I like the fact that they are driving round quite effortlessly until they get to Bushey Arches, where they sit in a traffic jam. Some things haven't changed!
If only Olde England was still like that, it has changed beyond recognition. Priceless footage, but very sad music, makes me feel like crying. I yearn for those days of the 1980s, I am middle aged and I feel so old now. 😢
my father worked for Braziers ,his milk wagon was horse powered ,he told the story of the horse knew when to turn the wagon around as it was his last delivery in the Harebreakes ,and then it would gallop all the way back to the depot , then it got fed ,my father said the horse did not slow down as it crossed St Albans Road .Went passed my first house I bought in 1975 in Whippendale Road ,sold it in 1981 ,to move to NZ . Such memorys .
Lived in Watford all my life, it’s ruined now with flats everywhere. Fond memories of the carnival in St Albans road. Love seeing it how it was back then, thankyou for the videos.
Took me a while to get my bearings there, starts in Baldwin’s Lane in Croxley , down to the two bridges , then on to Whippen-Delhi road as we called it in the 80’s , I’d have probably been sitting in my class at Watford Boys when this was being filmed
kcorclux Thanks so much for uploading these clips, I've lived in Watford all of my life and seeing this was just like having a real life time machine. I Also love the Mahler in the background.
Sun Printers on the right at the bottom of Whippendell Road 2 and a bit minutes in - it'd already been closed by Robert Maxwell by then. By the spring of 1989 it lay derelict with all its windows broken and lay there in that sad state for years until it was eventually demolished and the stuff that's there now was put up. Also mid-way through the old Watford FC frontage before they replaced the big old Vicarage Road terrace with the scoreboard on it circa 1993.
Hi...The music to the cassiobury park vid starts with the slow movement from The Piano concerto for two pianos by Poulenc......then at 1-10 the music changes to Ravel's Pavane... it changes again at 60-1 to "In Paradisum" from Faures Requiem....beautiful stuff.....If you get these on CDs they'll sound ten times better than the crap recordings I put up with these clips!
To Chris Ogle.......cant seem to answer you via the normal means!? There are Watford drive abouts 1988 parts two three and four.....and cassiobury park 1988
02:39 A Brazier's Dairy milk float - I worked for them in the seventies. (Roy Brazier is dead now, alas, and the Oxhey Lane dairy business is closed down.)
@macdonald671 Hi......not sure if you'll get this as my computer keeps cocking up! Glad you liked the 1988 clips....I'm sure you know that the Mahler is from his 5th Symphony........I filmed these clips in 1988 cos it took me back to when I was a child in 1958!!
@kcorclux Thanks for the reply. I actually had never even heard of Mahler until I viewed your video but liked it so much i went out and bought a Mahler CD. Whats the name of the piece that's playing over your Cassiobury Park video? I thought it was Venus frrom Holst's The Planet's at first but don't think it is.
