  • This is the Pinner Cine Society Newsreel for 1964. One of the HCVS archive films showing life and events going on in Pinner in 1964. The film was compiled by A Attwood & D Castle with contributions from F Barrington, D Buckley & W Henley .

    SUCH a shame that the Embassy North Harrow was demolished to be replaced with a Safeway supermarket, I used to go to Saturday morning pictures there. Around this time the Rex at Northwood Hills became an International Stores, the South Harrow (ABC?) became a Sainsbury's, one of the Ruislip cinemas (Essoldo or Rivoli - can't remember which) became a Sainsbury's, the Odeon Rayners Lane became a club. and not long afterwards the Langham (later Mayfair) Pinner became a Safeway's and the ABC Harrow was divided with the circle remaining a cinema (Indian) and the lower part becoming a club or something similar. The Odeon (or was it ABC) Wembley disappeared too. Sigh.........
