  • 50 RARE & RANDOM HISTORICAL PHOTOS FROM THE 50s to the 80s
These photographs all tell stories about the historical figures or events that they represent. Once taken simply to document their present, they now help us witness the past. From historical landmarks and famous people to the basic daily routines of the past, these pictures portray the past in a way that we can empathize with and understand more intimately.

Growing up I often thought I was born in the wrong century, but looking back at these old pictures I see now I was wrong to think that because those were the days, I sure miss them!

At that point in time Buzz Aldrin did not know he would be going to the Moon.. He is 91 years old now... If I remember correctly he did a few touch and goes at Bradley Airport while I was working on Runway 6. Had to clear the runway so he could go by...

Who would have thought that the library books of Prince George County would have bed bugs in the bindings by the twenty first century!

Around 8:30 Not sure where it is but i don't believe that you will see a Catholic church and a swiss Supermarket chain ( Migros) in the background of a photo taken at Istanbul, Turkey!

How I don't miss the days when everybody just smoked whenever and wherever they happened to be.

Back in the 50s, 60s & 70s people didn't lose a day smoking but they lost a lot of days.

I was born in 1953 and I personally loved the 50s and 60s probably because I didn't have to go to work
But I agree about the smoking my dad was ex royal navy and smoked untipped Senior Service and John Players and I've hated the smell of cigarettes all my life, killed him at 56 riddled with cancer

@@CB1000FP1 - I was born in 1952 and it’s a wonder that I never smoked. Both my parents smoked as did four of my older siblings. It didn’t bother me when I was a kid because I thought that was normal but now I cannot stand it. I’ve worked in offices where people used to have ashtrays on their desks. That is just unthinkable now.

@@jerometaperman7102 totally agree fortunately I was a truck driver for most of my working life so didn't have to put up with much passive smoking and nobody else at home smoked and strangely enough very few of my mates did either

@@CB1000FP1 - We have gone through a societal sea change in the past 60-70 years. It used to be that everyone just lit up whenever. Then it became polite to ask "Mind if I smoke?" Now it's understood that you may not unless you are at home or in a designated smoking area. I like it better this way. I live in an apartment complex where smoking is prohibited everywhere on the property. No one other than your father smoked at home? That's good. My father left when I was young and my mother smoked only half the year. It was the weirdest thing. She would quit at the start of winter and take it up again in the spring. Must not have been truly addicted.

Re; the baby car seat at 2:25. It's amazing any of us survived. I wonder if that has anything to do with being self reliant, on time, & having a sense of responsibility? Unlike todays Gen whatevers. Given trophies & ribbons just for participating. I wonder at what exact point in time the adults responsible for giving the trophies & ribbons found it easier to hand them out to the criers and snivelers who didn't win instead of explaining to little Johnny & Susie that they couldn't just "have" a ribbon because they didn't put enough effort into actually winning. They were probably non-winners in their day and felt (wrongly) that Johnny & Susie should have ribbons & trophies for participating so they wouldn't feel like they did back in their day. Now they announce themselves by declaring their "pronouns" on resumes' & job apps. I'm glad when they do that because it makes it so much easier for me to round file those specific resumes' & apps. & weed out the trouble makers and problem children.
