  • We have a 2018 Chevy Silverado Duramax that keeps going into Reduced Power mode but doesn't set any codes in the ECM.

Your vast knowledge on how those systems work is simply staggering. The fact you knew that someone had to actually remove the option for the computer to set that code left me gobsmacked. A mere mortal would never have figured that out. Another great video.

Jake thanks for sharing. Appreciate how you explain your troubleshooting and how the system works. I hate when people take shortcuts and do sloppy repairs. Damn just by a portable soldering iron and shrink rap. Nice work enjoy your weekend. Artie 👍

Great thought process, straight to the point, Jake! Many of these odd faults result from someone else's careless jobs. ECM not reporting pressure sensor connection fault didn't help either.

Jake, hope you didn't get too wet putting that truck back together. I really like the way you work down to the problem as well as your explanation. I put a couple of but connectors in my car and they worked fine for about a year. I believe I'll be going back in with a soldering iron because the vehicle is starting to act up again. Swallowing my pride! Thanks for Sharing!

Good one for sure. I'm wondering if there was a problem with those but connections and just handling it could have corrected the issue, well temporally anyway. love your strategy of using your scan data to prove out circuit
integrity! Nice to see a diagnostics procedure without the scope. Keep up the good work Jake! Thank you for all your video content!

I’ve ran across this issue with a tuned 2016 corvette once. I used HP tuners to go through all of the DTCs to see what all was disabled and reenabled some DTCs that shouldn’t have been turned off. Some people need to learn a little bit more about tuning before they just start disabling DTCs at random. The heat shrink butt connectors are fine when done properly but those stupid solder loaded butt connectors are trash. They don’t flow like they should and are a horribly designed product. I like to solder but I have no problems with butt connectors when used with a proper crimping tool and heat shrink.

Had the same exact experience, replaced EBCM, sent new ECM for tuning, replaced lower engine wiring harness, fuse block on both sides of engine bay and it finally was good for a year. Now the problem is back. I’m gonna check that connection at the pressure sensor and see if that pigtail has a bad connection. But being the fact the truck is tuned and deleted has nothing to do with a bad connection at the fuel pressure sensor

Nice job Jake! I sensed the obvious frustration of repairing someone's attempted hacks. I don't like touching diesels either for the same reasons. Most of the time when I open the hood, I see parts missing and connectors unplugged. I cringe.
That's when you want to charge double. Engineers design these parts for a reason. Diesel's have plenty of power to begin with. Leave them alone! Thanks again for sharing your experience and time.

I don’t think it’s about power when people delete emissions. It’s all the problems they cause. I watched a video on a 2023 Ram with the Cummins that broke down with 1500 miles with emission system problems.

people dont understand in the old days before electronics you could do crimp connectors. the circuit ran in amps and a small volt drop did little if anything to affect the circuits. now with electronics signal circuits are miliamps. there are still circuits you can get by with crimps but anything that goes to a computer or module NO!!!!!

Great video, I have a 2018 Sierra Denali just bought 3 weeks ago. Today it had the sudden loss of power with the Engine reduced power alert. So, I check def and it was ok. When I started back up power returned, and message is gone. I have the check engine light still on. I guess I'm off to the parts store to get a new code reader, after I check the connections.
