I like your solution. And as you said if you need to turn the occasional taper the setting method you have used is easily reversible. Keep up the informative videos.
My Taiwanese ENCO is made the same. The camlock, and adjustment bolts, holds it all together. We usually adjust the tailstock to keep from turning a taper. LOL I like your solution. An adjustable live center will allow for turning a long shallow taper.

Excellent tip, my tailstock always flexes when tightening the clamp, so I hope your method means its set once and stays set.
