Thank you, I can't tell you how much your video helped me. I rekeyed my deadbolt, and my door handle locks on both my front and my back doors making the same key plus a spare key! Your video is the best!
It would be interesting to see the tumbler and how that works. Once got a steel door that had a mortise lock on it but didn’t have any keys. Rekeyed that to a key I already had. The hardware store even gave me the pins I needed for free. Really proud of that door. It went from a big piece of scrap metal to a really good lookin door and cost nothing but time.
I tried this with my original keys that were about 20 years old. the smart lock did not work with the old key. it would not unlock. after fooling with it for about 10 minutes i was able to get the old key to turn, and reprogrammed the new key that came with the lock and it worked fine. If you have old keys that are worn, beware they may not work very well
I just picked up 2 knob/deadbolt combos…to my surprise, the keys that came with each set are identical and open each other…are these keys “dummy keys”, or did I just get that lucky.
If it was in the same manufacturing batch, they'll have the same key combo. They only go through so many templates for combos. More than enough to not really be able to just get into someone's house with your key, but not enough that you won't have the same key between two locks that were on the shelf at the same time.
What if I don’t have the original key to my dead bolt and I just bought a new Kwikset door handle set. Can I rekey the new key with the old dead bolt without the old dead bolt key?

Thanks for watching! 😃
Thanks for this video. I didn't realize I had this feature or type of lock until I went to buy the same lock after losing keys!

Excellent video, shockingly easy to do the job, though if you just look at the paper instructions it doesn't look so easy. Gold to have this video.

I agree - I'd like to see a TH-cam video on how that mechanism works. Clever guy who thought that through.
Thank you! This video made it very easy.
Where do you get the new key from? when you buy the blank how do you know how to get it cut?
Thanks for taking the time to show that! I like to have a couple different examples when fixing something new.
This video is the abousloute best! I did it! Now, to my back door, thank you.
Well explained and filmed! Thanks!
AMAZING THANK YOU
Thanks so much for this!!!!
That's pretty cool
So, how do you get a new key cut? Does the cutter just make a random key?
Thank you for this video. Yours is the best! Now, i have to go try it, breathe and relax.
What if you need new keys for all the locks? How do you get a random key cut?
I hope the bottom was also supposed to be in the locked position .....about to find out.....hope not the hard way.
Yeah! It was and worked! I am a little nervous my key is also upside down but my door is opposite???

Why such a lengthy video for some simple steps?
If they are so simple why are you watching? 🤔
Why would you cut when your turn the new key 180 degrees. 😫😫
To triple check the directions... 😂
@@thefixerhomerepair2😂 can you do this again with if you lose the new rekey? Or do you always need the original?
mine can work with both keys, the old and the new ones wtf
WOW A 15 SECVIDEO THAT TOOK 5 MINUTESLOL
