Josh, I hit the jackpot!! I retire in December 2023 with almost 27 years teaching. I will be 62 and I honestly cannot wait for the 284 days, 19 hours and 52 minutes to pass, but who is counting? Any way, back to the jack pot! I have a friend that gave me enough hoops to build two 13x24 foot greenhouses and a lot more stuff. This was back in February and my feet have still not touched the ground. I have watched many of your videos. They have helped tremendously. One is almost complete and then I can start building the other. (YES! I CAN!!) Thank you so very much for all your help and even encouragement. I look forward to spending many years just growing food!
Thought that I had my hoophouse all thought out but this video has me taking some more things into consideration. 4 year old videos just as good as the new ones. Gonna have to binge the whole channel!
i'm so glad you produced this. i had toyed with the idea, but borrowed money against my car and bought 2 catapiller tunnels instead; one from farmers friend Gothic, and one from greenhouse megastore regular hoop. so far farmers friend is winning, it's already been delivered, and the driver was great. he unpacked the pallet and moved all the pieces to my wife's trailer. i'll check back once they're both installed. I'll declare a winner.
I found your channel yesterday and immediately subscribed. I’ve since binge watched every video and just wanted to say you have lots of great content and are a natural at this. It shows by the quick growth of your channel. I like your growing methods and that you explain how you do things completely so I walk away feeling like I can apply it to my own garden. Looking forward to seeing future videos!
Good job. Bringing up the potential for the polyethylene and the PVC was unique and explaining the whole deal without having to endure the build footage was also a winner from my point of view.
Josh, thank you for your videos on DIY loop houses. I have been so blessed to have your insights and experiences to use when building my first greenhouse. You have really inspired me as I am just starting my garden space.
Your ingenuity and K I S S approach ( Keepin it simple silly), is ingenious and makes me smile in gratitude from ear to ear, So inspiring, I can't wait to get started! Thanks Sir Josh Sattin. ~ Lovin it.
We built our hoop house without a kit, using chain link fence top rail, a bender, hangers, and wiggle wire from Johnny’s. It turned out really well and has survived two years so far. We are in a very high wind area and at high altitude, so UV was a serious concern. I love your honesty about not having plans and winging it. Lots of good advice in your video!
Living in Southern Louisiana, I made a pvc hot house with 3/4 inch conduit and sheet pvc. The frame made with the pvc conduit worked great...however the sheet pvc shredded in the wind once it got above 85 degrees f. I only had it on the top portion, the bottom I had clear corrugated panels. I was trying to protect for heavy rains. I now use clear 4 mil vinyl sheeting I bought at the burlap factory online. 54" x 25' rolls. It has been up for 2 years and all I have to do is clean the vinyl twice a year.
Thanks for sharing and explaining so well, I have a polytunnel 20 x 10, that is made of 32mm bars, but the plastic that was supplied was the green sock type you pull over the hoops and bury in the ground, but I never got a chance to put in a shovel of soil inside as a storm hit Ireland and lifted it out of the ground completely, your video helps me update the polytunnel by adding timber sides and hip rails and then ordering clear plastic sheeting to reskin the rails.Cheers and Thanks from Kildare Ireland.
Hi jimmy..from Co.Galway. i think that you n we bought from the same company. Both of ours lifted, just frames standing. In 2010 built a black water pipe and disused trampoline legs, 🔩 together.. base framesetc except the lid. Dismantled now but going to reinstall. Thinking about how/ what to do regards the other bought frames. Regards and blessings to you this year😊 .
Wow awesome. I just subscribed. This was awesome. So much information. I just bought my retirement property. Looking forward to a little farming. This is so good ty.
Thanks bro. You have inspired me. We live in zones3-2 in Manitoba,Canada. Like you say build according to your micro climate. My idea where we are is to maybe erect the tunnel on pony walls, keeping in mind that the sun is lower in the sky in winter. Way to go.
Great job!. I love your design. I like how the sides roll up all the way down the full length of the hoop. So cool. Your tomatoes look great too. Nice.
Josh. Thank you for sharing your DIY greenhouse. I'm turning 70 and the kit version sounds a lot easier for me! We are near the woods and a smaller kit green house should be the perfect solution. I also want to make a few hoop covers for some raised beds. Are there smaller green house hoops available that will not react with the plastic? You did a great job. I understand trying to improve on your weather patterns. We are in NH and it is COLD at the moment. A green house would be a great addition to our property.
Most people use fencing top rail or EMT conduit. Either will last a long time and won't interact with the poly. They also won't get brittle in the cold.
