  • Week 2 using short pips on my backend after making the recent switch to the DARK SIDE of table tennis...
    Second lesson with my coach Lingshuai Meng at Seattle Pacific Table Tennis Club.
    Timestamps:
    0:00 - Forehand
    1:40 - 2 point forehand
    4:20 - Short pips
    5:18 - Short pips blocking
    6:37 - Short pips "instant power"
    7:38 - Short pips serve return
    10:12 - Multiball: BH loop → BH punch
    11:30 - Multiball: FH push → FH loop → BH punch
    15:18 - Short pips blocking
    17:50 - SP punch vs underspin

    A good reference for SP BH is Yu Shao. One of if not the best SP BH player in the US. Short pips is one of those things that brings a lot to the table, but requires a lot of adjustment from playing with smooth rubbers. They are especially strict on timing and racket angle

      Your coach is doing a good job. For professional reference, Tang Peng and Tan Ruiwu have been the last notable sp bh players in my recent memory. But there are also a lot of good Korean and Japanese youtube videos concerning usage of sp bh out there as well

      @@WorthlessGeek appreciate the detailed response! Do you know if there's much difference with medium pips? In Chinese, this rubber is classified as "raw rubber" or medium pips but the website says short pips. There doesn't seem to be much spin disruption from what i can tell...

      Thanks man. At my peak, 415 squat, 320 bench, 550 deadlift (sumo)
