    I have the majestic Custom Urushi vermillion with the M nib. And the pen’s smaller sibling, the Custom 845 Urushi in black with the B nib. Two of the three best Pilot pens ever made. The third one is the Pilot Silvern pens.
    I bought my new Custom Urushi direct from Japan for $875 (incl. shipping). So, it’s a better deal than you get in Europe and the U.S. The pricing is particularly outrageous in the U.S.
    I only wish that the whole pen was urushi over ebonite. It’s a bit of a let down to have the section, feed and finials made of plastic. And the Con-70 seems to trap a lot of air bubbles when pump drawing to fill. I now syringe fill the converter that reduces the air bubbles by a lot.
    As great as the Custom Urushi and its gorgeous nib is, I have to say I still prefer the Sailor KoP nib even more.
    Good review of a great pen.

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We’ve followed the recommended EU pricing guide with pilot and namiki and this is how they come here. I don’t have a huge problem with having some plastic here and there but I can understand other users having this problem, that con70 is something that it’s hard to go over :)) even for me.

    • @atbossgrim
      @atbossgrim 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Finials and sections made from ebonite also. Rub them or use some Tooth paste to see its smells.

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@atbossgrim You’re quite wrong. Even Pilot doesn’t claim that the section and finals are ebonite. Because they are, in fact, advertised as and are made of resin. I wish it weren’t so.

    • @atbossgrim
      @atbossgrim 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sajjadhusain4146 I understand where the confusion comes from, if you visit their Japanese website you will notice it won’t state resin in any part of it. The only reason it is stated in some materials about resin is actually the internal cap that is installed to prevent ink to dry out and the feed , as any other pilot custom pens really. Also it probably doe not make any sense to fuse plastic and ebonite together economically as it will raise costs. Don’t believe me just rub the finials with your fingers and smell them. Also sometime it’s lost in translation- Japanese calling ebonite as Ebonite resin .

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@atbossgrim Really? It’s the first time I’ve heard anybody anywhere say something like this about the CU pen’s material composition. Your take on this sounds very plausible. I hope it’s really true. But even if ebonite, no urushi on the section. And the feed really ought to have been ebonite. Am I being greedy? For a pen this pricey, I could be forgiven for expecting all of this.

  • @Shak-MD

    Awesome review. A couple of things:
    1. If you take the cartridge out and pump with a bulb syringe too vigorously, you can loose the nib in the sink [almost happened to me]. The nib and feed are super super easy to take out and just flush under the sink.
    And 2: I am a bit disappointed that the pen at this price range, had a plastic section with very ugly molding lines. I wish they had done something to polish it out. And don't get me started on Con70!
    And 3: This definitely is the best nib in Pilot line. I personally think the emperor has not much over this nib.
    I hope you have a great London pen show :)

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the feedback :D
      1. - im pretty sure vigorously must not be an adjective to use when cleaning any pen not only this, and the loose nib can be from even other actions done to or on the pen, ive seen that if the nib is removed multiple times it becomes loose or if its in hot summer weather just as well, or if its cleaned with hot water... it may vary from multiple factors this.
      2. - this is not a decisive factory for many people, it is not a huge price in its range for what you actually get, compare it to pens like a nakaya, where you get a relative small pen, with a nib like size5, but on the con70 ... you are right, is not the best choice
      3. - totally agree :D love it

    I can imagine a pen like Pilot Custom Urushi costing $1,905 in the country of Hungary. The cost of the pen as it currently stands for most people in the US is $1,590/€1,381/£1,186.

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      :D prices are usually dictated by the importer and the approval for the listing price that one seller gets from the distribution center, we follow strict policy guides on pricing that comes directly from Pilot. Just as a side note - example, in Europe the Lamy Safari sells at 18,5 eur no vat and in Asia (China,Japan, etc) it sells for well over 40 eur no vat