This is my dream man, you are living my dream haha, I love gardening and have just managed to get my self a small area of land behind my house to grow on, its been alot of work preparing the ground and making it into a proper organic vegetable garden and but im getting close :) Also so glad we found your channel :)
Thanks for the video. We are at the beginning stages of farming and we think your videos are right in line with what we are doing. We followed your trellis advice for our tomatoes and we'll hope for the best. Keep those videos coming.
Fantastic info. I've been a carpenter most of my life but you certainly offered some very useful information. I will be building a take-down for my 15' x 40' main garden bed.
I like his videos, too! The work is immense oftentimes; but this is more like how our ancestors did it. They really worked hard, or they just didn't eat! I wish more ppl gardened & farmed & didn't depend on grocery stores & processed foods, etc.
So happy that your channel is gaining subscribers quickly. You have a great style of explaining things and your videos are great. I have been considering to make my own poly tunnel, so your video is very timely. Thanks for the honest info. Cheers!
First time I've seen your channel. Great job (with the video and with your farm)! I built a very similar high tunnel 2.5 years ago using the same materials and construction methods. It's working out pretty well so far. Like you, I was also on a budget and used PVC bows. If I was going to do it again, I'd spend the extra money on galvanized top rail and a bender. I know it's a different decision in the moment when there are 10 other things to spend money on! I'm in Michigan and we get a lot of snow. The PVC bows need to be reinforced with a beam running the length of the high tunnel and several vertical posts in order to support the snow load - which is a pain. We grow the same things in our tunnel - greens fall through spring and tomatoes and peppers in the summer. We have used the lower and lean method for tomatoes with good success. The only other thing we added to our tunnel was rabbit fencing.
I'm only now meeting your channel but I figure It's probably good that you DIY'D since with the ready made tunnel you may not have had the flexibility to know for yourself that you didn't need the door....maybe you'd have bought one with a door. But I am a DIY guy as well and I know you'll know that it helps to get a good idea overall of what was required. In future you'll know not to order an included door.
like your honesty about DIY, or buying it :) sometimes you cant do it much cheaper and better then people doing it the hole day and make it an industry :) but im the guy who has to fin´d out by his own to often my self :D anyway great greenhouse!
Thanks for such an informative video. You covered pretty much everything you'd need to know about building a hightunnel that not all the other videos offer. Keep us posted on the grows. cheers!
I built my tunnel just like you . Mine is 18x30=three PVC for the ribs and base boards out of composite deck wood because I found enough for cheap. I couldn't make up my mind about the treated wood. I'm also zone 7b desert New Mexico and my biggest issue is the wind and wild rabbits. My tunnel keeps the wind from blowing the mulch away and the rabbits out. Also instead the duck tape I painted the conduit with Primer and it hasn't ripped yet even with vibration. I did lay drip pipes 18" apart which is too far apart 12" will be the re design next summer but I can still grow a lot. I see people string up their Tomatoes like you and I will finally try this next year also. I'm still trying to figure out the timing for growing greens in the winter. I will keep watching you, I think you have the answer. Thanks
When your to atoes are very small seedlings if you put a fan on them 2-3 times a day for ten minute intervals it will cause the plants to bend easier so you can just lay them on the ground and put soil or compost on them. My plant use to get 20 - 30 foot long.
Great videos. I have been starting my own setup and have been enjoying your content. The last video that I watched, you asked for suggestions to make your videos better. I thought about it for a bit and the only thing I could say that you could improve on is just a wireless mic lol no big deal but I have noticed the volume on your videos is much lower than other videos online. Not a necessity, I was just trying to give some feedback to you. Again, great videos. Thank you for all the information.
I will increase the volume a bit more. I have a decent microphone so I can increase the volume in my editor. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for watching!
Interesting you mention the rainy season. Could you put a greenhouse type structure over the beds you plan on harvesting for that week? It would keep rain off, create a dry and clean work environment and you’d be in better control of the pre-harvest watering. Heat might be a problem though. I’m interested in any ideas...
Great information. In the video I like that you don’t waste time talking about yourself like some videos I have watched. I do wish you would have talked more about the role up flap. How do you secure it to the bottom when high winds are present?

