I worked on the canary wharf tower during construction around the beginning of 1991. Not my favourite job. Didn’t like the trip up the outside in the hoist and I was only going as far as the 21st floor…
loved this one guys and seeing you go through all the joys of london boating 😅 definitely don’t think we miss it! You should’ve gone on the wall at limehouse basin, it’s free for 24 hours! our fav spot. yaaay look forward to seeing you on the grand union! 🎉❤️
Aw we didn’t realise that! We thought it was all private/for boats going out in the morning on the Thames. Were looking forward to a slower pace for the foreseeable 😍
2:40 I actually swam in that lock when I was a kid, probably about 1986, now I think we must have lost our minds! Victoria Park was a lot different back then, the bit where the cafes are near there was an old boat storage house, with boats that used to be a available for hire probably in the seventies. The two dog statues were perfectly intact in those days, can’t believe what happened to them in later years 😢. It was completely un-hipster in those days.
As they are drinking the milk they are probably happy to have the large expense of having their cows regularly tested for the diseases transmitted to humans via cows milk. So they are the ones at risk if this isn't done rather than their customers. Vets are expensive and so are laboratories.
I lived on the Grand union canal at Hunton Bridge, not far from Watford. I helped run the Kings Head pub there. Later I moved to Teddington on the Thames and often cycled into central London. The waterway are a great way to travel no cars or busses. . 👍👍
Happy New year! Enjoying your journey's, I just would like to note with the unpasteurised milk, do do boil it... I had a family member die from drinking unpasteurised milk so its no joke. Good health to the two of you. Ps, the music snipets are spot on
Then again - you're right about gut health. Personally I try to get it from yoghurt, good way to get those bacteria for the gut which sometimes are added after because I assume they are burnt off when boiling the milk.. making yoghurt is quite fun, simpler than you'd think!
Dunno about 12 things to cook in 2024 but I reckon lentils, of any kind are versatile and great. Stews, curries, nut roasts. Whatever really. Red lentils particularly because they cook quicker, so less energy required to cook them. Green lentils also great, and split yellow.
Oh my, it's all a bit different to the K&A on a lazy summer's afternoon, isn't it? All credit to you both for staying so calm when things goes wrong (or, alternatively, for editing those bits out so cleverly!)
We had those mugs. Hubby Captain, me Skipper. He rang me one day at work and said you have just been promoted. I said so you've broken my mug! Now I'm Captain 😄
I used to work for an economic historian (Robert Fogel, Nobel Prize 1993). One of the things I remember from that time was a discussion about the 1850’s swill milk scandal in New York City. Swill milk was produced by miasmic cows fed left over mash from whiskey distilleries. Many infants died from being fed this milk. One result was that that all milk had to be pasteurized. It wasn’t really necessary, however, as long as the milk wasn’t adulterated.
Good handling in those windy locks. As a sailor my favourite expression is: Every boat is a sail boat but the power boats don't know it ;-) I gather that most narrow (long) boats do not have bow thrusters(?) On Jan 7, in hindsight, the UK , and you two, have had atrocious weather the past few weeks.
if you are looking for a new adventure (if you have not already done it) try the River Wey, you can get all the way south past Guildford to Godalming. One for the better weather when the Thames is not in Flood - think you need to buy a separate license for the Wey.
Raw milk is a State by state regulations in the USA, as such in a couple states you can buy from small supermarkets but others the only way is to pay in to a co-op to "own or upkeep part of" the cow.
Narrowboats are so much more expensive than renting a normal flat, it sucks, you seriously have to love the activity itself to want to do it. It's a shame, because I would love more canals in London even as a landlubber.
Renting a flat is wayyyy more expensive and you don't even own it. Buying a boat is a better investment, you just need to have the mental resilience and know-how to be able to put up with the difficulties of living on the boat.
A few things struck me this week. There are so many waterways - not just in London, but everywhere. There are so many boats, all shapes and sizes. I also feel like I know you two, though we've never met. I hope I see you along some towpath somehwere, some day.
Yes so many waterways! Can’t wait to head north now. Yeah a lot of people say that, I guess we do share quite a bit of our lives so it’s bound to happen! I’m sure we will one day
Have you guys thought about using a semi-permanent type camera mount? Noticed the security camera mount and had that thought. It would prevent these expensive disasters. Possibly some sort of quick connect thing. My heart goes out when these things happen to you guys.
