What happens when you miss the fuel boat?! 😩 | BOAT LIFE

- This weeks adventure is a long one. After waiting on the fuel boat to stock up on coal supplies for my multifuel/ log burner. I then single hand my narrowboat up lots of canal locks from Stone to Barlaston. My friend Nikki's engine stalls in a lock as she runs out of diesel. I go and visit the amazing World of Wedgwood famous for it's pottery and have a lovely Rum Coffee in the 6 towns distillery. While cruising I chat about the history and reason why James Brindley and Josiah Wedgwood built the Trent and Mersey Canal. I also get to meet another solo female boater.
------------
Thank you so much for watching. If you are new here, I'm Heidi and I live aboard my Narrowboat The Rum Wench and travel the UK's Canals in search of Adventure. After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion - my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Pirate Boat.

I've got to tell you that your dad is absolutely correct about not letting your fuel get down to the very bottom of the tank. For the very reasons he has explained. I have spent 27 years with Castrol and I can tell you that he is correct. I might also add that you have cut my attention on TH-cam as being a most fascinating intriguing and mesmerizing middle age lady. I am 80 years old and my wife passed 5 years ago. However, I have introduced you to my youngest daughter who is now 47 who has labeled you an absolute spaz which is an great compliment coming from her because she too is an absolute spaz. Your talented most artistically and musically. I can attest to that because I too. I'm a keyboard player and I have a nice les. Paul that i play every once in a while. You are, as I said, most intriguing with a super smile and a British accent that goes beyond beautiful. Thanks for your great blogs on TH-cam. You have a follower

😂😂 thank you 😃🏴☠️😃

Helloooooooooo Heidi and Bonnie, another awesome video.
This week as been really cold, -4 yesterday I do not go out being on crutches am to scared I might slip over, going to be a bit warmer next week no frost.
We have a plume of feathers pub in Weedon Bec.
The art on board of Bonnie 😮😮😮, Wow fantastic work.
Take care Heidi, Kisses 😘😘😘 for Bonnie X X X
Aww thank you Susan and I hope you are out and about very soon 😃❤️🏴☠️
Thanks. Keep you going on coal and a beer in pub!
Thank you very much Jim ❤️😃🏴☠️
Yes I had so much, lost the lot….I’m very grateful for all I’ve been blessed with in my lifetime. I’m happy in my camper van with nothing. Simple, no worries. I miss my husband though, so much. Thanks for the ride and tour Heidi. I’m going to sleep now.💤
The comment about "not letting your tank get too low because..." is an old wives tale, truth is your pickup in the tank is at the bottom, so it would draw in whatever is at the bottom anyway, best keep the tank no lower than half full as A:- you don't know when you can top up again, and B:- by keeping a good level you have the fuel sloshing around thus mixing up all the sludge at the bottom and drawing it through the system, where it gets removed by the fuel filter, thus keeping the sludge to a minimum. Great channel, I'll watch more from now on, keep up the good work.
Cheers!
Not on boats I’m afraid … the pick up is about an inch and half from the bottom but yes you are correct about the fuel filter and I change mine twice a year …. We are prone to diesel bug on boats and that’s caused when we let it for low and being in the cold water condensation forms with the steel and causes water in the fuel tank …. But thanks so much for your comment and watching 😃😃😃🏴☠️
Wonderful video -- great variety -- a view of local town and history, boat travails, meeting other boaters, different boat traders, Bonnie's progress. Well-done, Heidi -- you've got me looking every week.
Aw thank you 😃🏴☠️
Blown away by Michelle's talent. My dad, who was a cartographer, could do oil paintings, but his forte was what is referred to as scratchboard. I remember seeing him using a cartographer's loupe to do the fine details on whatever he was working on, so I can see and appreciate the amount of craft that Michelle is doing. He managed to sell some of his original works which were small (8"x10") of endangered species, such as the Snow Leopard, to companies who bought art as a tax write-off back in the early eighties for £800 a pop.
Oh wow Brilliant and thanks for sharing 😃❤️🏴☠️
Scaperboard is a lost art.
Hello. Um. I wonder could u settle A bet 4 me. U said that stainless steel is not magnetic. ? All of my stainless steel kitchen knives are stored on my kitchen wall via a magnetic strip . Have u ever put a magnet near stainless steel?