I've been trying for months and it doesn't look like I'll have tunnels for the first part of this year unless I do something creative. I can get PVC conduit, though, so I'm thinkin' it might just have to work. I'm like you (Tennessee Cumberland Plateau), rain, rain, rain. Almost completely wiped out my tomatoes last year (unprotected) and I really want them under protection. They were supposed to be for sale and I had just enough for personal use, barely.

The reason you're getting subscribers so fast is because of the way you present the information. Keep it up - loving all your videos!
Thank you!

THANK YOU for your honesty in telling us to buy a kit & where to get a good one from!
I have always thought about sides you can open and close. You’re the first video I’ve seen. I like it a lot.
More videos please and congratulations on your ten thousand mark. Keep up the great work. 🇨🇦
Thank you. It's been so much fun so far. Lots more to come!
I'm impressed with your wonderful material play!
Looks nice, solid in case of high winds. Tomatoes and lettuces look really great, making me wish I had a garden.
I live in Panama, the rainy season is upon us {lots and lots of rain} and it
looks like I will be building your greenhouse....thanks
As the climatic conditions keep changing across the globe we have to find practical ways to keep the food production going. All the best to you.

Good job. Bringing up the potential for the polyethylene and the PVC was unique and explaining the whole deal without having to endure the build footage was also a winner from my point of view.
We have a Morgan County Seed Tunnel from Zimmerman, the kit was easy to build and saved a lot of time.
It was a nice step by step explanation on the construction of tunnel. It was really helpful
Your high tunnel is really simple and easy.. it's a good design.. thanks for your video's.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Love the way you get to the point! Great channel!!!!

I just subscribed. This was awesome. So much information. I just bought my retirement property. Looking forward to a little farming. This is so good ty.
You did a good job. I'll be covering mine with the 6 mill plastic today. I like your roll up sides.
Hands down best diy and well explaibed
You thought it out well. Nice work!
Thank you!

Hubert Young Saskatchewan here, zone 3.
That is a great size green house you have there and that was a great video clip you put up there 👍👍🍅🍅
Great job!. I love your design. I like how the sides roll up all the way down the full length of the hoop. So cool. Your tomatoes look great too. Nice.
Thanks Josh, this is what I needed to see. I might make mine with three 10ft pipes. A little higher and wider
Thank you!!! I have a deep desire for a good greenhouse and this makes total sense!
I'm in the process of building one of these ! Nice job!

I don't know of any smaller kits. Maybe try www.bootstrapfarmer.com/
Great video with very useful information and tips. Clear explanation. Thank you.

Will do. Thanks for watching!
Liked your video and your honesty as to just buy a pre-made 1 for convenience and versatility.
Still thought you did a good build. Thank you.
Most excellent Josh! Just WOW!
Thank you! Glad you like the video.
Thanks Josh. Nice work.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
New subscriber. Getting inspired. Like your humble approach.

Jeez this Chanel is growing fast!! Good videos m8

Good tips. I especially like the roll up wall system. Thanks for sharing.
From Argentina! Your videos are Amazing man! Congrats👍🎉🎉
So happy that your channel is gaining subscribers quickly. You have a great style of explaining things and your videos are great. I have been considering to make my own poly tunnel, so your video is very timely. Thanks for the honest info. Cheers!
Another great video! FYI, 6’ cedar fence pickets are a good alternative to PTL, and they’re way less expensive than regular lumber.
Yeah I love those. I used them to build my compost bins. Not as thick and sturdy as 2x6's though.

