@@boyscout-p3u That's easy. Look at photos of teens in the 1950s and look at photos of teens today. Born in the early 1940s, I never saw a fat kid. We had one roast leg of lamb on Sundays (family of five) and that roast lasted until dad's lunch on Thursday. He had it daily in his sandwiches. It was also in our Sunday night 'Bubble n Squeak". We all thought we were meat eaters. I remember the bone in our fridge - it was before 'plastic', and the meat shriveled, and dried, black, on its plate.
Blood pressure is something I would love to hear more about. Thank you Dr. McDougall and Mary. I will be joining your program in July and looking forward to meet you and Heather. You are all so great and I am so grateful to have met you and learned from you.
I've had angina since 1993. Family stress, emotions, put my BP up and rarely the angina comes back. I dry leaves from the olive tree by a sunny window for six weeks. Grinding these leaves in a coffee grinder. One teaspoon in beans or potato will lower my BP within three hours. I prefer my BP to be 110/70 and pulse to be 55 bpm. Earlier I spent thousands of dollar buying meds and olive leaf capsules. Now it's all free.
I was a fat vegan until I gave up nuts, nut butters, seeds, olives, avocados, vitamins with oil, Fake meats, tofu, tempeh! & all flour products! Also lost 25 more pounds when I stopped snacking & eating all day long 6-8 times. No more breakfast, eat sweet potatoes/yams for lunch then eat a big dinner & fruit dessert. Intermittent fasting has been wonderful! I am now @ weight loss goal!
Hi me again still fat but no more lol... I know I’m not the only one struggling 😩 started Monday again and lost 2 lbs ;) this time it’s for good!! I’ve had a few wake up calls lately. 😒
Dr. McDougall doesn't suggest counting calories, but knowing what is of high/low calorie density, and eating only the low will get us there without counting calories or portioning. We eat till full and eat only when hungry. Because of this plan, I finally know what that is.
Not following this guy lol. Unless you want to be malnourished. Look at the guy and he not even 75. Stunning indicator of his BS. But he has no diseases and slim because he don't mix macros or over eat. Most important thing ever. Separate your fat from carbs. Your welcome..
I prefer chubby 😉 but for real I am now living the McDougall way at 48 and love it! I’ve been making potatoes and lentil soups for my grandchildren (ages 4 and 6) after school every day, my granddaughter told me that her favorite vegetable is potatoes and she loves it more than candy!
My mother's side of the family all had high blood pressure. My grandmother's doctor told her to cut the salt & she did but she died of complications of a stroke & a fall anyway!
Love the opening where DrM talks about the lack of 'positive' terms for overweight. One time when my mom saw a doctor (and at the time she was fifty pounds overweight) he described her in his write-up as 'well-nourished'. She was very sensitive and often tearful about her weight and was constantly on fad diets so I think he searched for a kindly way of mentioning it.
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. Genesis 1:29
I have a buddy at work that hit me up last night asking what I knew about a plant based diet as we was finishing a keto diet because he began rising his weight again. He said he remembered me talking about it a couple of years ago. I gave him most of what I know and why I am on a whole food plant diet. I think he is going to give it a try. I truly hope so for our planet and his health.
I agree with keeping things simple. Your idea of using last night's left overs for lunch, is outstanding. So good to see mary. She has given me a way to put these foods together in ways I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks to you both for giving me a new life.
Good advice. Except for (1:30:22) the 12 slices of whole grain bread. I bought bread from Coles Supermarket, Frankston, and each slice stunk of flyspray. I ate it plain. If eaten with jam or pickle? The stink of the poisonous flyspray would be missed. Love beans and lentils. Never eaten or cooked those in my whole 80 years. Pressure cooking 45 minutes stops the gas for me. Delicious!
One of the most comprehensive lectures ever! Why doesn't the doctor on My 600 Lb.Life ever try this with his patients? He makes them go low carb which makes them feel depressed and deprived and dooms them to long-term failure.
This talk is another one that is great for going into the science in a way that anyone can understand. Here people can learn about the human body and processes in ways that are recant to everyone because once you have a background you can now evaluate health claims better, especially if also learning how to access and read primary source material. I am glad that science is being brought to people to help them make smart decisions about their own health,
I truly enjoyed this info. Thank you! I am coming upon one year wfpb. 25 lbs down. 59 y.o. Type2. Take hypertension meds. Looking forward to my doctor appointment in one week. Just curious how he will respond. And I do not take the Metformin Rx. I made lifestyle changes.
Well my A1C was 7.8. This was my number a year ago. It was recommended that I take Metformin. However I just don’t want to do it based on what I have learned. I still got those pills. Never swallowed one yet. He checked my eyes, my tongue, my arteries in my neck, etc and it was good. Looks like I am doing ok inspite of a 7.8. I requested a vitamin test. My level is 20. I was told to take a supplement. I have been taking D3, 1000 iu but I see I need more. I will take 2 each day and see how that goes.
I enjoy whole foods cooked in vegetable broth, a potato on the side. A raw salad with Asparagus, peppers, romaine, onions, lots of different vegetables. Flax, chia, hemp seeds and walnuts or pumpkins seeds on top. A bowl of blueberries, raspberries, maybe with rice or faro. Sometimes a little oat milk on top and very little sugar or agave.
That is so true! That these people saying you need oil and fat do not understand basic science or do the reading necessary with primary source materials. They simply have more reading to do and a brush up on science.
This was one of the best presentations I’ve ever seen about calories, evolution, and history! Amazing presentation!!! Thank you Dr. McDougall! The fat you eat IS the fat you wear. From your lips to your hips! Thank you for the FACTS, science, and evidence.
One of the biggest colntradictions in this presentation is the limitation of fruits and overlooking the most obvious and that is the primary food looked at by the earliest humans would have been fruits and berries. That taste bud for sweets is the most powerful for a reason.