There are many grades of "stainless steel" some are magnetic some are not. Many grades are not even stainless.@@eddyvoidsoul6963
@@eddyvoidsoul6963different grades of stainless steel as mentioned previously - not all stainless steel is magnetic and a google search should help settle your bet
Lovely videos
Thanks 🙏

That was a really good one this week interesting stuff about the Wedgwood factory history, I just love learning about canal history. All the best to you Heidi and first mate Bonnie ❤Stephen
Thanks Stephen 😄🏴☠️❤️
hello heidi and bonnie hope you both are well it nice to see someone happy for a change your channel is so interesting you learn another thank you love patsy xx l love watching bonnie
She is wonderful
I went to the Wedgwood Factory when I was about 10 years old. I was lucky to have some pocket money to buy a souvenir. I bought a black urn. To me it was for flowers for my mom. I had to witness the black urn on a shelf in an alcove for years. It now reminds me of funeral ware. Fortunately I left it behind but still remember the piece. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Another great video Heidi the portrait will be stunning as Michelle has a lot of talent , looking forward to many more , up your rum 😂😅
Thank you …. Yes I can’t wait to see it progressing, she is very talented 😃🏴☠️❤️
DIG THE TRAVELS AND LONG EPISODES. ALWAYS A FUN JOURNEY AND THE MANNING YUNES... HAAAARRRGGG!!1 BLIMEY WELL TIME... BE BLESSED AND TALLY HO!🎄🎄🎄😋😃😃
Some years ago we moored near the Star at Stone and went in the pub which was packed with boaters celebrating a 50 year birthday. The birthday turned out to be one of the boaters parrot. That was in the day when all the the boaters used to congregate in the pub at night.Happy times.
😄🏴☠️❤️
I love the way you support other narrowboat traders. And I simply live to see Bonnie each week. So proud that she can now stay on top while you go through locks!
Awww thank you 😄🏴☠️
Heidi keep your diesel tank full and make sure your filters are clean also you can get a filter with a water catcher
There a bastard to prime and get rid of the air lock.
Have a good week be safe you to bonny
Love the history. The buildings. And the intricacies involved in your daily life are amazing. Thank you for the video. Very informative and very enjoyable.
Thank you 😃🏴☠️
Enjoyed Wedgwood factory.
My late mom collected wedgewood her whole life ! (Unfortunately not very long She passed at 48 with the big C !😢)
My dad used to buy her a different piece for each of their anniversaries and birthdays for the 22 years they were married.
My sister Jacqui inherited the collection and added to the collection but unfortunately also passed at the young age of 57 also the dreaded big C.
My youngest sister Alison is now the custodian of the collection.
Cheers
Mike from Pietermaritzburg South Africa
PS Painting of Bonny is brilliant !
On wow Michael thanks so much for sharing ❤️
Heidi must have been a great and fun teacher. A great loss for children.
Aww thank you 😄🏴☠️
Through winding waterways and moonlit night,
The Rum Wench glided with silvery light.
Heidi's laughter echoed, a hearty sound,
As they sought treasures in each canal they found.
In the heart of the night, under the stars you see,
Heidi and Bonny, wild and free.
They sought not gold or jewels so rare,
But the joy of the journey, the wind in their hair.
Wonderful 😄❤️🏴☠️
When Neil Morrisey was a kid, he used to live opposite my granddad in Stafford. Staffordshire a beautiful part of the world, with nice people.
Aww thanks for sharing 😃🏴☠️
Another lovely video. Loved the history and seeing you and Bonny enjoying life❤❤❤
Thank you ☺️ ❤️🏴☠️
My mum was a Wedgwood before getting married. I don’t have any expensive plates though! Was lovely having a longer story from you. Cheers, woohoo!
Heidi's posting day is the best day of any week.
I hope you and Bonnie are well.
Seasons greetings to you all.
Keep safe warm dry and virus free everyone.
Safe journey travels.
Awww thank you - you too David 😄🏴☠️❤️

Absolutely fab video. Awesome to see Bonnie making such great progress, she’s adorable. Michelle is such an amazingly talented artist. Looking forward to seeing the portrait develop. Your weekly videos are brilliant, funny, life affirming, and joyous.