Matt Schwartz can you please describe your rabbit fencing? Thanks!
I can't wait to try to build my own. Thanks for the info
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Excellent, the teacher in you shows!!! TY
Thank you for sharing, great way to set up the tomatoes inside 😊
Great info. Thanks for sharing. Very helpful
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Good skill. I wasn't ready.
Great job! this was greatly helpful for us designing our greenhouse now. Thank you so much!!
New subscriber. You have a great channel man. Very inspiring.
Thanks. I loved your version of what was most practical for you! Keep Gardening! Keep use posted please!
I like your channel its very informative. Tnx for sharing sir!
If you live anyplace where it snows you might consider using a 90 degree elbow at the top to make a stronger Gothic arch.
Very good video. Thanks for sharing.

That's exactly what I thought! Awesome job man!
Very cool! Really enjoy your videos!!
Hi. Great video. I'm assembling my greenhouse today. About half done.
Awesome! Good luck!
it looks very nice.
like your honesty about DIY, or buying it :) sometimes you cant do it much cheaper and better then people doing it the hole day and make it an industry :) but im the guy who has to fin´d out by his own to often my self :D anyway great greenhouse!
Looks really great. I appreciate you sharing your thought process.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing helpful insights on putting up a simple greenhouse.
Thanks for such an informative video. You covered pretty much everything you'd need to know about building a hightunnel that not all the other videos offer. Keep us posted on the grows. cheers!
First time here. Subbed! Great delivery of good and usable content. Can’t wait to see more. Looks like a marathon video Sunday lol. Thanks!
Hey there! Glad you like the video. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thank you for another video jam packed with useful information. Could you do a video about how you sell your products? Thanks!!
You're welcome! That's on my list of videos to make. Just so you know, I deliver weekly boxes to families and sell to chefs.
This is excellent! Thank you for sharing.
Same way I built one of mine except regular poly. One of my tunnels was 12’ high and the tomatoes still touched and came back down.
I built my tunnel just like you . Mine is 18x30=three PVC for the ribs and base boards out of composite deck wood because I found enough for cheap. I couldn't make up my mind about the treated wood. Nice DIY. I’m in Youngsville.
Nice!
Getting ready to build. Going to us 10mil. We are in Gander Newfoundland and Labrador Canada!

Excellent info, thank you! I'm just a few hours away in VA Beach, and getting ready to plan a smaller tunnel, really helpful stuff
Useful tips for the beginners like us! Many thanks for sharing! AL🌺HA!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant idea
Timely. Great videos.
Well explained, fun watching, learned a lot. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
Josh, it's very informative, exactly what I was looking for. Subscribed!
Great videos. I have been starting my own setup and have been enjoying your content. The last video that I watched, you asked for suggestions to make your videos better. Hi. There is a way to push the tomatoes down like a spiral. Read about it ;) No need to raise the whole tunnel. good luck
Very Nice !!!🌿💚🌳🌿
Interesting you mention the rainy season. Could you put a greenhouse type structure over the beds you plan on harvesting for that week? It would keep rain off, create a dry and clean work environment and you’d be in better control of the pre-harvest watering. Heat might be a problem though. I’m interested in any ideas...
Yeah I don't see why you couldn't do that. As long as you could move your structure easily enough.
Josh Sattin that movability might be the biggest problem.
Great job 🤗🤗👍👍
You are a hop, skip, and a jump from me in Fayetteville.
Nice!
Not bad for DIY- thanks for sharing.
Great information. In the video I like that you don’t waste time talking about yourself like some videos I have watched. I do wish you would have talked more about the role up flap. How do you secure it to the bottom when high winds are present?
Thank you. Very informative love watching your video's!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
The quick zoom into the chickens face in the intro makes me laugh every I see it. Don't change that, ever.
Perfect timing . . thanks, just getting started and need to look at your irrigation layout next. PS Thanks for talking fast, it works. Eric
Thanks for sharing. Just realized your not that far I’m probably going to be in Raleigh this weekend
Your videos are so great
Greetings from SC just south of Charlotte, NC.
Hi Josh, I know this is an older video, but I am looking in this direction as a possibility, not because I wouldn't rather have a metal framework tunnel. The problem is actually getting one. Lots of places won't even take an order anymore and claim they just can't get the steel.
Excellent job ..
Nice content Josh you answered a bunch of questions I had for my own project!! Best of luck and keep it coming. You have a new sub today!!!😃😃😃
Thank you!
