    As FTers who boondock a lot, (we boondocked off grid for 8 months last year) carrying capacity is very important consideration. When we were shopping for our gas MH, carrying capacity (both weight and tank capacity) was foremost on our minds. We chose a MH with a tag axle for additional weight capacity and stability when fully loaded. Our motorhome only has one deep slide, which was intentional, as every slide adds 1,000-1,500lbs, reducing your carrying capacity by whatever weight they add.
    Here are some tricks we used to reduce our weight to offset 750lbs of onboard water and a very large, 950lb solar/battery system that are both essential for boondocking.
    1. We carry about 600lbs of our heavy tools, repair parts, chemicals, oil, coolant, etc. and 15 gallons of extra water in our toad to reduce this weight in our coach.
    2. We removed the heavy sofa bed in our slide, tool the swivel recliner that was behind the passenger's seat and bolted it in the slide so it can swivel and glide forward to the table act as a dining room chair. We kept a single dining room chair, eliminating the weight of 3 chairs. We put a lightweight recliner in the slide with an opposing flat screen TV that though bigger than the old tube type TVs that came with the coach is still lighter than they were, saving us over 100lbs in the process.
    3. We removed the heavy, glass bathtub door and replaced it with a shower rod and curtain, saving perhaps 80 lbs vs the original set-up.
    4. We removed all the window boxes that encased our blinds. Though they only averaged about 10lbs each, there were 7 of them, for a total savings of about 70 more lbs.
    5. We use the rule when we get something new like clothes or shoes, the old one it replaced has to go. We also reevaluate our basement and under bed storage every year in January. The rule is that if we didn't use it in the last year it goes. For example, we recently bought a new lightweight cordless vacuum, so donated our old Hoover. We might have only saved 5 lbs but if you do this kind of thing again and again it sure adds up.
    6. I still carry a spare tire but haven't used it in 5 years of FT travel. If necessary, one could always dump the spare if you have a good roadside assistance plan like we have, saving about 80 lbs. or figure out a way to carry it in your toad (which may be doable if you tow a pick-up, as many do.)
    7. Sometimes compromises must be made. We sold our 2 e-bikes and bike rack (that we hardly used) saving about 200 lbs to add additional solar power so we could enjoy 24/7 off grid air conditioning.
    In fact, I wouldn't consider adding a suspension system that adds over 500lbs to our coach, forcing us to give up 500lbs of carrying capacity due to its weight. I'd rather just endure a rough ride or install air bags or sumo springs, shocks, sway and track bars as a handling compromise without reducing carrying capacity that much. That option is a heck of a lot cheaper too.

    I'm having the 4 corner system installed on my 2020 HR Vacationer 35K next week at the LiquidSpring HQ in Lafayette, IN. location. Also have some great interviews coming up, as well in depth videos of the plant tour and how the system works. Yep, it's very important to know your weight.

      You will absolutely love it! I have a 2 year review video of our system coming in the next month and have lots of good insight for those looking to have the system installed.

    Happened upon this. Three things come to mind: 1) Liquid Spring installation is far more involved than I thought. Little wonder it’s expensive. But all things considered it appears to be a bargain. Ain’t like putting on a stabilizer and shocks; 2) I recently saw a statistic that 57% of RVs are overweight - so you weren’t alone; and 3) I have looked high and low and haven’t seen a single bad review of Liquid Spring.
    Informative video. Thanks.

    • @adventurtunityfamily
      @adventurtunityfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a very detailed and thorough installation...but even more amazing is that it only requires one weld and a couple new holes drilled. The rest uses current factory mounting holes.
      Anecdotally from talking to a lot of RVers over the last few years, I'd wager that the percentage is actually higher than that.
      Doesn't surprise me, it would be hard to say anything bad about it once you experience the product quality and the amazing ride improvement! I will be doing an update on how the system is performing for us after over a year of use...so stay tuned!

