Amazon tool is a ripoff at $8.99. I went to Lowe's and got a Kwikset key change kit for $12.89 INCLUDING 6 new keys. Same kit is $11.47 on Amazon. Be careful with the tool, though, it's more fragile the the full metal tool you use. But your video was most appreciated.
Your video here is helpful. Unfortunately after I bought the new Kwikset lock my Emtek key will not fit into the new Kwikset lock. I think Emtek and Schlage are interchangeable and neither of these brand keys will work with a Kwikset lock. So I have to return the new Kwikset I bought and start new. FYI to all others, before you buy a Kwikset lock with Smart Key make sure your existing keys will work with Kwikset.
BUT ... I want to use my old (existing key) with the new lock. How do I do this as your video show that I have to start using the new keys that came with the new lock. I do not want to do this as this means I have to use 2 different keys from now on, my older (existing key PLUS the new key that came with the new lock. Did I miss something here?
The lock came keyed to the new keys. All you need to do is do this process with your old key and then the new lock will only be programmed to your old key

You have to pull the tumbler out and reset the pins. The lock is now likely programmed to none of the keys that you have. Do it over a cloth as the pieces are super tiny. Take your time

What about the door knob? My door knob and keypad came as a set. Somewhere along the line things got messed up. It's a Kwikset setup. The key will work the keypad but not the door knob.

LOl I live in apartment complex w/80 units that just changed every lock in the complex because someone broke in the office and stole all the keys. All they had to do is by this tool and some keys . The locks cost $30 apiece PLUS the keys . The keys by themseoves cost $3 apiece. Corporate office isn't very good with math i guess.
OK so, correct me if Im missing something, you stick in an OLD KEY, use the Reset tab, and lock NOW works with Old Key....... Couldnt a Burglar do the same thing to Open ANY house with this? Like stick in one of his many keys that fit, use the Tab and now HIS KEY opens that door?
You need the original key the lock is already keyed to in order to change to a different key. So no, a burglar couldn't stick any key in and have it work unless the burglar had the original key as well.

I purchased 3 lock sets today, all Kwikset SmartKey with 2 keys each. Is it possible all six keys look exactly alike? Some isn’t right? Suggestions?
When they sell them at the store a bunch of them are the same ones. There are numbers on the box.

You can pull the entire assembly out completely reset all the pins. It's super tedious and the pieces are extremely tiny.
Is it OK to discard the original keys that no longer work after rekeying or is there some reason to save them?
There is no real reason to keep them

What if you mess up programming the new key and now the old and new both don't work?
I'm fairly certain that means no key will work on that. You'll likely have to take the tumbler out and reset everything

You have to take the tumbler apart. It's extremely tedious and very very very hard to put it back together

That is not even possible. There are knobs on the inside not a keyholes. 🙄