I cook for my 85 year old meat loving father since Mom passed away. I love Mary's suggestions of taking a base meal like tacos and making a taco bar. Then your hubby can have his meat and you go for beans, or a pasta bar, pizza, etc. I cook out the meat in advance, portion it into ziplock bags and store it in the freezer. The base of the meal is vegan, then he adds the meat he wants. Mary's mushroom stroganoff is his favorite. I also don't talk about being vegan with him. I noticed over time he adds less meat. I guess that's progress for him.

Hi Chef AJ. This interview was amazing! Maybe you could get Dr. McDougall to discuss a starch plant-based diet for those who have had a small bowel obstruction surgery (myself, it was mechanical, because of adhesions, from previous surgery), and told to eat low to no fiber. There is very little information out there, and no one talks about it. Myself, coming from a high fiber plant-based diet, had to resort to junk processed foods and fresh juices to keep me going. I'm almost 64, alone and on a very low budget. I can't afford a consultation. Plus, my insurance doesn't cover diet related issues, especially not plant-based. Since my surgery and severe diet change, my cholesterol shot up and I gained 15 pounds in a few months. Any written plant-based resources on the subject would help, also. Thank you.
This may sound stupid and generate some disagreement, but I wish the videos were shorter and more to the point. I'm giving the potato diet a go as being over 60 and developing a belly, I want to head off at the pass any heart/cholesterol issues. I've had high cholesterol my whole life. When I was 23 my cholesterol was 224, and that was not really eating much. The only time it was under 200 is when I was pretty much eating vegan and running 28 miles a week. The doctor I had at the time tried to put me on Fosomax and a statin. I dropped him. I tried to follow Michael Greger's plan? and initially felt great. Then after 4 months, I felt awful- I was gaining weight as I kept eating, though not hungry, but felt I needed "something". That didn't disappear until I had a hamburger patty. So there was a deficiency of something. I don't know what to do. I've never been able to eat a lot. Remember Dr. Stillman's water diet? Yep - I was 15 when I started that, as my mother hated ANY fat and that led to anorexia and I was never able to get under 105 lbs. which for my height was okay. Thankfully, I pulled myself out of that. Now that I'm old, anything I eat now goes right to the middle. Wish me luck. Any thoughts are appreciated.
So I've been eating low fat for months and for the first time in my LIFE my HDL is below 50, at 45 it's below where it's considered safe for a postmenopausal female. I work out regularly, lift weights and do cardio. Historically, while including meats, this would put me at around 64 HDL. Not anymore... I sure would like to hear the good Dr. discuss what happens to cholesterol levels when eating like this for a long time...we know he doesn't agree with the system and its parameters but isn't HDL kind of important to keep up? Total cholesterol and LDL can be low, but not that HDL... Now, I know what he'd say..."If you're not eating any fat or cholesterol, why would you need high HDL, anyway?" Uhm, because the body makes its own cholesterol whether we eat it or not. So can we get a fresh video discussing the newest science on cholesterol and what really matters for heart health? There's cutting-edge stuff out there these days.

I was the “fat vegan.” But when I changed to a 90 percent starch diet the weight just started melting off. It was fast and easy.
I am a fat vegan-I’ve done the mcdougall diet before and lost and dammit I refuse to be a fat vegan any longer!!!
@@jgrysiak6566 ... Best post. So wonderful to hear. Inspirational.

I'm loving to eat starches ( beans, rice, corn, potatoes, pasta....). That's real food.
I make these foods different ways & it never gets boring!
I look forward to your lecture on Autoimmune Diseases! Thank you for this lecture and interview Dr & Mrs McDougall!
Agree! How have you been Laura?
A great and a real honest medical practitioner . Keep
Up the great work Dr Mcdougall
Thank you Esther!!! You’re a remarkable role model and inspiration to countless millions across the world!!! Love you so much!!!❤
As someone who’s is a fat vegan, I’m not offended - I’m curious, how I get to be slim vegan? So happy I found this video !
calories calories, calories