Another great Video. Poor Danni, I know the air in London alone can give anyone the Squits. If I struggled opening lock gates I'd have to invent some kind of lever plank that uses the wedges on the ground, one of you will pull your back out one day. Safe journey up to the Midlands.
New to the channel - love it! We just did our first one week trip for hire on the Avon&Kennett and are hooked. Your videos bring back sweet memories. Q: Hello Fresh (we use here in US at our home) and mail as well - how do you provide an address for delivery? It seems a marvelous plan - minimal waste and storage requirements.
Hope you both had a good Christmas and New Year. Your chicken schnitzel looked lovely. Very apt as we're in Austria 🇦🇹. Hope you're OK after all the flooding 😢😢
I haven’t looked into it, but are there guarantees that the cows that are supplying raw milk are inoculated against tuberculosis? The main reason that milk started to be pasteurised in the last century was due to people catching tuberculosis from cows milk. Tuberculosis was a major cause of death.
@@ItsOhJoe, the farmer himself may trust it. But bovine tuberculosis is becoming increasingly prevalent in this country (way more than the general public can imagine). The fact that a farm didn't have any positive animals last year doesn't mean they won't have any on the next test. Drinking raw milk would be a sad, stupid and completely avoidable way of getting TB on the 21st Century. Treatment is not too effective, by the way. That's why when a farmer also has infected cats or dogs (from giving them raw milk) they are told to put them to sleep.
In california you can buy raw goat or cow milk no problems. The standards for processing raw milk are much higher. Blessings to you and yours coming at you from Southern Oregon
Oh dear a touch of manflu but you soldiered on ! Great video. I was hoping you were headed up the river lea navigation I was brought up just by Pickett's Lock (Alfie's lock) in the late 50's early 60's while my dad was an engineer building Deephams sewage works there. I go back for a look around every few years when in the area it would have been good to see from the canal perspective. Your tour.of east london was fantastic and very much enjoyed the dinnertimes, cooking and toddy (might have been on the other vid) but great to have a double helping this week!
Yeah we’d love to visit the Lee but just as well we didn’t as we missed this bad floods over there luckily. We’d like to do it one summer to do it justice!
Any dairy farmer drinks raw milk and privately "gives" milk to others... Amish just got into trouble with Pennsylvania law / government for selling dairy milk and other dairy products to private people that had to be a member... But the law's are getting way out of hand..
Nice promotion! You are really selling HF! This is a really good insight into life on the river which in London on our canal network is very hard to do obviously. More so when it’s been minus 7. It’s also the pace and range of subjects covered on this channel that make it so interesting. The tech on the boat is also complicated and tricky to deal with- so that adds complexity. One thing i would say is you both need to protect your lower backs more. There’s loads of twisting, pulling and pushing, all of which over time can pull on muscle groups and result in a sudden over stretching of key tendons. Before you do these sorts of movements - try and warm up and stretch. Pilates would be ideal- look into on-line classes. You only need mats a ball and a band to do it. That will prevent you getting as many injuries- especially on the locks and gates as well as rope pulling. Good luck both of you- some great content and camera work/ sound here.

They seem to be tackling wood stoves which indirectly really affects boaters as I’d say 90%+ of boats rely on solid fuel stoves for heating. No mention of diesel engines as of yet but watch this space

Nowthen guys, work your way up North, much better take it from me. This will take some time indeed but Yorkshire/Lancashire on Leeds Liverpool is much more chill.
love your channel you guys doing so well thank you for the london canals........ oohh did I hear you sau your heading towards Uxbright?. I've been near there, was lovley had a flying lessons at an airfield named Denham there many years ago, which is where I met my hubby. see you next week, Happy New Year to you guys.
The alternative to a boat as challenging as it is at times is a 25 year hire purchase house which is a mortgage or rent. We go to work to pay massive living expenses so we should also put some work into reducing our living expenses on a boat. Just saying ❤😊to those who couldn't possible empty an elsan toilet 😅❤ I love boating and yes it does have its challenging times but its not paying £400000 for a £200000 house from a net wage. ❤ Nice people nice video ❤
@@cailinhall8609 it's certainly tasty but approx 8% of the UK herds have tb, most of which are in the south, iss too high of a risk imo. Especially when tb is one of the deadliest deseases.
