Kaiba is getting a new structure deck called "Advent of the Eyes of Blue" and I think Yami Yugi is getting a new OCG set pack called "Supreme Darkness".
I remember the original launch of yugioh when i was in elementary school. I begged my mom to buy me the yugi structure deck and my best friend got the kiba one. We played just like the anime, no tributes no spell speeds, activate whatever whenever, our favorite card would tank an attack just because. I moved away a year later and we traded our favorite cards as a symbol of our friendship. I still have his blue-eyes in my binder 20+ years later.
God, I feel such nostalgia seeing those first starter decks haha. It was my dad who got me the Yugi Starter Deck back in 2002. I remember we were on the way back from Tampa. If you know Florida, well… let’s just say there isn’t.. a whole lot to see on long drives lol. I was BORED as heck. Anyways, we’d stopped at a gas station to fill up the tank and get some snacks. I remember seeing a display of a few different TCGs on the counter close to the cashier. Yugi’s design really drew my attention. I somehow convinced dad to get the deck for me, and I just read through all the card descriptions (and the manual, too!) At the time, my English wasn’t the best (first language is Spanish) so I probably didn’t get 100% of the rules. Still, it made for a memorable ride home. I brought the deck with me back to Ecuador, where I used to live. It wasn’t long before I saw the first episode of the anime on TV and I remember thinking “oh man it’s that game!” Or something like that haha. The game soon gained popularity through middle school and well… the rest was history. I remember my best friend had actually managed to get his own starter deck: it was Kaiba’s. I think these were the times when some of the aspects of the show were reflected in our lives. In regards to YGO, I almost came to see him as my rival, much like Yugi and Kaiba. Our duels weren’t one-sided either. Though I never kept exact track of it myself, it did feel that for every win I had on him, he’d get his own win later and vice-versa. I think that, this story aside, the reason I feel a good chunk of nostalgia for the Yugi deck is that it was THE deck I had used as a base to build on for YEARS. I’d take cards in and out of it as I got my hands on newer cards. By 2008 you could hardly tell the deck had started as a Yugi deck. There were very few telltale cards like Change of Heart and Monster Reborn… but most of the others I had changed. It’s kinda corny to say but despite all the changes I made to that deck over the years, it still felt like it had the “spirit” of what it had started as. Apologies for the long comment! Your video just took me down memory lane haha.
I'm on Kaiba team too but we've got to admit that the other one has the ability to save the world using grandpa's pathetic cards! Now that's a skill if you ask me😂❤
I’m a Kaibagirl! Blue-Eyes anytime and anyday! And I look forward to the new coming Blue-Eyes structure deck with the Level 12 Synchro Blue-Eyes mon. 💖💖💖
I owned the original structure decks and actually haven't played since 2003. Blue Eyes White Dragon has always been my favorite and is actually what made me love this channel.
I’m a big fan of how synergistic Yugi’s mismatched cards seem to play together. But I really appreciate how Kaiba puts such thought into the strategy of his cards.
Cool to see these all on one video! As a kid i bought the starter decks yugi, kaiba, joey, pegasus, yugi ev. and kaiba ev. Aside from a handful of boosters that was the bulk of my collection. Some good cards in those decks!
It's unlikely but it'll be great if they released a gold sarc structure deck together with the new blue eyes structure deck for another Yugi vs Kaiba product but with modern viable cards
I usually never pick the side of an antagonist but Kaiba has always been a favorite of mine. Blue eyes and its support have been some my favorite cards. Im looking forward to Blue Eyes White Destiny.
I remember getting the yugi upgrade deck for the black luster soldier promo card on the front. I even remember forgetting that card in my shorts one day and letting it go through the wash 😂🤦♂️💀
Omg the nostaliga is hitting hard. I remember i got that very first kaiba starter deck for birthday. I was like 6 or 7. I was so happy back then and was just running around with the box in hand that only was holding the blue eyes. I still to this day have that very same blue eyes and still run him in my deck just as a lucky charm.
Give us toon fusions, Konami! Toon relinquished too! No more attack restrictions and maybe give us some retrains for manga ryu ran, toon alligator, and dark rabbit
Its crazy to think I literally got all of these besides the final 2 as a kid. My mom worked at Toys R Us and would bring me home packs and decks. Feels like yesterday but turns out to be 20 yrs ago🤣
When I was like 11 years old, me and my buddy thought it would be fun to go in the Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. I bought the original Yu-Gi-Oh starter, he bought the other starter, we got first and second place. Lol
I really wish we hadn't gotten new artwork for the Dark Magician and Blue Eyes White Dragon. The OG artwork is top-tier, and it's so difficult to find them now.
My very first card was BEWD. Well, technically it was the whole deck, but that one was on top so it was the first as far as I'm concerned. I'm more or less retired from playing now, but I love my BEWD and Dark Magician cards, they're some of my favourite decks to play.
So I’ve managed to play both types of deck’s structure, and while Kaiba’s is more of an OTK type of game, I like the movement and diversity of strategies the yugi decks gave

My mom actually had a store that sold yugio and pokemon and magic cards so as a kid i had more cards then i knew what to do with but i remember getting the two original structure decks and i used them and built one awesome starter deck with the best of the two

I'm glad Konamis just phased out Starter Decks in favor of Structure Decks since you can theoretically just buy three of the same one and have a decently competitive deck. Will it win you a YCS? Probably not but it's a good foundation to build off of.

It's crazy how the Yugi and Kaiba starter decks first came out in the west only a month after Legends of Blue Eyes and they almost entirely make that set irrelevant. It was the only way to get Summoned Skull and La Jinn, it has basically all of the removal available except for Raigeki, multiple 2000 defense no-tribute monsters, and pot of greed. Raigeki and Exodia were basically the only cards to try to open LoB for.
@TeamAPS it really was such a bad set. I don't envy the team that had to localize the first few years of OCG Yugioh into one set while also pushing out recent cards that entirely invalidated those cards. As a kid I didn't know what cards were in what products really or have a good sense of good vs bad cards, but reflecting back on it after years of playing Magic it's kind of crazy to me that new cards were introduced in precons at all. In magic, all precons contain cards from the corresponding set only and usually none of the standout good ones, though they would sometimes have common or uncommon staples. Magic didn't start introducing brand new cards in precons until the commander precons were introduced in 2011 (18 years after the game was released) and any new cards in commander products are legal in Legacy and Vintage only, leaving Standard and Modern untouched. The fact that yugioh released meta defining staples in starter decks is crazy, especially when you consider other staples were exclusive to special packs only given out in tournaments. The only time Magic did anything that bad was making Mana Crypt exclusively available as a promo for buying early Novels.
The LOB sets never hit proper retail here (just outside of Toronto). So getting them from a tin, always felt disappointing when it had already been severely powercrept by the starter deck and metal raiders.
I like Yugi more but Kaiba has a lesser number of iconic monsters which means his decks are more filled with strange picks and obscure monsters that make his more interesting
I chose Kaiba because I wanted Blue Eyes but Yugi Starter Deck was flat out way better just more balance and support iirc. But Blue Eyes goes brrr, so, it's really a toss up.
