    I have been toying with full time RVing for some time. I have done all the research, found my RV and have been hesitant to just take the plung. Two things, I found your channel while recovering from serious surgery. I am a widower with a daughter that is starting her senior year in HS. You have been the impetus to go forward. Will have to start as a weekender for a bit, but ready to leap. My surgery was a blessing from God. If I had not had the severe back pain, there would have been no scan that found early renal cancer that was contained. As it is not, all is well. Thank you....of all the videos out there, you guys have been the biggest influence. You are honest, informative, and realistic. Thanks for all you do.

    My husband travels for work and we live in a camper, and we’re starting to talk about having a baby before we’re able to get off the road. We are at the mercy of where his jobs take us, and I’m so worried about traveling while pregnant (doctors appts, mainly toward the end), handling pediatricians while traveling (do we just switch all the time?), and longer drives with a tiny baby. Unfortunately we don’t have a bunk house/mid bunk so our baby would consume our living room so we’ll have to get creative to baby proof! Any advice about the drives?

    Great 2 year overview, I just returned from LiquidSpring HQ, I spent 5 days having the 4 corner suspension installed on my 2020 HR Vacationer 35K, videoing the entire process and interviewing. On my 380 mile drive return back to Michigan, the fatigue factor no longer exists, also I noticed I need to make sure I use cruise control, if not I could easily exceed the posted speed limits, before LS, that was not the case. It's absolutely a game changer. Now besides the normal fastener inspection, they have added a desiccant filter that needs to be inspected. For the Ford F-53 22K chassis, it adds 550 lbs, which count as cargo, so that must be taken to consideration. Wayne Wells, Eric Garcia, technicians and the engineering group were great to work with. Safe Travels guys.

    • @SuperSushidog
      @SuperSushidog 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Adding 550 lbs. is a deal breaker for me. What I wouldn't give for another 550lbs of carrying capacity! We're FTers who boondock most of the time. Our F-53 chassis MH even has a tag axle to increase its carrying capacity. Still, we started out with only 3,700 lbs. of CCC available. When you subtract the full tanks that we travel with (800 lbs. of water, 360lbs f gasoline and 120 lbs. of propane) and a 1,100 lb. solar/battery system (5,020 watts of solar and 23.5Kwh of LiFePo-4 batteries, inverters, charge controllers, etc.), we only have 1,320 lbs. left for everything else. This includes our food, kitchenware, appliances, clothing, linens, camping and BBQ equipment, TV, computer and all our worldly possessions. That's not much. We transferred all our heavy tools, chemicals, extra water, etc. to our toad and pared our weight down as best we could (ditching our heavy glass bathtub door, sofa bed, window treatments, etc.) and still barely scrape by under our weight limit. Giving up another 550 lbs. would be more than we could afford. Now, if it added 550 lbs of CCC, we'd be all over that mod, for sure!

