Chemistry is not alchemy but instead it's part of it.
People don't realise the old age science wasn't always about the material world, it was the study of both the material and non material (spiritual) world. That's why modern science couldn't understand the work of ancient Egypt, Greek, Indians, Ethiopians... some scientists like Nikola Tesla also said if science starts studying both the material and non material world, it can achieve in a year what it couldn't do in a century.

The age of alchemy is definitely not over. People working in nanotechnology, graphene, photography, circuit board etching, and batteries are all doing the work of alchemy in the modern era. And that’s on top of the solitary types trying to visit the interior of the earth rectifying inside the hidden stone.

Alchemy will never be over because of what you stated as Cartesian science today being distanced from the meta-physical. On "transmutation": once purported quantum thresholds are achieved, nano science will achieve transmutation of base metals into noble metals.

Basically alchemy is a mixture of beliefs and science.
Well some of it's principle is also embedded in science as well.
I watch an historical documentary that alchemy is responsible for the development of modern science.
Scientist and historians say that if alchemy never existed modern technology will never exist.

Regarding 2:24, Gold has been successfully man made. In 1980, gold was made by a team of scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. Nuclear chemists Glenn T. Seaborg, David J. Morrissey and Walter D. Loveland used a high energy nuclear particle accelerator known as the Bevalac which transmutated bismuth into gold. The process is known as “Chrysopoeia”.

Being an alchemist for over 30 years, I have written a major work on alchemy, covering 5 zodiacs, the Western (which deals with the creation of the body, earth), the Chinese ( which adds the mental/mind aspect to alchemical forge, air), the psychological ( which adds the thinking and processing energy to my alchemy, this also incudes my own version of the tarot deck, water), the metaphysical and spiritual zodiac (this adds the deeper and introspective element to the work, it is the energy of fire), these 4 zodiacs move up the body from earth chakra to gnostic chakra, with 11 chakras in between it is also about levels of energy, from 1 at the earth chakra, with a 0 being added for each subsequent chakra, so that when we hit the gnostic chakra we have an energy of 1 followed by 12 zeros, so its 1,000,000,000,000, giving us a very powerful energy source, the trick is then to circulate into and through the body and beyond. The fifth zodiac is the transcendental zodiac it is on the horizontal and is the same energy of 1 to 13, but with the added energy of distance, so the base chakra correlates to 1 to the power of 1, the distance energy doubles each time, so the second sign in the transcendental zodiac is 10 to the power of two. it ends of course with the energy and distance of the gnostic chakra a figure of 1,000,000,000,000 to the power of 4096, this is the quintessence energy. When completed it is possible to read and continue the journey for life. I have seen my own work as being about 200 years ahead of its time, I am naturally rewriting and adapting the work as I naturally grwo and expand my awareness, it is by its nature a constant evolution, a constant refining in the crucible of the self, since I really believe that is what is the essence of alchemy, to create and recreate the self, through a natural blending of ALL aspects of being human and alien, male and female, old and young all at the same time. It is also about going beyond everything, to become a true pan dimensional being, doing. As there have always been alchemists and those pursuing the alchemical dream, there will always be those that follow, each one adding to the whole corpus of alchemy, so it is constantly evolving and morphing into whatever it wants to become.

That somehow recalls the One Ring, as well.
Alchemy sounds amazing, except if it doesn't fall into safe hands.
Think about lead transmuted into gold by nefarious hands without introspection and wisdom to begin with.

Ever heard of a Santa Claus Machine, Molecular Assembler or Nanites, while most of those devices make appearances in speculative fiction more often than not, some of them do in fact exist today while not on the same level as what we see in movies and animes... but we do have 3d printers which only grow in capability by the year, and we can employ them from the construction of houses, to the preparation of food, even to the making of guns, if that is not enough to make you believe that the Philosopher's Stone is nothing more than an eventuality (heck one day magic itself might become real for all we know, though i think IT might end up looking like something out of warhammer rather than what Hollywood has made us believe in our youth)i don't know what else to say.

"Science is a rigorous, systematic endeavor that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the world."
Technically, science is not the opposite of magic and vice versa. The opposite of science is ignorance. Topics that are rebuked by scientists are still studied objectively. In terms of magic in fiction, something is not anti-science unless it is something like wild magic. Ritual magic in fiction could be considered by scientists.