Thanks so much! 😊
Another entertaining video. Supporting local trades is so important. Wishing you Fair winds and following seas
Thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
Nice one Heidi 👍 good Christmas market on at Wedgwood 👌 nice to see a positive film about traveling the canal through Stoke many people don't like the old industrial parts but great film 👍 Glyn
Thanks so much! 😊
The best yet every moment bostin arrrrg so much to comment on too stoned to spell Thanx Heidi n Bonny x 🤠🙏👍
😂🏴☠️
It's so great that you support each other like this. Sharing Michelle's progress on Bonnie is fun to watch and I can't wait to see the updates.
Yes me too, she is really talented 😃🏴☠️❤️
My son made a chimney cowl, with a metal plate and 3 bits of metal with screw holes in it. It works well cheap and cheerful XXX
Just stumbled across you and was immediately transported back to my childhood home by your glorious accent. I grew up in Northwich but haven't been back for some fifty years. What a fabulous channel!
Aww thanks so much for watching 😄🏴☠️❤️
I lived my youth in The Potteries is this video is right up my alley and yeah i have tons of Edgewood china
Wow amazing 😄🏴☠️❤️
Your never to old to go into a pub for a drink Heidi
Chimney Cap, maybe a small chain so that when it gets knocked off. It doesn't go far. Can't believe Nikki has a jacket on. Maybe it's -4 like here today and one needs a jacket. Enjoy the day!
😂😂😂
🏴☠️😍Thank you very much for sharing take care great video😍🏴☠️
Thanks for watching! 😃🏴☠️
Ahoy Captain, I'm back from the past, another great vlog Heidi, the fuel boat, use it or lose it, great to see you supporting local business, you said that you can't afford Wedgwood, ASDA smart price is made by Wedgwood, so you can dine on Wedgwood.
That Lister sounds amazing, I absolutely adore it ❤.
The community you have on the canals is wonderful, that couple on the hire boat were so pleasant.
Bonny is coming on fantastic, one day she will grow into those ears 😂.
Finally I would like to say that your Lady Garden, is a very nice piece, ( don't be rude) ❤❤
😂😂 thank you ❤️🏴☠️
LOL! You raise "tongue-in-cheek" to a high art. Love your channel. Cheers.
Thank you kindly 😃😂😂😂😂
Bonnie sure does seem to enjoy riding along on the roof. I guess it's like sticking your head out the widow of a car but at a more gentle pace! You two are a good measure of entertainment. Thank you!
Thank you 😄🏴☠️
great vlog, Bonnies is flying now she must think she is captain and you are staff. I used to paint the designs on the expensive Wedgewood when I lived in Worcester UK. good to see all the women looking out for each other .
Oh wow thanks for sharing 😄🏴☠️❤️
✌️❤️🐶 🏴☠️ Thank you for sharing
Another great video. Thanks for taking us along with you. Good to see Nikki and the other two female solo boaters.
Loved the Wedgewood estate and history, the pub/brewery was excellent also.
Love to you and Bonnie. ❤
Thank you 😄🏴☠️
Love your video! Your Dad was correct. The statue was of a woman who was murdered. Nice that Nikki joined you and nice to meet Sandi.
Oh that will be Christina Collins but she was murdered in Rugeley which is a good few miles / days cruising away so I wonder why the statue is there ?!
@@TheNarrowboatPirate I saw it on another channel.
How nice of you to support your fellow boaters businesses.
We all look after each other, it’s a wonderful community 😃
Heidi A short piece of light chain screwed to the chimney and to the cap will make it hard to loose the cap. Just a thought from me to you but dont tell anyone else i said it just to my favorite pirate. Have a great day stay safe and watch out for lock JISS. Ed 40 S of Vegas
Good tip, thank you 😃🏴☠️
Hi Heidi
Great episode, I hail from around this area but I’ve lived in Western Australia for the last 53 years
My wife and I met you at the Norbury junction festival earlier this year Tony and Lauri
Aww wonderful 😃❤️🏴☠️
funniest pirate ever! Thanks for the great videos!
Thank you 😄🏴☠️
There's no greater feeling than chugging North 🙉
You are soooo right 😂😂
Chimney knob. Ya ca'nt resist it can ya, buggerlugs ? Ya know full well it's a cowl. Love it. Never boring. Loved the bit about everything being local, as told by the gadger in the pottery. I'm more "local" than him, and i be from Yorkshire !!
😂😂
Hi Heidi you need to get a top hat for your chimney then rivet it on it save the rain from coming in.