That's so awesome hahaha
She's on the right tracks!
Thank you so much for sharing always love listening to Dr John Mc Dougall . Thanks AJ . ❤
Looking forward to the presentation on hypertension. Come back soon! Love these presentations and chats. I learn so much.
My mother's side of the family all had high blood pressure. My grandmother's doctor told her to cut the salt & she did but she died of complications of a stroke & a fall anyway!
I would definitely join you on an adventure trip! I love your work Dr. MCdougall! Thank you Chef AJ for bringing these presentations to us!
Thankyou Chef AJ, Esther, Dr Mcdougall and Mary McDougall- so much information- so appreciate your sharing your stories and knowledge.
I"m glad I listened. It's too bad he felt sad that some woiuldn't listen. Lots did listen and got better.
Just one more huge THANK YOU for one more exceptional presentation!!
I could listen to him all day I'm so healthy and happy and thin thanks to him 5 years now 76 years old and 52 kilos at 5.7
What's your daily diet like?
Beautiful story Esther! Thank you all for this video😊
It occurs to me that Dr. McDougall’s stroke at such a young age is a perfect example of, “What Satan intends for harm, God can turn for great good.“
Anything, and everything is always God. The "Satan' (means stumbling block) is God's tool, it only does what God allows it. It's not evil.
Yes. Curvy is another term these days.
This is phenomenal! Yes! We love Dr.mcdougall!!!!
The greatest of all time, may Dr.Mcdougall rest in peace
Thank you Dr. McDougall and Chef AJ
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.
Genesis 1:29
Truly life saving content. This is so inspirational, thank you all.
Thank you for all you do Dr McDougall.
I agree with keeping things simple. Your idea of using last night's left overs for lunch, is outstanding. So good to see mary. She has given me a way to put these foods together in ways I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks to you both for giving me a new life.
Dr. Mcdougall hates leftovers! Lol
Delicious!
Wow this was a really great program. I really connected with Dr. McDougall's views on the medical industry.
One of the most comprehensive lectures ever! Why doesn't the doctor on My 600 Lb.Life ever try this with his patients? He makes them go low carb which makes them feel depressed and deprived and dooms them to long-term failure.
Yes a shame, love the show though.
Because Keto diet is the western diet standard.
This talk is another one that is great for going into the science in a way that anyone can understand. Here people can learn about the human body and processes in ways that are recant to everyone because once you have a background you can now evaluate health claims better, especially if also learning how to access and read primary source material. I am glad that science is being brought to people to help them make smart decisions about their own health,
Dr. McDougall is a genius. He doesn't beat around the bush
Wow! What a great lecture. I will watch it again and again! Thank you!!!
Please get back to us with his response.
@@Patrick_Ross Will do.
I've been eating a starch-based diet since 2009. One of the best decisions of my life.
I'm soo thankfull you've been doing this for so long
One of the biggest colntradictions in this presentation is the limitation of fruits and overlooking the most obvious and that is the primary food looked at by the earliest humans would have been fruits and berries.
That taste bud for sweets is the most powerful for a reason.
You limit fruit if you are trying to reduce body fat. If you aren’t reducing body fat fruit is fine to eat.
Great but who has over 3 hours?? Cliff notes please
I play it while I clean and cook.

This is a great lecture. I’m new vegan. I love it and feeling better. My problem is my husband won’t give up meats . I have to prepare 2 meals. I meal prep and this helps me tremendously
Dye your hair green and grow your armpit hair and tell him your not cooking sh*t and you'rea feminist now, divorce him and get a bunch of cats and work at Walmart since you're going to need a job.
He has to have a reason to do it! Weight loss, reverse disease, etc.

Calories count? Why should I reduce fat? Or can I eat more calories by eating your way, because carbs are burned? I just want to maintain weight. Greets from Germany where everybody is on keto or lowcarb
i went plant based, oil free last year and lost weight and kept it for a year; until i started eating meat, and adding oil in my food and then I gained ten pounds in a few weeks very quickly. I have to review these videos again to lose the weight gained:) . You are right - eating meat comes with fat and salt:) ,. I am going back to the basics with Dr . John McDougall and Chef AJ:) Thank you!
I did the opposite and lost weight without even changing my daily per steps, 15 pounds actually. I removed processed carbs from my diet (still eat natural carbs), reduced my fruit intake, replaced it with fats like butter and avoadoe (which I know is a fruit) and bam 15 pounds gone. I had that 15 pounds for 10+ years. oh and added eggs but removed all cereals.
Wow! You go girl! Gratitude all the way!!

1. The vinegar used is brewed vinegar, not distilled.
2. The fenugreek parts used were obviously not the seeds, tastes 'orrible, try the leaves, there is plenty Strontium there. Expect to use about half an (English) pound - 227g, if you want a medically relevant dose
I may be trying this out at the allotment bonfire get together this year?
It will be organic, perhaps with wooden swords....

Thank you.
What was the oatmeal Dr McDougall eat? How many kgs bag do they get? I couldnt quite catch it....Thank you
THE STARCH SOLUTION IS A GREAT READ
Dr. McDougall is my diet daddy.