    I’m glad you found out about overloading your coach before having a serious issue. We are long time motorhome owners, eight coaches over decades. It’s easy to make mistakes.
    Safe travels

    We are heading out to Indiana for a full install in July, and this is something I have thought about also (being too heavy). While we don't live in it, we'll be traveling for 40 days on the install trip so we'll have a fair amount of inventory. I'll need to get weighed here at some point before leaving.

    • @adventurtunityfamily

    We got our confirmation call this afternoon. Having the 4 corner installed March 14th!! So is you rig on a 22k pound chassis? We are a 26k pound chassis in our Newmar Canyon Star. Did you have to be at or under you 22k? So, only 3 days for the install?? I was told to expect 5 days.

    • @adventurtunityfamily
      @adventurtunityfamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will LOVE it! Its a gamechanger for sure. We do have a 22k chassis. And living full time means we have stuff for year round use. We needed to be under as the LS will add some weight over the stock suspension. But it forced us to do what we needed to do anyway and now we are rolling comfortably and at our proper weight!
      As for install, it did take 3 days, but they had a cancellation the same week we were in so we were the only rig in that week. We were told 5 days initially as well. But the techs team is awesome and they work really well together.

    Ford steering wheel ... SMH can't believe they still have that escort looking wheel .. I almost purchased a pickup but DANG that thing reminded me of my mom car...
    Love the video by the way.
    Awesome to see the scales, I know that sort of sucks but good on them actually. I suspect Ford didn't help with the weak setup.. well more on the coach manufacture for using a light chassis. and maybe you took a few too many things :)

    • @adventurtunityfamily
      @adventurtunityfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha yeah..."Escort wheel" 😂😂
      The weight thing ended up working out all around. We realized we had too much stuff, and Liquid Spring was able to do a proper install. And the results are amazing!

    • @adventurtunityfamily

    As far I can see, the only downside to this suspension system. Price and once you have it, that will make you married for life to the upgraded RV.
    What your total damage in cost?. Maybe you got free for promo. I'd like to know. Cheers.

    I'm curious what 1100 lbs. you got rid of.

    • @adventurtunityfamily
      @adventurtunityfamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Living full time in our coach means we have stuff for year-round use. And its crazy how quickly things add up. While some of the weight ended up being shifted around to better distribute it over the axles, most of the weight removed was comprised of excess seasonal clothing, tools, hard cover books, kitchen items, paperwork, old camera gear and other things. We couldn't believe it ourselves, but it was an exercise we had to go through and we feel much better now being back within our limits.

    • @fredrutman7508
      @fredrutman7508 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adventurtunityfamily Hard cover books are a killer. As someone who moved 6 times and lugged every textbook I ever had (I was a college prof you book companies give you new ones each year to entice you to buy their version), I finally said "What do I need 1000 copies of texts I'll never use again" and out they went. Same with most clunky fitness equipment. You can do almost anything with bands, bodyweight and a TRX.

    A gallon of water weighs 8.33 lbs so if you were carrying water I’d dump most of it. Just a thought, i bet you already thought of. Lol

    • @adventurtunityfamily
      @adventurtunityfamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, we emptied the water tank and the waste tanks. We also try to travel with empty tanks and fill up when we arrive, if need be. Great tip!

  • @Frostytravels
    @Frostytravels ปีที่แล้ว

    dump your tanks, first. water is 8.2 lbs a gallon so go from there

    • @adventurtunityfamily
      @adventurtunityfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great point. Our waste tanks were empty as was our fresh water tank so we didn't have any added water weight on board.

  • @andyianniello
    @andyianniello ปีที่แล้ว

    So I'm curious, the 1100lbs over, was that "over" for them to do the install then you added that stuff back? Or were you literally way over the cargo carrying limit (what you should have been)?

    • @adventurtunityfamily
      @adventurtunityfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      We were over what we should have been. Then we had to calculate a little extra to remove because the Liquid Spring adds a bit of weight over the stock suspension components. So we shipped a BUNCH of stuff back to our storage unit and now actively try to keep from bringing unnecessary items on board.
