Overall car sales haven't recovered from 2020. Looking at past economic disasters (1990, 2008), it takes about 8 years for sales to recover fully.
Compared to 2014, EV sales have been taking a larger and larger amount of the automobile market.

@@RandallJamesPeterson Overall car sales peaked near the year 2000 and will likely never reach such a quantity again. Each 'recovery' has peaked lower than the last.
The increase in BEV market share is slowing. At some point, it will stop increasing and I'm willing to bet that BEV market share wont ever exceed 20%, unless that's forced by the government. With the national debt growing in the way that it is, how much more government intervention in the market can Americans afford?

I think your (difficult) task is to get government thinking not just Globally, but from the correct perspective.
I've said elsewhere, there's a new game starting and USA has a choice to participate, or not.
      The problem?
A country used to being "Top Dog" is going to have to accept that is , or will be no longer the case, mainly due to those like Mr Kelly preventing change over the last 2 decades.
The BEST choice for the government (Small "g") and the country?
INVITE the Chinese EVs IN... BUT under similar terms as they require (required) for US manufacturers.
It's the ONLY way to catch up rapidly.
      Otherwise?
China will take the US allocation and divert that to the rapidly growing BRICS collective (20+ countries are "interested"?)
      .
      Question.
What happens if countries comprising 75% of Global population join that community?
      The PetroDollar? UNSUSTAINABLE?
General Trade? China will be fine, previously "3rd World" countries will embrace the new technologies (supplied by ....China) and move towards energy self sufficiency. They will build High Speed Rail everywhere (Chinese) Solar/ Storage? Guess who? etc.
China will be dealing in Asia, India (IF India has any sense) Africa (The WHOLE Continent) The majority of South America.
      USA?
As an outside observer, I find the timing of Bill H.R 8070 "Coincidental"... Almost as though somebody thinks there may be a "Conflict" on the horizon?

You can barely say they incentivize them as well given as not many apply for the subsidies. I did it cuz I'm a cheap bastard, and I love having 600hp and instant torque, and have saved, according to some quick excel math, around $16k in running costs in 5 years including gas, oil changes, air filters, spark plugs etc (and I did all this maintenance myself, probably would be $20k if I had some stealership do it), and that's not including insurance. Meanwhile my EV's largest expenses are insurance and tires. Electricity costs have been negligible, especially with my free nights electrical plan. I'm not ever going to a gas car again, until I can afford a proper track car, that is.

America had EVs on almost every road in almost every city. They were called trams. They were torn up on the false promise that automobiles could replace them -- they couldn't. Instead, to accommodate cars, every city has since been repeatedly bisected by ever-expanding highways, and every street turned into glorified parking lots. The benefit is clear: every individual now has the false freedom of a choice: to either be stuck in place, girt by an inescapable prison of highways, or to pay tens of thousands more for a personal vehicle than they would have to keep trams running. Regardless of their choice, the individual pays exorbitant tax to support the increasing obesity of the roads; widening in vein hopes of reducing congestion only to make it worse, cracking and shattering under the weight of our vehicles.

Mr Perry - we love our used EV Kona. It's 3 years old, 30K miles when we bought it, like new.Options beyond what we normally need in a car. We've driven it all over our state and even did a multi-state road trip when fetching it home. No problems. Was cheaper than even the majority of the "economy" cars out there. When our V6 SUV reaches 200K miles, we'll replace that with a larger EV suitable for a bit of towing and even longer trips. We're not going back to ICEV daily drivers. We mostly charge at home or our relative's home across the state when we visit them paying them for our electricity. Even when we travel out of town, the EV shines. We have found the chargers most convenient to our needs and return to them each time we need a quick charge - normally only 20-25 minutes. Seldom need to do a full charge.
