Great video as per usual. Regarding raglan sleeves. One reason you may not like them on yourself, could be the slope of your shoulders, particularly if you have narrow ones. I have very sloped and narrow shoulders and raglan sleeves make them look non-existent. Using shoulder pads designed for raglan sleeves can make a huge difference. (I use two per shoulder) Hope this is of use to you.
Hi Luan! Just a heads up about dark denim. When I took a jeans making class, our instructor had us wash our dark denim 2x on a hot water setting before we came to the class. I wish I had done it a third time. Dark denim, even when washed cold afterwards, tends to also keep shrinking just a wee bit. She wouldn't let us cut or hem our jeans either (we just cuffed them) until we'd worn and washed them a few more times. Your plans are exciting and I just wanted to thank you once more for all the Vlogmas videos. I loved them. Happy New Year from across the pond in upstate New York! Looking forward to more inspiration, laughs and company from you in 2025!🎆
Hello Ruan Thank you for volgmas and sharing your sewing and life well done On the blouse I think anyone can wear a white blouse and I totally agree the colors are not all pastel What about using green or mustard buttons or a mustard or green collar like the color blocked one you showed but just the collar To give you color by your face Just a thought. I would definitely do The color buttons Enjoy your sewing your friends will love the bags Take care Happy new year Looking forward to seeing you in the sewing room
Great video! Lots of nice projects. Beware of dolman sleeve cropped jumpers, they will ride up as soon as you lift your arms. Longer version doesn't do that for some reason. Looking forward to seeing the results.
Hi Ruan, love the fabric for the Lotta dress. Only have one make for January as I live in Spain but planning a week back in UK at the end of January and I need a warm jacket. Hope I get it done in time. Happy New Year.
Fabulous plans! I am currently in the middle of cutting out lots of Drews 😂 I have cut out a dress hack and a sparkly mesh one. The next one will be my first colour blocked one, but I need to trace off the pattern pieces for that one! I have two lots of fabric coming to make two more too! I am obsessed with it! 😂😂 So today will mostly be spent tracing patterns that I want to make. The Nell and lahja robe ooo and a skirt too I think! Then tomorrow I will get some cut out hopefully! I really need to get the crescent tote bag cut out too! So many plans! 🤣 Looking forward to seeing your makes 😍
Great plans. I made the larger one in a dark denim for my granddaughter for Christmas with a striped batik cotton . I thought it was perfect for college. And it's denim so she can customise with badges etc if she wants. I made the self tie handle. For 2025 I want to finish all the projects I was going to do in 2024.😎❤
Thank you so much Ryan for taking the time to make a little video to entertain us all in twixmas. I have now made 3 caddies not Adam’s pattern because I didn’t realise until recently that he had one and I would have definitely bought his first, if I’d known. They’re a pleasure to make. If anyone has looked at Adam’s website and thought they’re expensive, after making your own and buying all the supplies TBH I don’t think he’s changing enough. Can’t wait to see yours. Happy new year 🥳 ❤
I used my Bestie bag as my airport bag to keep passport/phone/earbuds and other essentials to hand. If you wear it on your chest it's quite pickpocket-proof too 👍
Thanks Ruan. I made a practice caddy. I didn’t have all the materials in the right size so made a smaller version and it comes together really well. Have fun with all your projects. x
Lovely sewing plans. I’m interested in seeing your size choice for the Pannini shirt and your Lotta dress will be beautiful in the viscose print. Most excited about how you get on with the caddy. It’s going to be fabulous. Happy sewing, Ruan. x
Plans look great Ruan, & love the fabrics that Adam put together for you. I think your mum will be really pleased to have another sweater in that beautiful fabric you showed - good luck & happy sewing.😊
Hello Ruan! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. I’m glad for the peace and quiet now 😅. Just sat down for breakfast and there you are. Today is a deep cleaning day for me. Starting fresh for the new year, yay! Well, it looks like you’re going to be a very busy person 😄. I love all your makes and the fabrics to along with them. I love Adam. He’s so sweet and talented. He made me a caddy for my birthday two years ago. My son, such a good boy (he’s 30 but he will always be my baby 😊) gave me the money for it. I use the caddy all the time. I love the fabric for the Jarrah. I bought some from Andrea at the beginning of December. I want to make a sweatshirt. Haven’t picked out the pattern yet. Decisions decisions 😃. Wishing you and your family a wonderful New Year’s. See you next year. As always, thank you for sharing! Your friend Diane ❤