Agreed. Forget raw milk . Organic pasteurised best I believe. TB is around and takes months and months even with antibiotics to get rid off . There are a couple of human strains that are untreatable with antibiotics
Touch wood we managed to dodge the floods whilst we were over in East London, happened about a week after we left. Fortunately on the canal here the levels been pretty normal. The winds been a bit more of an issue really but fingers crossed that’s died down.
I would avoid river Lea; alot of crime, you'll have items nicked off boat, and its not unheard of to have break-ins on boats, dumping on boats, muggings. Speaking from personal experience.
Yeah unfortunately we heard the same (and seen many posts weekly on the London boaters Facebook) - we’d like to explore it but probably in summer (and then northern stretch more so than the southern)
Just a thought on the unpasteurised milk the states in America that allow the sale of unpasteurised milk have the highest incidences of Campylobacter infections be wary . Just saying as had got it myself after drinking raw milk .
Did you say that you only use the inverter for the cooker ignition? I think even an idle inverter is a draw on the batteries. Just use a match or lighter for the cooker?
We tend to leave the inverter off if not in use, we use it for the washing machine etc but yeah we just flick it on to turn the oven off rather than getting on our knees - a bit lazy really 😂😂
Looks like any romantic notions of boat living would be crushed in short order, especially given the mooring costs and maintenance… living up north will definitely be cheaper.
Nice! Been watching since around sept last year while I was shopping, finally scored myself a little fixer upper called sardine. Over spent a bit but I sort of moved in in my head and once I’d lived that life in a day dream that was it so 🤷🏼♂️ what are you gonna do. Finalised in early December and spent the Xmas break hauling arse up the Grand union canal/oxford/coventry to the Trent and Mersey in the midlands. Really enjoyed myself but I’m solo and theres a couple of big flights! 13 in one day I think was my record!! Shattered. Anyway I’ll be up here doing the Reno so when you make it up if you come this far I’ll comment again and see if I can shout you lunch, your Reno videos have been nothing short of inspiring so if I can compensate your efforts with food and beer then I’d be delighted. Cheer bo! X
Awesome! Sardine’s a great name too 😂😂 Solo is a different game with locks - fair play! Keep in touch when you see us moving north we’re not shy of a pub!
Grand union ! Get north of Hemel / Berko and it's great loads of awesome countryside and great mooring spots especially past Mk and up into Northamptonshire I'll look out for u hope to meet u guys n buy a u beer 👊 - great channel n good luck

Chicken & Chorizo Paella with mussels and large Prawns. I use the Hairy Bikers mums recipe but would like to see your twist on it. Either way it’s a cracking recipe. You can get small 2 person Paella pans with a lid from Go out doors. Enjoy. 👍🏼
Really enjoyed this video and am keen to watch the next one but probably because I’m not that computer literate I can’t seem to find it !! How can I view the videos in date order? By the way you guys are natural TH-camrs!
Hello Joe & Danni , London seems to be expensive for mooring as its the heart of the city, but its nice to explore areas of london tho. Question is the locks hard to push they look so hard sometimes,
Food ingredients. Ive had crocodile and either emu or ostrich. Would like to try something a bit more 'gamey' this year. Maybe rabbit or venison. Probably rabbit as venison is just dead deer. Ba-dum-tss

Yeah we both said we’d save it for the summer - it was a good shout as it ended up flooding badly a week after we left!
I pay 1600 a year for a 30 foot mooring on the River Ouse, York. We thought that was bad, it was 1000 untill last year!
Its not so grim up north lol

Nowthen guys, work your way up North, much better take it from me. This will take some time indeed but Yorkshire/Lancashire on Leeds Liverpool is much more chill.
love your channel you guys doing so well thank you for the london canals........ oohh did I hear you sau your heading towards Uxbright?. I've been near there, was lovley had a flying lessons at an airfield named Denham there many years ago, which is where I met my hubby. see you next week, Happy New Year to you guys.
Yes we’re up by Uxbridge at the minute! Thank you & happy new year!
The alternative to a boat as challenging as it is at times is a 25 year hire purchase house which is a mortgage or rent.