  • @muallaemine
    @muallaemine 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great review as always Emy and we'll certainly talk about the nib! Which is gorgeous and buttery smooth and every other good thing about an FP nib... but I'm absolutely not gonna praise that ridiculous con whateverty! Some of the worst converters made! I cannot understand why a brand like Pilot/Namiki can't do better converters. I'll have to say that they are still waaay better then Sailor's though.. and the iroshizuku ink cartridges (finally!!) are great. Anyway; even with that stupid cc, this pen is a fantastic writer as you said. I have both of them and although the only reason I got the black one first some years ago was because the vermillion was almost always out of stock. And I had the vermillion Namiki Yukari Royale and loved it at that point as well. So I got the black. But finally last year, I got the vermillion Custom Urushi. I love both of them but although I love my bright colours, in this particular instance the black is just my fave. Something about the simple elegance of it draws me in. But the writing experience is just something else in both of them (MF and M nibs); and you've actually described it beautifully. I find that Pilot is always shining with it's 18k nibs. Another example would be their Silvern series and the VP line which are superb writers as well. And I love that they are easy to use and clean. At least one of my Custom Urushi pens is almost always inked. Same goes with the Silverns. They are just great writers and beautiful to look at and feel in the hand

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hey there my dear - its been a long time since I didnt catch up with my comments :D
      that converter sure does put the user into a "no look" zone when it comes to the Custom Urushi, I think that for me, the Black one takes it just because it hides the black parts that I think are made in resin and completes the pen - the look is so sleek and stealth yet classic in black with gold trim. Those Silver pens of Pilot will sometime be available with us as well and those look really interesting I have to say that

      @muallaemine 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pen.venture I hope the pen show went great for you! İt's nice to have you back around here though
      Any Pilot with the 18k nibs is always great. Mind you all of their gold nibs are good writers out of the box, but the 18ks are just so smooth and bouncy. The silvern line is also a good balance of the 'new vintage' look if you will; and there are many designs to choose from as well. I'm curious to see which ones you'll get on your store's line up :)

  • @101jp101

    How do you compare the nib and the writing experience with the Namiki emperor?

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      :D thats a tricky one - the Nib on the Namiki is way more stiff, as of wetness I think the Custom Urushi is more wet, as for smoothness - also I have to give it to the pilot custom urushi

    Hi I bought a Gravitas pen recently from your store in Romania. Is the warranty going to be the same as buying from Gravitas directly?

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes - we are authorized retailers of the brand so we work under their guideline of warranty and everything that comes with that

  • @mrmf4712
    @mrmf4712 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I usually very sceptical about worthiness of most of modern pens given their prices, but this one is an exception. May I ask you something? In your review you positioned the nib as being something extraordinary. Then you showed the mediocre line variation and mentioned very modest characteristics - smoothness and wetness. There are tons of nibs out there which are smooth and wet with exactly the same line (or can be made wet and smooth in 10 minutes of tuning). The design on the nib is not unique, there are tons of 2-tone ones. The size is not unique (it is realistically #8 isn't it?) you demonstrated other pens with similar size nibs. So, what exactly makes this nib "special"? It is a little bouncy? But let's be sober here, with gushing pen (scoring 7.5 out of 10 on the wetness scale) you don't wanna press it when writing. Your writing sample did not show any single word where softness would come out and give some style expression to the letter. What exactly makes this nib "special"? ... Regarding the review itself, you made a great job introducing pen! Video is wort watching a few times! But some readers, like me, are filtering out emotional descriptions ("gigantic nib") and zoom into facts.

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      maybe my style is more of a big picture and leaving the special something to be discovered by you when committing to it. The big difference in between myself and possible other channels is that I dont start from a point where im trying to convince the user about making a purchase but actually present all facts and let the viewer decide if its something that is worth to pursue or not. I have under my belt possible over thousands of nibs - tested/used/experienced ... its special in that it offers something unique rather than something comun like a size 6 jowo or bock 14k gold nib that writes nice but I can reach and find it in many pens today. As for this big nib of Pilot, you get it in the CU or Aya - just 2 pens. I cant flex a nib in order to demonstrate how far it goes because I can set a bad example in having someone thats new in this - trying on the personal CU pen and it may result in a hefty damage to the wallet. So ... there is a whole lot going on in my videos and always there is a a reason why something is there or not, after all its my style - thats the whole point, I get to present things as I deem right to do

      Must be a very unlucky dud, skipping does not seem to be mentioned much about this pen. I will say I was at first disappointed when I learned it was C/C a long time ago, but I’ve come around after realizing it’s the go-to filling system for Japanese pens.

    • @pen.venture

      this has to be very very odd and quite rare, everyone seems to find these pens writing perfect out of the box, including the ones we sell... I personally didnt find any misbehaving.