That was a nice surprise, seeing the notification that you'd posted! And now my list of makes is slightly longer for 2025. 😬 I'm going to give the caddy a go I think and the Lotta dress. I already had the Jarrah sweater on my list from one of your Vlogmas posts. No shortage of inspiration here! Thank you. (That's me kept out of mischief for a while 😂) 👌
Oh my gosh my Queenie would use that leopard one… I made her a leopard bag - she uses her bag ALL the time Not sure why you think the weather is good here… I’ve just put the heaters onto 28 degrees!! I’m frozen. I’m in Wellington Love your parents to come via Wellers ❤ 🥰🦩🥰🦩
Ooh my gawd, yes to the lotta in the fabric , like it , love it!! I feel the need to make the bestie bag , yours look like fun ones . Hope you ,Steve & your gorgeous boys have had a lovely Christmas 🎄 x
Lovely to see you again Ruan and all your wonderful sewing plans. Your Adam caddy will look amazing and I would be excited to make it too😃 Thanks for reminding me I need to make another Jarrah and use my BTPD fabric aswell 😊 Happy New Year!
The fabrics for Panini and Lotta are beautiful. All of your fabrics are lovely actually, the French Terry for your Mum’s Jarrah will be great for her holiday. Looking forward to you having a caddy made up in the fabrics Adam chose for you.
I have the bestie bag pattern and I was trying to think of a plain black fabric for the exterior… I hadn’t given denim a thought but think that’s a great idea! I have two yards in my stash - guess what I’m doing today lol.
Lovely plans Ruan. Thank you. The Lotta in the black floral fabric will look amazing. I have just purchased the Panini blouse pattern, just deciding on the fabric.
You've got me thinking I need to make a Bestie bag Ruan. You're a bad influence but in a good way 😂. Your makers caddy will be fabulous, love Tula Pink fabric. Hope you & yours have had a lovely Christmas & thanks for another lovely podcast. X
Great makes in your future, the bestie bag is nice in your remnant from the coat. If your friend doesn't like I would...haha I love the BTPD fun fetti, I hope to order some now that our postal strike is off.
Hey girl!!! I’ve missed you! The hubby got Covid on Christmas Eve and of course I got it by Friday! Fortunately the “big” Christmas for us isn’t celebrated until mid January, so there’s still the opportunity to celebrate!
I have made a couple of the Panini Blouse, super easy make, i did size down a bit, I made the short sleeve version on one as I have now become a cardigan wearer !. When I made the long sleeve option I brought in the cuff area, sort of faux pleated to make a cuff, I brought it in using a single piece of elastic inside, and maraflex thread as I am not a fan of visible zig zag. I am yet to make the Bestie bag, I did the Banana bags thing a couple of decades ago and I loved them then. Might have a go this weekend, as it seems quite large remnant friendly. Thanks for taking the time to share.
I've made loads of Jarrah sweaters Ruan. Inspired by you and I've just purchased the lotta dress pattern, also inspired by you. And Becs. You are a lovely thoughtful friend and daughter, to sew for other people. You are gonna, be busy.
Hi from new Zealand. Just letting you know it's wet and cold atm so might definitely will need the sweatshirt. Often nice weather dosent arrive til feb. Happy new year. Love Clare
Just purchased the Jarrah sweater and am going to try the split sleeve having seen yours, and Rachel’s versions. ❤ all your plans and fabric choices. Wishing you a fabulous 2025 full of good health and much happiness. 😊
Great video, what would suggest for a beginner top to make? Not a sweatshirt, more like a blouse or tee-shirt? Possibly raglan or something with set in sleeves. I want to learn how to make tops and then pants etc. maybe some pattern companies you recommend?
Look forward to seeing your makes, particularly the caddy as I would be interested to know how you get on sewing the vinyl. I've tried with my machine and it didn't like it, but I had the vinyl itself straight on the feed dogs and I ended up with a lovely stitch on the top and a nest underneath🙄. I probably need to place this on some tear away stuff (can't remember the proper name) so there something between the vinyl and feed dogs. Anyway if you have any tips I would most appreciate your advice. Maybe I should ask Adam to do a tutorial 😂.
If you fold you binding in half, then open and bring the sides into the centre fold and press, then press in half again, you can slot your binding over the edge of your vinyl and then when you stitch it down, you have fabric top and bottom with no vinyl on the feed dogs or foot, not the way I normally do binding in my patterns, but it’s a good hack so you never sew the vinyl directly 😊

Lovely makes. The green you are wearing suits you so well. That fabric as a Lotta will be gorgeous. X
The leopard print fleece actually looks amazing with your dark green and maybe a golden caramel, leopard print with deep red or dark green is my fav

Oh, I’m jealous of your mom’s shirt fabric!! Love the white background.
Love your sewing plans...what would tou suggest as the easiest sweatshirt to make
Through the camera I see a pinky/peach color in the animal print fabric.

Sorry to say the weather is not so good here in New Zealand. Wet and cold in Wellington.