Great to see Bonny staying aboard when your doing the gates
Love the portraitn-I got one of my 2 mutts-made me tear up it was so lovely
Something forever
Awww I can’t wait to see Michelle’s progress on little Bonny 😄🏴☠️
You could also get a portrait done of Bonny from Julie from "Weir on the move". She specializes in animal portraits. Plus, if you don't know them, you could get acquainted with another fellow boater couple. Cheers. !!!
Aww really ? I just wanted to support a local artist who I’ve known a long time as I felt her style was just perfect for my little Bonny 😃🏴☠️❤️
Smash, Bang, Wallop, what a video. Great vlog Heidi x
Thank you 😃🏴☠️
Fancy Nik running out of diesel, not like her, living on the edge eh! 🤣🤪 so pleased she had you there, loved the vlog matey xx ❤
Cheers 😄🏴☠️❤️
To be honest I prefer my good ole Corelle dishes to Wedgwood. :-D I could never get excited over expensive dishes. It was fun to see the Wedgewood displays, though. I love hand made items best. Loved the video, thank you. Bonny is just too sweet and her portrait is gorgeous.
Thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
You’re my kind of person, I’m certain we could share a pint now and then!
Cheers 🥃🏴☠️
The Wedgewood history is so interesting! I work at the Rose Creek Mine in Franklin North Carolina, and it’s been in operation nearly 72 years. We have two kinds of clay here, and they use to sell it to Wedgewood, with which they made their fine China. Our Mine also has Star Garnets, and it’s so much fun watching the Kids and Rockhounds find treasures in our dirt. We also find two thousand year old shards of Cherokee Pottery!
Aww thanks for sharing 😃❤️🏴☠️
See ya later guy's, happy travels and be safe, we will miss you but have a nice time.
I just thought that you might want one for each side of the ship. So they could look at each other. LOLOL 🥰
Hi Heidi if you see any one 🧲 fishing ask them if they have pulled a chimney cowl out you wouldn't be the first to lose one.loveyour Chanel.
Thanks, I have a fab magnet myself but the lock was filling and then there were 2 boats behind me so I would have been thrown around a few locks and pounds by now and I didn’t have time to stop 😃❤️🏴☠️
Love the tier atop the chimney... clever
Lost chimney cap? Ya might get a large magnet on a rope like they use for magnet fishing you also might find a lot more than you are expecting with it.
I have a great magnet which I’ve shown many times but unfortunately with 2 boats behind me heading up the locks, I didn’t have time to moor and try to locate it plus the lock would have been emptied and filled so many times it could be anywhere
Hey Heidi, I am the newbie boater sailing away into the sunset!
I have to tell everyone what a lovely person you are in real(?) life! It was an absolute pleasure meeting you, and of course Bonnie!
It was also a pleasure meeting Nikki, also a lovely lady, what a day for me!
I also love your blogs and your music, so please continue with both.
PS, did you per chance find a mooring chain lying around?? It belonged to the couple I was following at the time, in a non stalking sort of way you understand.
Ahoy, no I didn’t see a chain …. I’ll message Nikki later to see if she did later 😃🏴☠️ it was lovely to meet you and I hope you are keeping warm 😃
Love watching your videos ,Barlaston is just down the road from me. I live in Stoke and my bit of advice while cruising through stoke is ...don't stop , keep going cause if your boat had wheels, you wouldn't have them by time you got tuther side.😊 hahaha. Keep those fires burning and those videos coming!!!
😂😂😂
We've seen the house w/it's own lock in the yard, before on an earlier video you have shared. Lovely garden-like property.
I’ve not past it for years it may have been another vlogger as this is all new waters for me since starting to vlog
When you get a cap for the chimney, get an extra one for "in case" ...
Congratulations to Bonny for being as good as gold. She has learned so much. Really appreciate the look at the factories. Very informative. Be well and stay safe.
Thank you 😃🏴☠️
@@TheNarrowboatPirate You're welcome.
Hi Heidi, I was privileged to visit the Wedgewood factory when I was in the UK 20 or more years ago. It was fascinating and the factory tour was great, to say nothing of the grounds themselves. Nice job my lady and keep it up!
