I'll be honest: I am probably in the minority here, but I loved every single shot - except the living room one. This short proves you're ready to shoot for Netflix or Apple!
My advice is cut it again and reduce what’s not absolutely essential. My first short suffered the same not enough close up and extreme close content. It’s hard to get the emotional connection with so many mid shots. Great effort though
@@ohgeezus_his advice actually isn’t bad… just keep what’s essential, and increase intent with the focal lengths. Do you feel like he was wrong with his advice?
Gee max dont be in a hurry to help erica as she is being dragged away lets just take our time clearly this woman needs a real man this one is probably one of the worst horror husbans or boyfriend' that id ever seen on screen .but the movie was aesome i definitely agree with the positive comments on the comment boared but yeah sweet heart you definitely need a new man LOL .
Some times I’m scared of making a film in fear of it turning out like this. Your cinematography is usually a lot better than this so I’m not sure why even with a Venice it doesn’t live up to your shorts. Shoot your own stuff man, this DP set you back.
@@rockwell7043the only problem with this is him. He’s a shitty writer and director. The casting is uninspired and the dialogue is very bland and terrible at times. The story is shit and it’s clear he doesn’t have much to say.
@@fatherfigureofficial Check out Danny Givertz’ IM THINK IM SICK… it’s outdoor scenes look like a Netflix movie, their Venice mustn’t have been as heavy. 😭 actually to be fair i watched the behind the scenes to this film and it seems the director was bumping heads with the DOP who came in last minute or something, and even said himself he would do things a different way if he was using the Venice… so sadly i think the lesson here wasn’t the camera, but having a DP you get along with and is willing to listen to the director ….
Why wasn't your subject in the opening credits lit? Just the kitchen! Cinematography should evidence the ability to paint with light. Expensive digital cameras do not make up for the lack of creative use of light. Refer to Noir films for inspiration. Good luck in the future. 😎😎
pretty good, but the consistency was a bit off, for example after he jumped in the water and got out he was soaked and then it cut to him walking back to the building and his clothing was completely dry. I'm sure you learned a lot from this.
I know criticism is welcome here so here is some input from a random person: - the first scene 0:32 introduces the "spirit" as one which alters the person and makes him a "zombie". This isn't aligned with the scene where it takes the girl 18:49. It would've been a lot nicer if the spirit took the man in the kitchen throught the door the same as the girl. It would add consistency and panic to the movie. - at 6:50 it would be nicer if the gas station lady helped the guy stand up and then guy thanks her and runs away. It would add to her character. Her just walking inside and then being wierded out because the guy left makes her look bad. It's a completely understandable situation. - 7:57 isn't she supposed to say "yeah... I thought so" ? - 8:34 my intuition says she shouldn't be smiling but be worried just like in the next shot. - 18:48 this needs more panic. Max also needed to be reminded 3 times by her screams that she is being taken away. I know it's meant as a way to transition the viewer back into action after the b-roll but it doesn't fit in this case. The b-roll should've happened before the action and action should've been pure panic. I don't get why so many dislikes... It's awesome to see all the behind the scenes and then actual resulting film. It's a film most people will never be able to make in their lives. I don't get why so many people don't appreciate the work.

I think the framing was chosen to give the audience a sense of uneasiness. Sometimes you have to break the rules in order to serve the story. Not every shot has to be well composed.
30K for that? wow ooooooookkkkkay hmm. i could had filmed the same exact thing for 3K and saved 27K for a feature film and numerous short films with a better script. just saying my honest opinion since I watched the BTS. i guess your film crew happily accepted their day rate at 350 per day. with the amount of money spent I at least would have had 2 celebrities in it for the lead and supporting actor. and one more thing, I never tell how much you spent on a production, keep that to yourself. as for the story, I was lost. once my film drops The Curse of Claire Stephens I'll send you a link for you to check out and guess what the budget was. if your happy about your film that's all that matters but I wouldn't had put that much money behind it. at the most 5 to 7K if even that, its all about connections. leave it up to Director Rick Carr best believe I'm getting it for freeeee.
Neil Breen is so good at acting, he plays Spenser Sakurai as a writer and director

Yeah living room was meh but the rest 🤌🏼
Well done, amazing work. I’m happy we are finally able to see it. It definitely left me wanting more.

I’m watching again and TH-cam does not do this film justice. Still love everything about it. That opening shot was fire.
Really Awesome to see it all come together in the end!

Been watching you since your scene recreations, very cool to see you take on bigger projects
Yeah I was gonna say the first shot has to go. I still don’t get the ending.
Yeah what was on the floor?
great short I can definitely see a series made based of this film.

Did other people have input into the edit, colour and framing. Like I just look at how great your shorts are, and this doesn’t seem like your work.

because this is a 30 minute outdoor movie and the venice is as heavy as a car to carry around and set up.
@@fatherfigureofficial bahahahhahah okay sure, its a bad film because the camera is heavy. Noted.

The "bad" framing of the first shot was foreshadowing.
what do you mean?
The poor criticising of other peoples efforts is also foreshadowing… Lets see your work. KEEN to make our own comments.
