from day to day.
Can someone help? I have a half marathon this weekend and want to use mct oil but I’m actually afraid of effects such as the big D if you know what I mean. Can the mct cause dia….. during my race?

Hey there! I went to purchase some of that MCT oil powder from perfect keto like you recommended, and then looking at the ingredients, the first thing on there says “natural flavors”… What else I’ve learned on TH-cam is that is a danger zone. That companies can pretty much put whatever they want under natural flavors. Can you confirm what exactly that is??… have you talked to anybody over there, since you’re so buddy buddy with them?😂😂😂
I bought some Medium-chain Triacylglycerides (“MCT”) at your recommendation. I put 1 tablespoon in a smoothie. However, I got sick! So gross. Tastes terrible! I became nausea and an upset stomach. Is this normal?
Start out with a half teaspoon. First time I took it, I used too much and felt like I was going to throw up. Try it in coffee with half and half, it's much better.....then work your way up.Takes time for your system to get used to it.
Autophagy seems to be dependent on protein consumption, scavenging it from damaged cells as the body requires it. MCT fat adds calories but not protein. I would guess that fasting for autophagy with MCTs is still valid
It will lessen because it contains calories. Autophagy triggered by fasting is depended on forcing the body to use endogenous energy stored which enables cellular recycling. You will still get the benefits of ketosis though.
@@littlevoice_11 I use different types of fasting for different purposes, depending on what I am doing. For weight loss, I focus on insulin control and carbs. MCT has minimal effect here. For autophagy, I either fast longer eliminating all protein, impacting mTOR (fasting mimicking.) or I use compounds like Sulfuraphane. Are u sure this the wrong way to think about this?
@@bhspitbull9271this sounds sensible but all calories will break a fast. The rest is spot on for your goals. MCT has many benefits and I suppose to be safe (and based on the research) if autophagy was a goal then i would only include any calories within my calorie window. Obviously some macros have a greater effect. MCT seems to be less impactful to slip into a fast, but it is still a source of fuel so still will stop your body from using it's own stored fuel for weight loss and cellular recycling (technically)
Where I just want clarity is if you should be taking it with food in your stomach or not, because I'm hearing and seeing both. So for myself, I go to the gym in the morning, usually on an empty stomach, and then have a protein shake right after. Would it be best and more effective to have MCT oil first thinv in the morning with my coffee before my workout, or after the workout in my smoothie?

ive just starting taking mct from watching these videos by thomas and i like it. im doing a ketovore for weight loss and i eat my meals between 2 and 4pm. ill take the mct after the meal like Thomas suggests and it helps to get through the last part of the day when most people get tired. and it boosts my energy to get home and continue projects. if i take too much mct after the meal lik2 gulps ive noticed ill be all jittery and roll around in the bed and i have a hard time getting my brain to slow down and sleep. but if i just take a sip of mct its just right. i think during eating our hormones rise and it knocks us out of fasting and after the meal the mct kind of sets the stage to jump into fasting again sooner. without mct maybe it would take 4 hours to reach the same state that would take an hour when consuming mct after a meal. so maybe we are getting the earlier stages of fasting done sooner and getting more time with the more powerful later stages. this is how i understand it from watching these videos
MCT oil is really high in fat and calories. No matter what the diet is telling you, the only way to lose body fat is to have a calorie deficit. And adding an extra 200 cal a day in my coffee seems to me like it’s a recipe for weight gain.
I've been taking it after my last meal of the day to boost my ketones going into my fast. It seems to be working to keep my ketones elevated.
PS: My baseline seems to be a LOT higher, since I started doing this last week. It's a BIG DEAL for me.
Thanks for the tip 🤝
Good video Thomas!
Those of us in the natural body building community new about the benefits of consuming MCT oil for high intensity training in the 1990s. In 1993, Bill Philips published an article in his magazine, Muscle Media 2000, and consequently, also sold it via his mail order shop.
I just said this as he was 2 mins in. I used back in 90s

This is great info, but I wish you would discuss how to start ingesting MCT oil and how much you can consume at the max amount and frequency.

Ok lesson learned about MCT oil, Well seemed to me would make a great base for home made salad dressing. Has no taste or smell so i used 3/4 cup MCT to 1/4 olive oil in my homemade zesty italian dressing. Apparently you dont want to use it in large doses as it turns your arse into a fire hose. Been putting a tsp in my coffee every morning without issue.
Have you noticed any weight loss? It would seem to me that adding that extra large amount of fat & calories would contribute to weight gain. If you were trying to lose weight, there’s no other way to do it then to be in a calorie deficit.

I am having a hard time taking MCT oil. It is causing diarrhea most of the time. I take between 1 tsp to 1 tbsp with coffee or matcha powder or in a meal. I’m old (73) but in good health. I’m on a keto diet and intermittent fast everyday. The diet and fasting have been going great for 2 1/2 months and I’ve lost about 32 lbs so far (268 down to 236). @@healthhollow7218 I just got through looking at a TH-cam video with dr. Gundry talkin about MCT oil and its role in something called unlocking mitochondria. Now I need a cute little flask. OK, I’ll just do capsules. BTW, Bulletproof has little packages of MCT.

If I take MCT oil more than 2-3 days in a row I get really bad acne, anyone else have this happen?
If I use the MCT oil, can I still use a small amount of fat free milk in my coffee/ice coffee, or it replaces the fat free milk? Can I use a flavor in the coffee, or will that counter act the MCT ???
This morning I was about 60 hours into an extended fast, and I watched this video and wanted to see what would happen if I consumed some MCT oil Here are the results:
6:30 am - Glucose 78, Ketones 1.9, GKI 2.2
7:30 am - Started drinking 2 cups of black coffee and 1 tablespoons of MCT oil (1 tablespoon in each cup)
12:30 pm - Glucose 80, Ketones 4.5, GKI 0.9
I have never seen my GKI go under 1 before, and it feels a little odd. There is probably no reason to ever do this again, but the results are interesting. The readings I got at 6:30 am are similar to the readings I started seeing about 24-36 hours into the fast and what I saw yesterday. MCT can really boost ketones, at least for me!
Do you think that’s because MCT oil kinds bypasses the usual digestion process?
(don’t ask me how though)
@@airplaychay1612
I do this some days, taking a little additional keto coffee during my work day, instead of keto fat bombs.

What happens to autophagy with the MCT oil?
Good question. If you have fuel of any kind, your body burns it first.I would think it delays autophagy. Not a doctor tho.
@@littlevoice_11
I use different types of fasting for different purposes, depending on what I am doing.