Thank you 😃🏴☠️❤️
Very Very Talented she is. I'm so glad you have so many single female friends 😉 I always enjoy your vlogs an so very glad you support your local Crafter's ! till next be safe!🦜🥃🏴☠
Thanks Steve, she really is, I can’t wait to see Bonny progress ❤️🏴☠️
Hi Hiedi, I think that when you get a replacement hat for your chimney an easy fix would be a short length of chain say off a sink plug as it is stainless a a couple of self cutting pan head screws, just fix end of the chain to the hat and the other to the chimney so take still take off to clean but if you knock it off no worries, let us know when you are about to pass Barbridge where I live I' ll do it for you only take minits, keep up the great work, John from Barbridge
Aww thanks John 😃❤️🏴☠️
You girls are on fire. Well done.
Thank you 😄🏴☠️
Hello Heidi mick from Hull another lovely episode hope you are well and I will look forward to your next episode xx 😊😊😊
Very much enjoy your travels in The Cut. It's early Spring here at 7800' in the Colorado Rockies and I empathize when you are cold and trying to work the locks. Thanks!
Thank you xx
Always nice seeing my hometown of Stone. Spent many a day having a pint at the Star watching the boats.
Awww wonderful 😃🏴☠️
Du bist eine super sympathische Frau. Grüße aus 🇦🇹 from the Lake of Constanze.
Thank you very much 😃❤️🏴☠️
I'm a Royal Crown Derby person myself. Wedgwood is a bit downmarket in comparison. I have a tea-set on which a long-dead auntie painted and signed the gilt work.
I’ve worked on the Rail around Stone, I know you probably do, but there can be sharps by bridges and concealed infrastructure. Heidi, loved the intro, a brief history of the creation of the T&M. Didn’t Bonny do well … take care.
Aww thanks so much again Nigel 😃❤️🏴☠️
Heidi, as another person said, about your chimney cap, is to get a chain put on between your chimney cap and chimney, so you won't loose the cap again,. Love your videos, keep the brilliant work going,
Supporting small businesses is supporting local community. Much better than supporting corporates. Love seeing Bonny out on the roof. Getting more like boat crew every week. =-) Take care as always =-)
She is really coming on now … it’s been almost 5 months ❤️
Heidi & Bonnie your both the best x
Awww thank you 😄🏴☠️❤️
Ahoy! Thank you! Very interesting vlog👍🏻. So much fun following you from Oceanside California USA.
Awesome! Thank you!
Would imagine back in the horse pulling days there was more help around, different . almost like mud larking on the Thames.
No Wedgewood but I did work as a Colour Chemist for Drakenfeld and Harshaw back in the day, then Engelhard who makes the gold colors like on the ones you filmed. Oh, I loved you patting engine just after you shut it down. What a wonderful life you live.
Thank you ❤️
I loved the longer vlog today, it was so interesting looking through the wedgewood show room they have such beautiful pottery, and Bonny was soo good and so cute wanting to get back to the warmth of the boat.
Haha I know she just wanted to get inside for her dinner 😂😂
Absolutely love your channel Heidi, keep it going girl. Let's have a rum together xx
❤Thank you
Thank you 😃🏴☠️
I have a wedge of wood but don't have any Wedgewood.😊
😂😂
great video Heide ,nice to see bonnie , Staffordshire is full of history pottery ,railway's, coal mining ,canal's etc +the countryside Cannock chase.xx
What a lovely enjoyable video
You are so kind
I'm older than yiu, by far. Not as talented but I'm still inspired. I'm going to try to fund my own adventure with IP i have stockpiled for decades.
Aww fabulous - life is short, have a fabulous time 😄🏴☠️
Really enjoyed this weeks vlog. Especially seeing Stone as I lived there before moving to the USA 20 years ago. Always used to take my three kids to watch the boats go through the lock. Back in the day the building across from the Star was a tea shop, so it was great to get ice creams and sometimes help operate the gates. My kids loved it. We visited Stone and the locks last year. A great trip down memory lane. Keep warm!
Oh wow, thanks for sharing 😃🏴☠️
Another great video Heidi! No wedgewood here - mines all from the chazza!
And Michelle artwork is just spectacular- I’m going to start saving for a pet portrait of my scruffy little terrier one day. Happy travels x
Aww thank you and yes she is really talented …. I love a good ‘chazza’ 😂😂
A lovely video so good to see stone and the potteries again we went that way last year doing the four counties ring stay warm and safe ❤❤love Phil
Thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
Hello 👋 from John E.May from USA 🇺🇸 ❤❤❤❤
History! Awesome. Have a good week! Pretty piece at 836, serene , almost drifted off….😮
Fantastic vlog! Another Woman-power one,