We go to work to pay massive living expenses so we should also put some work into reducing our living expenses on a boat. Just saying ❤😊to those who couldn't possible empty an elsan toilet 😅❤
I love boating and yes it does have its challenging times but its not paying £400000 for a £200000 house from a net wage. ❤
Nice people nice video ❤
30:00 - Tbf I'd probably ask if I could help out with the lock. Always wondered how they work lol
I wouldn't drink unpasteurized milk. Tb is a problem in the UK right now, especially in the south and I believe you can get it through milk
Unpasteurised all the way yum yum.
Very nice 👍 hopefully you had your lens fixed, 👍👍👍👍it’s will be starting to get warmer soon 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
I enjoyed that👍good people🏴.
Thank you!
Good morning and how are you both after the flooding around the country and on the Thames, looking forward to your next video, stay safe.
Touch wood we managed to dodge the floods whilst we were over in East London, happened about a week after we left. Fortunately on the canal here the levels been pretty normal. The winds been a bit more of an issue really but fingers crossed that’s died down.
Hi. Funny question...what make is your coffee machine. I love the colour and it looks so easy to use. You're vlogs are great.
It’s made by swan, it’s great to get used to making coffee’s a bit more manually amzn.to/3SnV8mk - thank you!
What is your coffee machine Joe?
The electric one is a swan - amzn.to/3SnV8mk and the cow print one is by Bialetti but they’re discontinued!
bless you danni cold sores are not nice ou take care x
Thank you!
Great video Joe considering it was your iphone. Hope you’re feeling better Danni. Have great week 😊
Thank you! You too!
Looks like any romantic notions of boat living would be crushed in short order, especially given the mooring costs and maintenance… living up north will definitely be cheaper.
3:16 is that just a normal block of flats overlooking a river? That looks like a sick spot to live
Look forward to seeing you on the River Lee in the summer up near Hertford
Aw we’d love to go on the River Lee, we will see ☺️
Ah sweet yeah we’re looking foreword to the country side! Yeah keep an eye out as we head north we do love a pub 😂
EW! this is how you end up on a polluted contaminated lake, inside an old tub. how do you wash well..
How do you get Hello Fresh delivered to your boat?
We’ve been fortunate to have a friend local to use their address whilst we sort out a poste restante
Happy new year and safe sailing.
Happy new year cheers!
May i ask about Hello Fresh. How do they deliver to you when you move about so much?
We’ve been fortunate to have a friend local at the minute so we’ve been using their address whilst waiting for a Poste Restante
Happy new year to you both. Love your videos. Have you tried using a cold used tea bag on your cold sore. Just hold it on for upto a minute and it helps heal it quicker I find
I use Gengigel. My dentist told me about it and it helps dry and disinfect the skin.
Ooo thank you, will remember that for next time!
Chicken & Chorizo Paella with mussels and large Prawns. I use the Hairy Bikers mums recipe but would like to see your twist on it. Either way it’s a cracking recipe. You can get small 2 person Paella pans with a lid from Go out doors. Enjoy. 👍🏼
Actually had chicken & chorizo paella at a friends house on the weekend - really good. We’ll check out the HB’s recipe though!
@@ItsOhJoe it’s dead easy, I’m famous amongst my friends for the dish. Or so they tell me 🤣🤣👍🏼😎
Good video again, keep up the good work you two, 😁👍
Thank you!
Really enjoyed this video and am keen to watch the next one but probably because I’m not that computer literate I can’t seem to find it !! How can I view the videos in date order? By the way you guys are natural TH-camrs!
, £1200 a month we only pay just over that a year in our marina wow
Crazy hey!
Lady Pennybun is looking so cosy.
Thank you!
Omg I had that tummy bug too so sorry
Seems to be everywhere!
Yep... that morning sickness will get ya 😆. Happy new year guys.
Absolutely not haha 😂
🤣🤣🤣
mooring sickness
Hello Joe & Danni , London seems to be expensive for mooring as its the heart of the city, but its nice to explore areas of london tho. Question is the locks hard to push they look so hard sometimes,
Yeah the locks have been really stiff through London!
Its not the milk its the london canal
Food ingredients. Ive had crocodile and either emu or ostrich. Would like to try something a bit more 'gamey' this year. Maybe rabbit or venison. Probably rabbit as venison is just dead deer.
Ba-dum-tss
😂😂
