  • This is a “how to” on diagnosing and repairing a P2033 and a P2032 EGT SENSOR 2 circuit codes.
    I will show you where the sensor is located, how to ohm it out and check the wiring on the truck for proper voltage. This procedure can be use for all EGT sensors on the truck. Wire colours may be different but they will all have 5V on one wire and GROUND on another.
    RESISTANCE SPEC IS 220 OHMS
    When checking wiring on truck side
    Set multimeter to ohms setting and go from one pin to battery negative, of reading is high go to other pin and the reading should drop. The lowest resistance number should be GROUND
    Then set your multimeter to VOLTS DC and test from pin on connector that is not ground to battery negative It should have close to 5 volts on the wire.

    thank you for this much needed info. I have a 2015 Silverado 2500 duramax that had the code 2033 thrown about 10 days ago. On my diagnostic meter it listed bank 1 sensor 2.
    I left the truck sitting in my lower driveway during that time until I had some extra time to research it. I found your video and found it very helpful. I ordered the part so now I wait for it to be delivered and for the rain to stop so I can get the truck on dry ground to make the repair. Again, thank you for this video. very informative.

    From what I read the resistance corolates to the temp,higher the temp higher the resistance.

    as another circuit wiring integrity / ecm test can't you short the 5v & ground together in the truck side harness while looking at the scan tool and you will see the opposite extreme of the temp values, IE if the temp shows -50 with it unplugged it might show + 2000 with it shorted or vise versa, I don't know the exact values, this way it loads the circuit, can always check another sensor harness terminal to compare values and get a known good value

    • @screamindieselltd
      @screamindieselltd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could possibly do that but you may throw more codes for other modules that are on that reference circuit. Cummins are bad for that with their viscous fan clutches killing the 5v reference and taking out the whole communication system till you unplug the right part then it comes back and everything communicates again.

    best video by far for p2033!!!! ive got an L5p (2018).... I cant find the EGT sensor 2, it is reading way high temp like 1800 degree while the others are all normal and low. and advice would be helpful, im struggling trying to find part and exact location... (when i do find it, i wonder are ohms and volts the same even though its a different plug i believe)

      Sounds like sensor 2 is just the second one back from the turbo. Number one is right after the turbo so number 2 would be the next one.

    I have a 2007 Silverado 2500 Duramax, I currently have the check engine light on with the P2033 code and also going into limp mode and blowing a big cloud of black smoke.
    I'm wondering if the black smoke is happening due to the Code my truck has?? I do also have some stored codes (P0546 and P0299) seems like they are all related.
    Anyway... after seeing this video I'm going to order the sensor for my truck and hopefully, that takes care of the issue and maybe corrects the other codes.

      You might have to cycle the def heaters since you replaced the level sensor. They are usually part of that assembly