  • @SuperSushidog
    @SuperSushidog 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I just found your channel and subscribed. Sweet battery bank - great job! You can't go wrong with Victron. Neat bug zapper too. We're old folk living on a fairly tight budget, so we had to design and build our system ourselves, as our budget permitted. Five years ago, we retired, sold everything and went FT. It was the best decision we ever made. We discovered we love boondocking and quickly learned the advantages of solar. We decided to build our solar/battery system in 2 phases, a 12v system for our basic 12v DC needs and a 48v system for our 110v A/C needs. We started by building a 620-watt liftable solar array on the side of our motorhome. We lift it to the optimal angle to boost its output vs flat mounted panels, especially in the winter. It makes a nice bedroom window awning too, practically lifting itself with a couple gas struts, and it's easy to clean with a windshield squeegee, standing safely on the ground. We finished the 12v part of our build last January, with the addition of a 560ah LiFePo-4 battery that we built with 8, 280ah "A" grade prismatic cells (about the same as 2 Game Changers). We use a Heltec 330amp BMS, and a 5a active balancer to keep the cells synched up. It cost us less than $1,500 to build this 560ah 12v, 7.1Kwh battery, including the high amp BMS and balancer. We chose these cells rather than a pre-built battery because they fit perfectly under the steps of our MH where our old pair of GC-2 golf cart batteries used to reside. We insulated the battery compartment, cut a 1" hole in our step risers and installed a tiny computer CPU fan to keep this space at close to room temperature, so we don't have to worry about the BMS shutting down charging if they get too cold - or their life reduced from getting too hot. We use an 80A Progressive Dynamics LFP converter/charger, a 1,000w Renogy inverter, an Epever 50a MPPT charge controller and a Lnex battery monitor. This entire 12v system cost us under $3,500 to build and takes care of all of our basic off-grid needs except for air conditioning and microwave use. By mounting our solar array on the side of our coach, we left the roof free to rack 8, 550W Sungold Power solar panels (4,400 watts) down the length of our 35ft Class A, 15" off our roof, above our AC, fan shrouds, etc. They will cover the entire roof, providing some nice shade with plenty of cooling air underneath, further increasing solar output and reducing the heat load on the air conditioners too. We bought them for only 51 cents/watt shipped to our door. We're in the middle of this build now. We bought our aluminum racking material in Yuma, where we're wintering over this year, for around $400. Our solar panels, wiring, breakers, etc. arrived a couple week ago, but we're taking our time to get everything in and installed over the winter. At 67 yrs old, we're moving much slower these days. Our Sungold Power all-in-one 48V, 5,000W Inverter/100A charge controller/battery charger just arrived last week. Our 48v battery bank will use 16, 320ah grade A prismatic cells which only cost us $1,726 from EEL batteries. The 200amp Heltec 16s BMS we're using just arrived from China yesterday. Together with our 560ah 12v bank, we will have a total of 23.5 Kwh of batteries onboard (equal to almost 7 Game Changers) - kept charged by over 5,000 watts of solar. We removed our rear rooftop AC and will be replacing it with an EG4 28.5 seer-2, 12k btu mini-split heat pump on the upper rear of our motorhome. This second phase will provide 24/7 off-grid air conditioning, supplemental heat from the heat pump and allow occasional usage of our soft start equipped Furrion AC in the front of our MH during peak afternoon hours, as well as give us whole house 120v ac power. We'll soon have total off-grid electrical independence for a total budget of around $11,500, reserving our 5,500w generator for back-up use only. Take care, we hope to see you down the road!

  • @SuperSushidog
    @SuperSushidog 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As FTers who boondock a lot, (we boondocked off grid for 8 months last year) carrying capacity is very important consideration. When we were shopping for our gas MH, carrying capacity (both weight and tank capacity) was foremost on our minds. We chose a MH with a tag axle for additional weight capacity and stability when fully loaded. Our motorhome only has one deep slide, which was intentional, as every slide adds 1,000-1,500lbs, reducing your carrying capacity by whatever weight they add. Here are some tricks we used to reduce our weight to offset 750lbs of onboard water and a very large, 950lb solar/battery system that are both essential for boondocking. 1. We carry about 600lbs of our heavy tools, repair parts, chemicals, oil, coolant, etc. and 15 gallons of extra water in our toad to reduce this weight in our coach. 2. We removed the heavy sofa bed in our slide, tool the swivel recliner that was behind the passenger's seat and bolted it in the slide so it can swivel and glide forward to the table act as a dining room chair. We kept a single dining room chair, eliminating the weight of 3 chairs. We put a lightweight recliner in the slide with an opposing flat screen TV that though bigger than the old tube type TVs that came with the coach is still lighter than they were, saving us over 100lbs in the process. 3. We removed the heavy, glass bathtub door and replaced it with a shower rod and curtain, saving perhaps 80 lbs vs the original set-up. 4. We removed all the window boxes that encased our blinds. Though they only averaged about 10lbs each, there were 7 of them, for a total savings of about 70 more lbs. 5. We use the rule when we get something new like clothes or shoes, the old one it replaced has to go. We also reevaluate our basement and under bed storage every year in January. The rule is that if we didn't use it in the last year it goes. For example, we recently bought a new lightweight cordless vacuum, so donated our old Hoover. We might have only saved 5 lbs but if you do this kind of thing again and again it sure adds up. 6. I still carry a spare tire but haven't used it in 5 years of FT travel. If necessary, one could always dump the spare if you have a good roadside assistance plan like we have, saving about 80 lbs. or figure out a way to carry it in your toad (which may be doable if you tow a pick-up, as many do.) 7. Sometimes compromises must be made. We sold our 2 e-bikes and bike rack (that we hardly used) saving about 200 lbs to add additional solar power so we could enjoy 24/7 off grid air conditioning. In fact, I wouldn't consider adding a suspension system that adds over 500lbs to our coach, forcing us to give up 500lbs of carrying capacity due to its weight. I'd rather just endure a rough ride or install air bags or sumo springs, shocks, sway and track bars as a handling compromise without reducing carrying capacity that much. That option is a heck of a lot cheaper too.
